Neutral one-dimensional metal chains consisting of alternating anionic and cationic rhodium complexes.

2012

The metallophilic interactions were investigated within chains of oppositely charged rhodium carbonyl complexes. The cationic [Rh(CO)(2)(L)](+) (L = 2,2'-bipyridine and 1,10-phenanthroline) and anionic [RhCl(2)(CO)(2)](-) units were self-assembled into one dimensional rhodium chains supported by electrostatic interactions. The array of Rh centers in {[Rh(CO)(2)(2,2'-bpy)][RhCl(2)(CO)(2)]}(n) was found to be nearly linear with a Rh···Rh···Rh angle of 170.927(11)° and Rh···Rh distances of 3.3174(5) Å and 3.4116(5) Å. The crystal structure of {[Rh(CO)(2)(1,10-phen)][RhCl(2)(CO)(2)]} consisted of two sets of crystallographically independent chains with slightly different Rh···Rh···Rh angles (17…

Predator Mixes and the Conspicuousness of Aposematic Signals

2003

Conspicuous warning signals of unprofitable prey are a defense against visually hunting predators. They work because predators learn to associate unprofitability with bright coloration and because strong signals are detectable and memorable. However, many species that can be considered defended are not very conspicuous; they have weak warning signals. This phenomenon has previously been ignored in models and experiments. In addition, there is significant within- and among-species variation among predators in their search behavior, in their visual, cognitive, and learning abilities, and in their resistance to defenses. In this article we explore the effects of variable predators on models th…

Targeting human {gamma}delta} T cells with zoledronate and interleukin-2 for immunotherapy of hormone-refractory prostate cancer.

2007

Abstract The increasing evidence that γδ T cells have potent antitumor activity suggests their value in immunotherapy, particularly in areas of unmet need such as metastatic carcinoma. To this end, we initiated a phase I clinical trial in metastatic hormone-refractory prostate cancer to examine the feasibility and consequences of using the γδ T-cell agonist zoledronate, either alone or in combination with low-dose interleukin 2 (IL-2), to activate peripheral blood γδ cells. Nine patients were enlisted to each arm. Neither treatment showed appreciable toxicity. Most patients were treated with zoledronate + IL-2, but conversely only two treated with zoledronate displayed a significant long-te…

Collision induced fragmentations of multiply charged sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)-sulfosuccinate aggregates in gas phase: neutral loss versus charge sepa…

2016

Abstract Stability and fragmentation patterns of multicharged aggregates of sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)-sulfosuccinate (NaAOT) in gas phase have been investigated by ion mobility mass spectrometry (IM-MS) and tandem mass spectrometry (MS-MS). Positively doubly charged NaAOT aggregates show at low collision energy a preference for the loss of NaAOT molecules, whereas fragmentation through charge separation process is favored at higher collision energy. By increasing the charge state of the aggregates, the fragmentation through charge separation tends to predominate especially at low aggregation number and only charge separation fragmentation is observed for positively quadruply charged species.…

Heavy-Ion Radiation Impact on a 4Mb FRAM under Different Test Conditions

2015

The impact of heavy-ions on commercial Ferroelectric Memories (FRAMs) is analyzed. The influence of different test modes (static and dynamic) on this memory is investigated. Static test results show that the memory is prone to temporary effects occurring in the peripheral circuitry. Dynamic tests results show a high sensitivity of this memory to heavy-ions.

Nonadiabatic transitions between lambda-doubling states in the capture of a diatomic molecule by an ion

2008

The low-energy capture of a dipolar diatomic molecule in an adiabatically isolated electronic state with a good quantum number Hund’s coupling case a by an ion occurs adiabatically with respect to rotational transitions of the diatom. However, the capture dynamics may be nonadiabatic with respect to transitions between the pair of the -doubling states belonging to the same value of the intrinsic angular momentum j. In this work, nonadiabatic transition probabilities are calculated which define the -doubling j-specific capture rate coefficients. It is shown that the transition from linear to quadratic Stark effect in the ion-dipole interaction, which damps the T 1/2 divergence of the captur…

Self-consistent continuum solvation (SCCS): the case of charged systems.

2013

The recently developed self-consistent continuum solvation model (SCCS) [O. Andreussi, I. Dabo, and N. Marzari, J. Chem. Phys. 136, 064102 (2012)] is applied here to charged species in aqueous solutions. Describing ions in solution represents a great challenge because of the large electrostatic interactions between the solute and the solvent. The SCCS model is tested over 106 monocharged species, both cations and anions, and we demonstrate its flexibility, notwithstanding its much reduced set of parameters, to describe charged species in solution. Remarkably low mean absolute errors are obtained with values of 2.27 and 5.54 kcal/mol for cations and anions, respectively. These results are co…

Long-ranged and soft interactions between charged colloidal particles induced by multivalent coions

2015

Forces between charged particles in aqueous solutions containing multivalent coions and monovalent counterions are studied by the colloidal probe technique. Here, the multivalent ions have the same charge as the particles, which must be contrasted to the frequently studied case where multivalent ions have the opposite sign as the substrate. In the present case, the forces remain repulsive and are dominated by the interactions of the double layers. The valence of the multivalent coion is found to have a profound influence on the shape of the force curve. While for monovalent coions the force profile is exponential down to separations of a few nanometers, the interaction is much softer and lo…

Preliminary investigations on indirect competition among Italian employers’ associations, and the relevant effects on collective bargaining

2022

Lua Code: Security Overview and Practical Approaches to Static Analysis

2017

Lua is an interpreted, cross-platform, embeddable, performant and low-footprint language. Lua's popularity is on the rise in the last couple of years. Simple design and efficient usage of resources combined with its performance make it attractive for production web applications even to big organizations such as Wikipedia, CloudFlare and GitHub. In addition to this, Lua is one of the preferred choices for programming embedded and IoT devices. This context allows to assume a large and growing Lua codebase yet to be assessed. This growing Lua codebase could be potentially driving production servers and extremely large number of devices, some perhaps with mission-critical function for example i…
