PURPOSE To evaluate the question whether lattice corneal dystrophy type 1 (LCD1) is of epithelial or stromal origin. METHODS The landmark of advanced LCD1 shows central superficial haze and paracentral stromal lattice lines. In 16 eyes of 8 affected individuals of 2 families, a penetrating keratoplasty was performed. The follow-up was 8 to 16 years after penetrating keratoplasty. Slit-lamp documentation of the patients was evaluated in direct and indirect illumination with dilated pupil to assess the horizontal and vertical pattern of new deposits on the corneal graft. Robotic Versus Laparoscopic Gastric Resection for Primary Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors5 cm: A Size-Matched and Location-Matched Comparison.

This study compared robotic (RR) and laparoscopic resection (LR) for primary gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) of the stomach >5 cm. Twelve consecutive patients who underwent RR from 2012 to 2015 were matched for tumor size and location with 24 patients who underwent LR from 2000 to 2012. The median tumor size was 7.1 cm (range, 5.5 to 11.5). GISTs were resected by wedge resection (91.7%) or distal gastrectomy. The median RR operative time was longer than that of LR (162.5 vs. 130 min, respectively; P=0.004). Only 1 LR patient required conversion. In this study, we report about a patient with extra-uterine endometriosis (EM) in the abdominal wall muscle with evident metaplasia based on the abundant alpha smooth muscle actin (ASMA)-expressing myofibroblasts. Laparotomy excision of the abdominal wall EM was done following ultrasonographic evidence of a hypodense swelling in the right rectus abdominis, which was confirmed by MRI. Immunohistochemistry staining for ASMA and collagen I was done, with the results confirming that endometriotic stromal cells expressed both.
