Web Traffic Modeling for E-Commerce Web Server System

2009

The paper concerns a problem of the e-commerce Web server system performance evaluation through simulation experiments, especially a problem of modeling a representative stream of user requests at the input of such system. Motivated by a need of a benchmarking tool for the Business-to-Consumer (B2C) environment we discuss a workload model typical of such Web sites and also a model of a multi-tiered e-commerce Web server system. A simulation tool in which the proposed models have been implemented is briefly talked over and some experimental results on the Web system performance in terms of traditional and business performance measures are presented.

Single-Event Effects in the Peripheral Circuitry of a Commercial Ferroelectric Random-Access Memory

2018

This paper identifies the failure modes of a commercial 130-nm ferroelectric random access memory. The devices were irradiated with heavy-ion and pulsed focused X-ray beams. Various failure modes are observed, which generate characteristic error patterns, affecting isolated bits, words, groups of pages, and sometimes entire regions of the memory array. The underlying mechanisms are discussed. peerReviewed

Fast Secure Routing for Highly Mobile Large-Scale Ad-Hoc Vehicular Networks

2009

In highly mobile large-scale vehicular ad-hoc networks, routing protocols must be fast and efficient in terms of low routing discovery delay and communication overhead to support the applications such as car talk. Such requirement becomes more difficult to achieve when inducing security enhancement to tackle the authentication of routing messages. In this paper, we propose a lightweight (fast) secure routing protocol, Secure Proactive Tree-based Routing (SPTR) to hit these two points. SPTR makes use of the characteristics of VANET networks, that is, the traffic originates from or terminates at the gateway or road side unit. SPRT also takes advantages of certificate-less ID-based cryptograph…

Filtering and emission area identification in the Time Resolved Imaging data

2012

Abstract Time Resolved Imaging (TRI) acquisitions allow precise timing analysis of emission spots. Up to date technologies deeply challenge their isolation by hiding the weak ones, under sizing or over sizing visually detectable emission spots and finally by jeopardizing timing resolution. We report on an algorithm based on 1 and 2D signal processing tools which automates the identification of emission sites and optimizes separation between noise and useful signal, even for weak spots surrounding strong emission areas. The application of the algorithm on several sets of data from different types of devices and their results are also discussed.

The relationship between the Sahelian and previous 2nd Guinean rainy seasons: a monsoon regulation by soil wetness?

2002

The correlation of 0.61 found between observed July–September Sahelian rainfall in year 0 and September–November Guinean rainfall in year - 1, led us to explore the statistical relationships between precipitation, soil moisture and near surface Moist Static Energy (MSE) gradients in West Africa. These analyses were performed over successive 30-year periods and specifically, the most recent period between 1968–1998. It is shown from observations, National Centers for Environmental Predictions and National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR) reanalyses and from the Global Soil Wetness Project (GSWP) database, that wet Sahelian rainy seasons are preceded by abnormally wet soils over th…

Generic nature of long-range repulsion mechanism on a bulk insulator?

2017

Dynamic atomic force microscopy measurements are reported that provide evidence for the presence of long-range repulsion in molecular self-assembly on a bulk insulator surface. We present the structures formed from four different benzoic acid derivatives on the (10.4) cleavage plane of calcite kept in ultra-high vacuum. These molecules have in common that they self-assemble into molecular stripes when deposited onto the surface held at room temperature. For all molecules tested, a detailed analysis of the stripe-to-stripe distance distribution reveals a clear deviation from what would be expected for randomly placed, non-interacting stripes (i.e., geometric distribution). When excluding kin…

Magnetic Control over the Fractal Dimension of Supramolecular Rod Networks

2021

<p>Controlling supramolecular polymerization is of fundamental importance to create advanced materials and devices. Here we show that the thermodynamic equilibrium of Gd3+-bearing supramolecular rod networks is shifted reversibly at room temperature in a static magnetic field of up to 2 T. Our approach opens opportunities to control the structure formation of other supramolecular or coordination polymers that contain paramagnetic ions.</p>

Towards human exploration of space: the THESEUS review series on cardiovascular, respiratory, and renal research priorities

2016

International audience; The THESEUS project (Towards Human Exploration of Space: aEUropean Strategy) was initiated within the seventh FrameworkProgramme by the European Commission. This project aimed toprovide a cross-cutting, life science-based roadmap for Europe’sstrategy towards human exploration of space, especially for deepspace missions and its relevance to applications on Earth. Toaddress these challenges, relevance of space research on thecardiovascular system, the lungs and kidneys, was discussed in anexpert group and its principal conclusions will be presented in thisarticle.

High fat diet rapidly induces brain-plasticity-related transcriptomic signature in hypothalamus: role in energy homeostasis

2010

Poster board E12 (1 page) ; Session 203 - Food intake regulation 3 - Abstract n° 203.1 - Publication ref.: FENS Abstr., vol.5, 203.1, 2010; International audience; We have investigated the early events that are induced by a hypercaloric hyperlipidic diet in mice. The high fat diet rapidly induced metabolic imbalance, as soon as the first day, which is characterized. by a large increase in energy intake and several others metabolic alterations such as. hypercholesterolemia, and glucose intolerance. However, the diet-induced metabolic imbalance was. fully reversed after a week, suggesting that a physiological adaptive response has been then induced,. probably in order to counteract the delete…

Dacarbazine mediate antimelanoma effects via NK cells.

2013

International audience; Melanoma is a highly chemoresistant and metastatic tumor that, in the absence of BRAF mutations, is generally treated with the alkylating agent dacarbazine (DTIC). We discovered that DTIC upregulates the expression of NKG2D ligands on tumor cells, leading to the activation of natural killer (NK) and CD8(+) T cells. These observations underscore the immunogenic properties of DTIC and provide a rationale to combine DTIC with immunotherapeutic agents.
