Stepmothers in narratives : negotiations on relatedness

This study contributes to the existing stepmother research by focusing on interaction as an aspect of stepmother identity construction. Accordingly, identity is seen as negotiated through interaction with other family members. A narrative approach applied to 58 stories written by Finnish stepmothers yielded three identity types: identity restricted by a biological mother, stepmother-centred identity, and team parenthood identity. The most dominant feature, common to all the stories, was that stepmothers perceived themselves primarily in relation to the children’s biological mothers, a stance that often led them to feel threatened. Motorisen oppimisen vaikeudella, kuten kehityksellisellä koordinaatiohäiriöllä (DCD), tarkoitetaan huomattavaa vaikeutta oppia uusia motorisia taitoja ja soveltaa jo opittuja taitoja uusiin tilanteisiin. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli kehittää opettajien käyttöön havainnointityökalu, joka auttaa tunnistamaan motorisen oppimisen vaikeuden esi- ja alkuopetusikäisillä lapsilla. Cautionary note on the two-step transformation to normality

Templeton and Burney (2017) proposed a two-step normality transformation as a remedy for non-normally distributed data, which are commonly found in AIS research. We argue that, rather than transforming the data toward normality, researchers should first seek to analyze and understand the sources of non-normality. Using simulated datasets, we demonstrate three sources of non-normality and their consequences for regression estimation. We then demonstrate that the two-step transformation cannot solve any of these problems and that each source of non-normality can be handled with alternative, existing techniques. Six- and seven-membered benzo-fused cyclic homoallylic alcohols can be readily synthesized by a tandem chiral BrOnsted acid-catalyzed allyl (crotyl)boration/ring closing metathesis sequence performed under orthogonal relay catalysis conditions. Excellent enantio- and diastereoselectivities are obtained in most of the cases. In addition, the parent crotylboration/RCM process is also described. The required substrates, ortho-vinylbenzaldehydes, are readily available in one step from commercially available starting materials.
