The fingerprint of Te-rich and stoichiometric Bi2Te3 nanowires by Raman spectroscopy

We unambiguously show that the signature of Te-rich bismuth telluride is the appearance of three new peaks in the Raman spectra of Bi2Te3, located at 88, 117 and 137 cm−1 . For this purpose, we have grown stoichiometric Bi2Te3 nanowires as well as Te-rich nanowires. The absence of these peaks in stoichiometric nanowires, even in those with the smallest diameter, shows that they are not related to confinement effects or the lack of inversion symmetry, as stated in the literature, but to the existence of Te clusters. Abstract The influence of catalyst pre-treatment temperature (650 and 750 °C) and oxygen concentration ( λ = 8 and 1) on the light-off temperature of methane combustion has been investigated over two composite oxides, Co 3 O 4 /CeO 2 and Co 3 O 4 /CeO 2 –ZrO 2 containing 30 wt.% of Co 3 O 4 . The catalytic materials prepared by the co-precipitation method were calcined at 650 °C for 5 h (fresh samples); a portion of them was further treated at 750 °C for 7 h, in a furnace in static air (aged samples). Novel biosensoric devices based on molecular protein hetero-multilayer films

We have developed a novel concept for the modification of technical surfaces with molecularly well-organized layers of bioorganic components. A molecular construction set has been used to implement this concept which is based on molecularly stratified polyelectrolyte films as a structure decoupling protein layers from solid substrates. Utilizing this technology, one can start from a number of different substrates to obtain the same surface structures, on which protein hetero-multilayer films can be prepared to functionalize the interface for (potentially very different) purposes. Relaxation of electronic excitations in LiNbO3crystals

Transient absorption both in stoichiometric and Mg doped congruent LiNbO was observed after pulsed electron beam excitation. The luminescence spectra and decay kinetics in these materials show different excitonic relaxation possibilities. The dependence on sample stoichiometry is also discussed.
Structural evolution of CO2 filled pure silica LTA zeolite under high-pressure high-temperature conditions

[EN] The crystal structure of CO2-filled pure-SiO2 LTA zeolite has been studied at high pressures and temperatures using synchrotron-based X-ray powder diffraction. Its structure consists of 13 CO2 guest molecules, 12 of them accommodated in the large alpha-cages and one in the beta-cages, giving a SiO2/CO2 stoichiometric ratio smaller than 2. The structure remains stable under pressure up to 20 GPa with a slight pressure-dependent rhombohedral distortion, indicating that pressure-induced amorphization is prevented by the insertion of guest species in this open framework. Influence of iron non-stoichiometry on spinel zinc ferrite gas sensing properties

Abstract It is demonstrated for the first time that the gas sensing properties of a spinel ferrite complex metal oxide semiconductor can be improved by controlling iron stoichiometry. Conductivity and sensitivity was analyzed for ZnFe2+zO4± spinel type ferrite with z from −0.01 to 0.15. By increasing iron content from z = −0.01 to z = 0.1, sensitivity increases up to 3 times but for samples with z > 0.1 sensitivity drops. It was observed from impedance spectroscopy measurements that resistance decreases with an increase of the iron content. Cobalt aluminate spinel-mullite composites synthesized by sol-gel method

Abstract CoAl 2 O 4 spinel-mullite composites were prepared by double substitution of Al by Ti and Ni in stoichiometric 3:2 mullite. Gels with compositions 3(Al 2 − 2 x Co x Ti x O 3 )·2SiO 2 (x = 0.025, 0.05 and 0.2) and 3(Al 2 − 2 x M x O 3 )·2SiO 2 (x = 0.05; M = Co 2+ or Ti 4+ ) were synthesized by sol-gel techniques. The structure of the gels was investigated by infra-red spectroscopy. Heating gels at 750 °C produced an amorphous silicoaluminate network. The reaction sequence was investigated by differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. Pulsed Direct liquid Injection ALD of TiO2 Films Using Titanium Tetraisopropoxide Precursor

Abstract TiO 2 thin films are grown by pulsed direct liquid injection atomic layer deposition with rapid thermal heating using titanium tetraisopropoxide and water vapor as precursors. The ALD growth rate is constant in the saturation zone range 35-47 ms at the temperature deposition of 280 °C. The TiO 2 growth rate of 0.018 nm/cycle was achieved in a self-limited ALD mode. SEM and AFM analysis showed the as-deposited films have a smooth surface with a low roughness. XPS analysis exhibited the stoichiometry of TiO 2 in the homogenous depth composition.
Luminescence of ferroelectric crystals: LiNbO3and KNbO3

Abstract The thermostimulated luminescence and time-resolved luminescence of LiNbO3 (congruent, stoichiometric, Eu−, Mn−, or Cr−doped) and KNbO3 crystals (undoped, Fe−, or Mn− doped) excited by X-ray, pulsed nitrogen laser or pulsed electron beam were studied. The luminescence decay times of niobium-oxygen groups (regular or perturbed by defect or impurity) were obtained. It is shown that the energy transfer from bulk to the activator in LiNbO3 is not effective during the electron-hole recombination process.
