A relational view of start-up firms inside an incubator. The case of the ARCA Consortium
2018
Purpose Analyzing the entrepreneurial ecosystem related to the ARCA consortium, the purpose of this paper is to study the relationships among the start-up firms inside an incubator. Design/methodology/approach Thanks to the adoption of the relationships concentric model and the density concentric model, the paper highlights the role of relational conditions for innovative projects in partnership among the incubated firms. Reflections herein are tested via a qualitative research approach based on a single case study: the ARCA consortium. Findings This research found that about 32 percent of relationships inside the incubator support the emergence of short-term relationships among the incuba…
Innovative strategic relationships among sustainable start-ups
2021
Abstract This short note introduces the Industrial Marketing Management special issue entitled “Innovative strategic relationships among sustainable start-ups”. After reviewing the key concepts and recent studies on the interrelationships between sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship, the seven papers that make up the special issue are placed within a macro-meso-micro framework to analyze how innovation can contribute to the transition toward sustainability. The methodological approaches and results of these seven studies are briefly summarized and their main implications highlighted. To conclude, paths for future research are suggested. These paths provide opportunities to advan…
From equilibrium to steady state: The transient dynamics of colloidal liquids under shear
2008
We investigate stresses and particle motion during the start up of flow in a colloidal dispersion close to arrest into a glassy state. A combination of molecular dynamics simulation, mode coupling theory and confocal microscopy experiment is used to investigate the origins of the widely observed stress overshoot and (previously not reported) super-diffusive motion in the transient dynamics. A link between the macro-rheological stress versus strain curves and the microscopic particle motion is established. Negative correlations in the transient auto-correlation function of the potential stresses are found responsible for both phenomena, and arise even for homogeneous flows and almost Gaussia…
THINKING ABOUT THINKING: START-UP FOR MODERN EDUCATION FOR TOMORROW
2016
Today it is a period of time when serious changes all around us and within us have started. Today we meet not only local small quantitative changes – reforms, there are also some big changes – transformations are coming up. Started in the 16-th century, revolution of Science and Technologies has introduced today new global scale impact on our life - social sciences as well as humanities have started to play a much more important role within sustainable development of our life and education for tomorrow. Thinking as spiritual process – brainwork within human nervous system is managing humans’ particular life activities as well as human’s life as a whole. Thinking about thinking today is beco…
Feasibility of D-D start-up under realistic technological assumptions for EU-DEMO
2021
Abstract One of the main issues in view of the realization of a DEMOnstration fusion reactor is the availability of a sufficient external supply of tritium (T) to start operation. T is an unstable nuclide, which is almost absent in nature and is currently available as by-product in e.g. CANDU, whose operation in the next decades (both in terms of life extension of existing reactors and construction of new ones) is at the moment under debate. During DEMO operation, T will be generated on-site by breeding blanket, employing the neutrons originating from D-T reaction. However, it is considered that a certain initial amount of T is needed to start operation, the so-called start-up inventory. An…
The “Start-up a Business” Strategy in the Succession Process Planning at the Top of Family Firms.
2019
In small family firms, succession to the top is very critical stage of their lives. A high percentage of these firms do not survive their founder. When the successor takes the reins of the company, he has no experience and reputation. For this reason, he very often fails to allow the family firm to survive after its founder. Although many streams of research address succession in family businesses, significant gaps in the literature remain in the field of the strategies that can mitigate the vulnerability of the family firms when the old leader retires and a new leader takes the reins of the company. The underlying argument in this paper is: By starting up one’s own company some years befor…
Supporting start-up business model design through system dynamics modelling
2017
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore how system dynamics (SD) modelling can provide a methodological support to business model (BM) design with the intent to better communicate business strategy and manage performance. Design/methodology/approach After a literature review of the field and an analysis of the strengths and limitations of conventional BM frameworks, the paper illustrates and discusses an approach that combines such a framework with SD modelling. A single-case study design was selected to explore the implications and limitations of using this combined approach to business modelling. Findings The methodological support provided by SD to BM design may effectively impr…
L’art. 39-septies del Decreto “Semplificazioni” 2021 in tema di S.R.L. Start up innovative costituite in forma telematica
2021
The influence of sludge retention time on mixed culture microbial fuel cell start-ups
2017
Abstract In this work, the start-ups of air-cathode microbial fuel cells (MFCs) seeds with conventional activated sludge cultivated at different solid retention times (SRTs) are compared. A clear influence of the SRT of the inoculum was observed, corresponding to an SRT of 10 days to the higher current density exerted, about 0.2 A m −2 . This observation points out that, in this type of electrochemical device, it is recommended to use high SRT seeds. The work also points out that in order to promote an efficient start-up, it is not only necessary to use high SRT seeds, but also to feed a high COD concentration. When feeding 10,000 ppm COD and keeping SRT of 10 d differences of current densi…
