2-exo,5-endo,8,8,10-Pentachlorobornane

2008

The title compound, C(10)H(13)Cl(5), is a polychlorinated monoterpene and a Toxaphene congener. This compound is also the only penta-chlorinated derivative of camphene formed via ionic chlorination. Previously, the title compound was thought to be 2-exo,5-endo,9,9,10-penta-chloro-bornane, but X-ray structural analysis showed it to have a different structure and rather to be 2-exo,5-endo,8,8,10-penta-chloro-bornane. The title compound shows static disorder and almost half the molecule was divided in two partitions with an occupancy ratio of 0.575 (major) to 0.425 (minor). The repulsive close contacts of Cl atoms could possibly be the cause for this disorder.

Interaction of Nanometric Clay Platelets

2008

International audience; The free energy of interaction between two nanometric clay platelets immersed in an electrolyte solution has been calculated using Monte Carlo simulations as well as direct integration of the configurational integral. Each platelet has been modeled as a collection of charged spheres carrying a unit chargethe face of a platelet contains negative charges, and the edge, positive charges. The calculations predict that a configuration of “overlapping coins” is the global free energy minimum at intermediate salt concentrations (10−100 mM). A second weaker minimum, corresponding to the well-known “house of cards” configuration, also appears in this salt interval. At low sal…

A genetic algorithm for scratch removal in static images

2002

This paper investigates the removal of line scratches from old moving pictures and gives a twofold contribution. First, it presents a simple technique for detecting the scratches, based on an analysis of the statistics of the grey levels. Second, the scratch removal is approached as an optimisation problem, which is solved by using a genetic algorithm. The method can be classified as a static approach, as it works independently on each single frame of the sequence. It does not require any a-priori knowledge of the absolute position of the scratch, nor an external starting population of chromosomes for the genetic algorithm. The central column of the line scratch once detected is changed wit…

Analysis of Multipactor Effect in a Partially Dielectric-Loaded Rectangular Waveguide

2019

This paper 1 presents a study of the multipactor 2 effect in a partially dielectric-loaded rectangular waveguide. 3 To obtain the simulations presented in this paper, a detailed 4 analysis of the dynamics of the electron inside this waveguide 5 has been performed, taking into account the radio frequency 6 electromagnetic fields propagating in the waveguide and the dc 7 electric field that appears because of the charging of the dielectric 8 layer. This electrostatic field is obtained by computing the electric 9 potential produced by an arbitrary charge distribution on the 10 dielectric layer in a dielectric-loaded waveguide. The electron 11 trajectory is then found by numerically solving the…

Multipactor Effect in a Parallel-Plate Waveguide Partially Filled With Magnetized Ferrite

2014

The aim of this paper is the analysis of the multipactor effect in a parallel-plate waveguide when a ferrite slab, transversally magnetized by a static magnetic field parallel to the waveguide walls, is present. Employing an in-house developed code, numerical simulations are performed to predict the multipactor radio frequency voltage threshold in such a ferrite-loaded waveguide. Variations of the ferrite magnetization field strength and the ferrite slab height are analyzed. Effective electron trajectories are also shown for a better understanding of the breakdown phenomenon, finding different multipactor regimes.

Multipactor Discharges in Parallel-Plate Dielectric-Loaded Waveguides Including Space-Charge Effects

2008

[EN] The objective of this paper is to study the time evolution of multipactor discharges in a parallel-plate dielectric-loaded waveguide. The electron discharge phenomena investigated in this paper include the effects of space charge, as well as the presence of time varying static fields. In order to perform the simulations presented in this paper, an approach considering simultaneously multiple effective electrons has been used. The results obtained demonstrate that multipactor discharges do turn off by themselves under certain circumstances when they occur in such dielectric-loaded structures.

Time evolution of an electron discharge in a parallel-plate dielectric-loaded waveguide

2006

The objective of this letter is to study the time evolution of a multipactor discharge in a simple dielectric waveguide structure. In particular, the investigation is performed on the case of a parallel-plate waveguide structure partially filled with a dielectric layer. The main consequence of the specific case studied in this letter is the fact that the dielectric layer charges negatively, allowing a negative static field to build up. This dc field eventually leads to a single-surface multipactor in the metallic surface before finally turning off the electron discharge.

Acute effects of static and dynamic stretching on the neuromuscular system

2019

Stretching is traditionally incorporated into pre-exercise routines in health, rehabilitation and sporting environments to condition the neuromuscular system for exercise. While a large body of evidence reported that stretching may acutely impair the subsequent muscular performance, some conflicting results highlight possible mitigating factors of neuromuscular responses variability. Because the limited data available do not present a clear consensus, the aim of this thesis was to investigate the effects of different factors on neuromuscular responses to stretch: the muscle group, the stretch duration and modality. By means of four studies, it has been shown that static stretching may alter…

Lipid nanocarriers containing esters prodrugs of Flurbiprofen. Preparation, physical-chemical characterization and biological studies.

2013

In this paper, the preparation, chemical-physical, technological and in vitro characterization of nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) carrying R-flurbiprofen ester prodrugs, were analyzed for a potential pharmaceutical application. R-flurbiprofen was chosen as a model drug because it has been found to play an effective role in counteracting secretases involved in neurodegenerative diseases, although it does not cross the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB). In this study, two R-flurbiprofen ester prodrugs (ethyl and hexyl) were successfully synthesized and entrapped into non-pegylated and pegylated NLC. The obtained systems showed average diameters in the colloidal size range, negative zeta potential…
