A Property on Singularities of NURBS Curves

2002

We prove that if a.n open Non Uniform Rational B-Spline curve of order k has a singular point, then it belongs to both curves of order k - 1 defined in the k - 2 step of the de Boor algorithm. Moreover, both curves are tangent at the singular point.

Puuttuvuuden mallintaminen FINRISKI-tutkimuksessa

2017

Approximation properties of higher degree F-transforms based on B-splines

2015

The paper deals with the F-transform with polynomial components with respect to a generalized fuzzy partition given by B-splines. We investigate approximation properties of the inverse F-transform in this case and prove that using B-splines allows us to improve the quality of approximation of smooth functions.

Block Based Deconvolution Algorithm Using Spline Wavelet Packets

2010

This paper presents robust algorithms to deconvolve discrete noised signals and images. The idea behind the algorithms is to solve the convolution equation separately in different frequency bands. This is achieved by using spline wavelet packets. The solutions are derived as linear combinations of the wavelet packets that minimize some parameterized quadratic functionals. Parameters choice, which is performed automatically, determines the trade-off between the solution regularity and the initial data approximation. This technique, which id called Spline Harmonic Analysis, provides a unified computational scheme for the design of orthonormal spline wavelet packets, fast implementation of the…

<title>Human cell texture analysis with quincunx spline wavelet transform</title>

1999

Wavelet transforms are efficient tools for texture analysis and classification. Separable techniques are classically used but present several drawbacks. First, diagonal coefficients contain poor information. Second, the other coefficients contain useful information only if the texture is oriented in the vertical and horizontal directions. So an approach of texture analysis by non-separable transform is proposed. An improved interscale resolution is allowed by the quincunx scheme and this analysis leads to only one detail image where no particular orientation is favored. New orthogonal isotropic filters for the decomposition are constructed by applying McClellan transform on one dimension B-…

Growth curves of sorghum roots via quantile regression with P-splines

2014

Plant roots are a major pool of total carbon in the planet and their dynamics are directly relevant to greenhouse gas balance. Composted wastes are increasingly used in agriculture for environmental and economic reasons and their role as a substitute for traditional fertilizers needs to be tested on all plant components. Here we propose a regression quantile approach based on P-splines to assess, quantify and compare the root growth patterns in two treatment groups respectively undergoing compost and traditional fertilization.

Comparison between splines and fractional polynomials for multivariable model building with continuous covariates: a simulation study with continuous…

2012

In observational studies, many continuous or categorical covariates may be related to an outcome. Various spline-based procedures or the multivariable fractional polynomial (MFP) procedure can be used to identify important variables and functional forms for continuous covariates. This is the main aim of an explanatory model, as opposed to a model only for prediction. The type of analysis often guides the complexity of the final model. Spline-based procedures and MFP have tuning parameters for choosing the required complexity. To compare model selection approaches, we perform a simulation study in the linear regression context based on a data structure intended to reflect realistic biomedica…

Periodic Polynomial Splines

2018

In this chapter, the spaces of periodic polynomial splines and the Spline Harmonic Analysis (SHA) in these spaces are briefly outlined. The stuff of this chapter is used for the design of periodic discrete-time splines and discrete-time-spline-based wavelets and wavelet packets. For a detailed description of the subject we refer to (Averbuch, Neittaanmaki and Zheludev, Spline and Spline Wavelet Methods with Applications to Signal and Image Processing, Springer, Berlin, 2014) [1]. Periodic polynomial splines provide an example of mixed discrete-continuous circular convolution.

Splineapproximationen von beliebigem Defekt zur numerischen Lsung gewhnlicher Differentialgleichungen. Teil III

1980

In the first part [5] a general procedure is presented to obtain polynomial spline approximations of arbitrary defect for the solution of the initial value problem of ordinary differential equations. The essential result is a divergence theorem in dependence of the polynomial degree and the defect of the spline functions. In this second part the convergent procedures are investigated and two convergence theorems are proved. Furthermore the question is treated, whether the convergent procedures are appropriate for the numerical solution of stiff equations. The paper is finished by a convergence theorem for a procedure producing spline approximations in a natural way by the discrete approxima…

Functional linear regression with functional rensponse application to prediction of electricity consumption

2008

Functional linear regression model linking observations of a functional response variable with measurements of an explanatory functional variable is considered. The slope function is estimated with a tensor product splines. Some computational issues are addressed by means of a simulation study. This model serves to analyze a real data set concerning electricity consumption in Sardinia. The interest lies in predicting either incoming weekend or incoming weekdays consumption curves if actual weekdays consumption is known.
