Search for an electric charge of the neutron

The electrical neutrality of the neutron is linked to the electric charge quantization. It is not understood yet if the electric charge is quantized or not. Since the discovery of the neutron, many attempts have been made to measure its electric charge ${q}_{n}$ directly and indirectly. We present a method to search for a possible ${q}_{n}$ by means of an optical setup using ultracold neutrons. In a first run, a statistical sensitivity of $\ensuremath{\delta}{q}_{n}=2.4\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}20}\text{ }\text{ }e/\sqrt{\mathrm{day}}$ is achieved. Stability analysis of an electromagnetically levitated sphere

We present a combined numerical and analytical approach to analyze the static and dynamic stabilities of an electromagnetically levitated spherical body depending on the ac frequency and the configuration of a three-dimensional (3D) coil made of thin winding which is modeled by linear current filaments. First, we calculate numerically the magnetic vector potential in grid points on the surface of the sphere and then use Legendre and fast Fourier transforms to find the expansion of the magnetic field in terms of spherical harmonics. Simulation of forces and 3-D field arising during power autotransformer fault due to electric arc in HV winding

Forces and three-dimensional magnetic fields in high-voltage winding due to an internal short circuit in a power autotransformer are calculated with the computer package OPERA 3D. The considered damage was caused by an electric arc. The materialized deformation of the winding part confirms the simulation results.

The effect of nonequilibrium charge screening in the kinetics of the one-dimensional, diffusion-controlled $A+B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0$ reaction between charged reactants in solids and liquids is studied. The incorrectness of the static, Debye-H\"uckel theory is shown. Our microscopic formalism is based on the Kirkwood superposition approximation for three-particle densities and the self-consistent treatment of the electrostatic interactions defined by the nonuniform spatial distribution of similar and dissimilar reactants treated in terms of the relevant joint correlation functions. Abstract: Observational evidences of erratic 1(st) harmonic pulse phase shifts in accreting millisecond X-ray pulsars pulse phase evolution was reported by several authors. This effect always go together with much more stable 2(nd) harmonics pulse phase delays. Different possible explanations of these phase shifts have been given in literature. But all these interpretations do not explain why the 2(nd) harmonic are more stable than the 1(st) harmonic. Static freezing transition at a finite temperature in a quasi-one-dimensional deuteron glass.

The dipolar freezing process of a quasi-one-dimensional betaine deuteron glass was studied using linear and nonlinear dielectric spectroscopy. The linear response as measured for frequencies $5\mathrm{mHz}l\ensuremath{\nu}l200\mathrm{MHz}$ was analyzed using the recently invented $\ensuremath{\delta}$ plot, providing evidence for a static freezing transition near 30 K. Measurements of the ergodic to nonergodic transition as well as of the incipient divergence of the nonlinear susceptibility yield independent confirmation of this quasistatic freezing transition temperature. The energy distribution of electrons ejected from Mo by He und Ar-ions of 2, 5, 10 and 15 keV has been measured by an electrostatic analyzer of the 127° cylindrical condenser type. The relative number of faster electrons grows with increasing primary energy, but the position of the maximum of the distribution curves (1.9 eV for He and 1.7 eV for Ar) is the same for ion energies of 5, 10 and 15 keV. Only for 2 keV the maximum is shifted slightly towards lower energies.
Polarimetry on dense samples of spin-polarized 3He by magnetostatic detection

Abstract A very sensitive low-field fluxgate magnetometer is used to detect the static magnetic field produced by dense samples of spin-polarized 3He gas contained in spherical glass cells at pressures around several bars. The 3He nuclear polarization can be extracted with high precision ΔP P by utilizing magnetostatic detection in combination with adiabatic fast-passage spin reversal. The polarization losses can be kept well below 0.1% thus making this type of polarimetry almost non-destructive. More simply even, P can be measured with reduced accuracy by the change of field when the cell is removed from the fluxgate. In this case the accuracy is limited to about 10% due to the uncertainti…
