Synthesis of a labile sulfur-centred ligand, [S(H)C(PPh2S)2]−: structural diversity in lithium(i), zinc(ii) and nickel(ii) complexes
2016
A high-yield synthesis of [Li{S(H)C(PPh2S)2}]2 [Li2·(3)2] was developed and this reagent was used in metathesis with ZnCl2 and NiCl2 to produce homoleptic complexes 4 and 5b in 85 and 93% yields, respectively. The solid-state structure of the octahedral complex [Zn{S(H)C(PPh2S)2}2] (4) reveals notable inequivalence between the Zn-S(C) and Zn-S(P) contacts (2.274(1) Å vs. 2.842(1) and 2.884(1) Å, respectively). Two structural isomers of the homoleptic complex [Ni{S(H)C(PPh2S)2}2] were isolated after prolonged crystallization processes. The octahedral green Ni(ii) isomer 5a exhibits the two monoprotonated ligands bonded in a tridentate (S,S',S'') mode to the Ni(ii) centre with three distinctl…
Synthesis and Conformational Properties of Nonsymmetric Pillar[5]arenes and Their Acetonitrile Inclusion Compounds
2010
The catalytic cyclocondensation of 1-butoxy-4-methoxy-2,5-bis(methoxymethyl)benzene (1d) affords a statistical mixture of the regioisomeric pillar[5]arenes 3a–d in high yield. The alkoxy groups are arranged stereoselectively in a mode so that they avoid steric interactions. The rotation of the benzene rings is, at room temperature, fast in terms of the NMR timescale and leads to a de facto Cs symmetry for 3a–c and a C5h symmetry for 3d. All four structural isomers can encapsulate two CH3CN guest molecules. The structure determinations are based on four crystal structure analyses (constitutions) and NMR spectroscopic measurements (conformations).
Synthesis, crystal and molecular-electronic structure, and kinetic investigation of two new sterically hindered isomeric forms of the dimethyl[methyl…
2017
Two new structural isomers – 2,4-dimethyl-5-[methyl(phenylsulfonyl)amino]benzenesulfonyl chloride (1) and 2,4-dimethyl-3-[methyl(phenylsulfonyl)amino]benzenesulfonyl chloride (2) were synthesized by interaction of N-(2,4-dimethylphenyl)-N-methyl-benzenesulfonamide or N-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-N-methylbenzenesulfonamide with chlorosulfonic acid. Both compounds have been structurally characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction at 100 K. The crystals of 1 are triclinic: space group View the MathML source, a = 8.1542(2), b = 11.0728(3), c = 11.2680(3) Å, α = 116.557(3), β = 95.155(2), γ = 108.258(2)°, V = 831.97(4) Å3, Z = 2, R = 0.0251 for 2429 reflections; the crystals of 2 are monoclinic:…
Reactions of 1-isopropyl-3-methyl- and 2,3-dimethylindoles with triethyl orthoformate: New trisindolylmethanes
1987
Indoles 1 and 2 react with triethyl orthoformate under proton–catalyzed conditions to form trisindolylmethanes. The regioisomer distribution of the products is controlled by steric and electronic factors.
A Regio- and Diastereoselective Anodic Aryl-Aryl Coupling in the Biomimetic Total Synthesis of (-)-Thebaine.
2018
The biosynthesis of thebaine is based on the regioselective, intramolecular, oxidative coupling of (R)-reticuline. For decades, chemists have sought to mimic this coupling by using stoichiometric oxidants. However, all approaches to date have suffered from low yields or the formation of undesired regioisomers. Electrochemistry would represent a sustainable alternative in this respect but all attempts to accomplish an electrochemical synthesis of thebaine have failed so far. Herein, a regio- and diastereoselective anodic coupling of 3',4',5'-trioxygenated laudanosine derivatives is presented, which finally enables electrochemical access to (-)-thebaine.
Ab initio molecular dynamics studies of Au38(SR)24 isomers under heating
2019
Despite the great success in achieving monodispersity for a great number of monolayer-protected clusters, to date little is known about the dynamics of these ultra-small metal systems, their decomposition mechanisms, and the energy that separates their structural isomers. In this work, we use density functional theory (DFT) to calculate and compare the ground state energy and the Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamics of two well-known Au 38 (SCH 2 CH 2 Ph) 24 nanocluster isomers. The aim is to shed light on the energy difference between the two clusters isomers and analyze their decomposition mechanisms triggered by high temperatures. The results demonstrate that the energy that separates the…
Selective derivatisation of resorcarenes: 1. The regioselective formation of tetra-benzoxazine derivatives
1997
Abstract Four 5,6-benzo-1,3-oxazine rings are formed by the condensation of resorcarenes with various aliphatic or aromatic primary amines and formaldehyde. From four possible regioisomers only the C4 symmetrical compound is isolated in yields of up to 90%. Semiempirical calculations confirm its relative stability, which is due to the possible formation of four intramolecular OH…O hydrogen bonds. The regioselectivity of the reaction is further established for two examples by single crystal X-ray analysis. A solvent molecule is included in the extended cavity.
Separation of homologues and isomers of linear alkylbenzenesulfonates by capillary electrophoresis with sodium dodecyl sulfate, carboxylic acids and …
2003
The ability of several anionic compounds, including carboxylic and dicarboxylic acids, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and sodium deoxycholate (SDC) and other bile salts, to separate the C(10)-C(13) homologues and the corresponding 20 positional isomers of linear alkylbenzenesulfonates (LAS) by capillary electrophoresis was studied. Up to 19 peaks and a shoulder were observed with a background electrolyte (BGE) containing 10 mM phosphate (pH 6.8), 30% acetonitrile and 40 mM SDS, and 18 peaks were obtained with a BGE containing 10 mM borate (pH 9), 40% ethanol and 40 mM palmitic acid (PA). Resolution increased with the alkyl chain length of the carboxylic acid. Dicarboxylic acids with a short …
Superchiral Pd 3 L 6 Coordination Complex and Its Reversible Structural Conversion into Pd 3 L 3 Cl 6 Metallocycles
2015
Large, non-symmetrical, inherently chiral bispyridyl ligand L derived from natural ursodeoxycholic bile acid was used for square-planar coordination of tetravalent Pd(II) , yielding the cationic single enantiomer of superchiral coordination complex 1 Pd3 L6 containing 60 well-defined chiral centers in its flower-like structure. Complex 1 can readily be transformed by addition of chloride into a smaller enantiomerically pure cyclic trimer 2 Pd3 L3 Cl6 containing 30 chiral centers. This transformation is reversible and can be restored by the addition of silver cations. Furthermore, a mixture of two constitutional isomers of trimer, 2 and 2', and dimer, 3 and 3', can be obtained directly from …
On the regioselectivity of the Friedländer reaction leading to huprines: stereospecific acid-promoted isomerization of syn-huprines to their anti-reg…
2001
Abstract Racemic 12-amino-6,7,8,11-tetrahydro-7,11-methanocycloocta[ b ]quinoline derivatives ( syn -huprines) substituted at the 9-position with a methyl or ethyl group, and both enantioenriched forms of the 9-ethyl derivative, obtained by chiral MPLC resolution of the racemic mixture, were readily converted to the corresponding anti -isomers (huprines) by stereospecific acid-promoted (AlCl 3 or triflic acid) isomerization of the endocyclic CC double bond from the 9(10)- to the 8(9)-position. These results support the hypothesis that the hitherto unseen syn -huprines are also formed under the usual acidic Friedlander reaction conditions used to prepare the known huprines, but rearrange in…
