Victimization, loneliness, overt and relational violence at the school from a gender perspective

2015

This ex post facto study analyzes both the direct relationships between victimization and overt and relational violent behavior of students adolescents as the indirect relationships between these variables through the classroom environment, the loneliness, the nonconformist ideal reputation and transgression of social norms. The sample consisted of 1,795 adolescents (48% females) aged 11 to 18 years (M = 14.2, SD = 1.68). We used a structural equation model to analyze the effect of classroom environment and victimization in violent manifest and relational behavior. The results found that a direct positive relationship between victimization and relational violent behavior and a direct negati…

Evaluating Assessment. Validation with PLS-SEM of ATAE Scale for the Analysis of Assessment Tasks

2020

One of the essential functions of university teachers lies in the decision-making process regarding the various components included in assessment process design, where the quality of assessment tasks is a key aspect. This study presents both validation of an instrument for students to evaluate the assessment tasks and the model that upholds the relationships between constructs that characterise the assessment tasks. Working from a review of the literature, a theoretical model has been devised featuring the characteristics of the assessment tasks and the relationships between them. The Analysis of the Assessment and Learning Tasks questionnaire (ATAE) has been designed to check them, based o…

Motivational configurations of cultural intelligence, social integration, and performance in global virtual teams

2021

Abstract Global virtual teams (GVTs), electronically connected workgroups of geographically dispersed team members in multinational settings, may suffer from less social integration. However, they may also benefit from an increased ability to process information due to a richer portfolio of ideas and problem-solving approaches that the team’s diversity provides. We propose that the cultural intelligence (CQ) of team members contributes positively to social integration in GVTs and improves performance. Using data from 263 GVTs, we utilized both structural equation modeling and necessary condition analyses to explore the associations between motivational CQ and a team’s social integration and…

Mindful Attention Awareness in Spanish Palliative Care Professionals

2017

Abstract. Mindfulness is conceived as a state in which the individual pays full attention to everything that is happening around him or her. The Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) is the most popular instrument for assessing mindfulness. Studies on its structure have shown some conflicting results. This study aims to offer new evidence on the dimensionality and reliability of the MAAS, handling both SEM and IRT procedures, in palliative professionals. The sample was composed of 385 professionals from a national online survey. First, two Confirmatory Factor Analyses (CFAs) were specified, estimated, and tested, with one- and two-factor structures, respectively. Second, the Graded Resp…

Victimization at school: relationship of parenting and functional-dysfunctional developmental variables

2015

Adaptation and Psychometric Properties of the Scale of Positive and Negative Experience (SPANE) in the General Colombian Population

2021

(1) Background: Diener’s Scale of Positive and Negative Experiences (SPANE) assesses the presence and intensity of positive and negative affects, since these are considered basic aspects of the study of well-being. This article studies its psychometric properties in the general Colombian population. (2) We conducted a cross-sectional study of a sample of 1255 Colombians and we used structural equation modeling to confirm the bifactor structure. Additionally, we studied invariance by gender, and convergent and concurrent validity. (3) We found acceptable fit indicators for the bifactor model (CFI = 0.889, RMSEA = 0.046, SRMR = 0.059) as well as for the convergent (CFI = 0.909, RMSEA = 0.050,…

Performance status and depressive symptoms as predictors of quality of life in cancer patients. A structural equation modeling analysis

2015

Objective: This study aimed to examine whether depressive symptoms and performance status are independent predictors of both the physical and psychological domains of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in cancer patients. Methods: A sample of 4020 cancer patients (mean age 58 years, 51% women) was evaluated. Depressive symptoms were measured with the patient health questionnaire and HRQoL with the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer quality of life questionnaire core 30. The impact of the illness on everyday activities was assessed with physician ratings of both the Karnofsky performance status and the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status. The sim…

Using a Multidimensional Measure of Resilience to Explain Life Satisfaction and Academic Achievement of Adults With Reading Difficulties.

2014

We assessed the impact of intrapersonal and interpersonal resilience, persistence, and number of difficulties in addition to reading problems on life satisfaction (general, social, and self) and academic achievement. A total of 120 adults with reading difficulties who either were completing a university degree or were recent graduates responded to an in-lab or online survey. Results indicated that intrapersonal resilience correlated positively with interpersonal resilience and persistence, and both resilience factors were negatively associated with number of difficulties. Using structural equation modeling, intrapersonal resilience explained general satisfaction, intrapersonal resilience a…
