Abstract Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a group of related diseases sharing common etiopathogenic mechanisms and clinical manifestations supported by a complex genetic predisposition. Gut inflammation is present in patients with SpA including patients showing clinically evident intestinal inflammation in the form of Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis and patients who despite the absence of signs and symptoms of intestinal inflammation display a subclinical gut inflammation. A 588-gene microarray analysis of the peripheral blood mononuclear cells of spondyloarthropathy patients

OBJECTIVES: To identify genes which are more highly expressed in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of patients with spondyloarthropathy (SpA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA), in comparison to normal subjects. METHODS: A 588-gene microarray was used as a screening tool to select a panel of such genes from PBMC of these subjects and of normal subjects. No primary association between LMP2 polymorphisms and extraspinal manifestations in spondyloarthropathies

OBJECTIVE—To investigate the potential role of the HLA-linked LMP2 (low molecular weight protein) gene polymorphisms in conjunction with DR4 and DR7 on extraspinal disease manifestations in HLA-B27 positive patients with spondyloarthropathy.
METHODS—172 patients with spondyloarthropathy, 46 healthy, HLA-B27 positive blood donors, and 99 unrelated controls were typed for HLA-class I and II antigens. LMP2 alleles were determined by polymerase chain reaction and subsequent restriction enzyme digestion.

Abstract During a nine-year treatment by haemodialysis for renal failure a now 57-year-old woman developed multiple complications of the skeletal system. Acute calcific periarthritis of the right shoulder became manifest one year after the start of the haemodialysis, followed the next years by progressive arthropathy with subchondral amyloid cysts of both shoulders, effusions in the knee-joint and destructive spondylarthropathy of the middle vertebrae. Emergence of severe spondyloarthropathy-related entheseal pathology following successful vedolizumab therapy for inflammatory bowel disease

Herein we report a series of cases demonstrating the emergence of severe SpA-associated enthesitis/osteitis following successful IBD therapy with VDZ.
