Background—The incidence of colorectal cancer is increasing among elderly people, where postoperative complications are frequent. Methods—We evaluated postoperative physical and quality of life changes in elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer. A prospective cohort study was performed in 31 colorectal cancer patients ≥60 years who were scheduled for laparoscopic surgery due to colorectal cancer. Removal of silicon from CFB-derived fly ash leachate in the context of phosphorus recovery

High concentrations of dissolved silica in the acid leachate impose two major challenges on precipitation based recovery of phosphorus (P). Firstly, co-precipitation of colloidal silica in the acidic regimes decreases the purity and value of precipitated P-products. In addition, silica scaling on internal surfaces of equipment is also a problematic issue in industrial operations. Therefore, removal of dissolved silica prior to P-recovery process minimizes the risks of Si-contamination in P-products and Si-scaling. Structural and electronic elucidation of a N-heterocyclic silylene vanadocene adduct

The solid and solution state structure of the vanadium(II) N‐ heterocyclic silylene (NHSi) complex, [(SiIPr)V(Cp)2] (1) is reported ( SiIPr: 1,3‐bis(2,6‐diisopropylphenyl)‐1,3‐diaza‐2‐silacyclopent‐4‐ en‐2‐ylidene). The electronic structure of 1 is probed using combination of magnetic measurements, EPR spectroscopy and computational studies. The V–Si bond strength and complex forming mechanism between vanadocene and NHSi ligand is elucidated using computational methods. peerReviewed

Vispārīgā stresa paradigma paredz, ka plēsonības izraisīts stress ietekmē upuru vielmaiņu, to ķermenim liekot noārdīt enerģētiskās rezerves, kas noved pie pastiprinātas slāpekļa savienojumu izdalīšanas vidē. Darbā novērtēta plēsēja smaržas un mehāniskā kairinājuma ietekme kāpura stadijā uz augļu mušu imago fenotipu. Noskaidrots, ka plēsēja smaržas izraisīts stress samazina mušu ķermeņa masu, palielina slāpekļa koncentrāciju un samazina oglekļa un slāpekļa koncentrāciju attiecību. Līdzīgas fenotipa izmaiņas iepriekš novērotas audzējot kāpurus kopā ar dzīvu zirnekli un liecina, ka kāpuru ožai plēsēja atpazīšanā ir būtiskāka nozīme nekā citām maņām. Pneumococcal community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a leading cause of mortality. Following the introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) in children, a decrease in the burden of the disease was reported. In parallel, an increase in non-vaccine serotypes was also noted. The objective of this study was to assess the current serotype-specific epidemiology of pneumococci among Italian older adults hospitalized for CAP. Bakalaura darbā tika noskaidrots, vai pastāv statistiski nozīmīgas saistības starp policistu darba stresu un pāru attiecību kvalitāti. Pētījumā piedalījās (N=52) policijas darbinieki vecumā no 25-60 (M=41), (SD=8,90). Tika papildus ievākti demogrāfiskie dati, grupējot pēc dzimuma, izglītības līmeņa un attiecību statusa. Ar vidējo izglītību bija (N=17) 32,7% un ar augstāko izglītību (N=35) 67,3% respondenti. Pētījumā piedalījās vīrieši (N=24) 46,2% un sievietes (N=28) 53,8%. Pēc attiecību statusa – precējušies (N=32) 61,5%, dzīvo kopā ar partneri (N=20) 38,5%.
