Analysing students’rating of the SLP Digitally Competent Educators
2021
This article uses student feedback to examine the perspective of participants in the short learning programme (SLP) pilot Digitally Competent Educators (DCE). This SLP was targeted at the continuous professional development and lifelong learning for educators at various levels and several education areas. Student feedback was collected in 2020 using anonymous surveys at the end of each course. This implies that respondents were those participants who completed the course. Feedback, used on further development of the SLP, focused on the content and implementation of the course modules. The SLP followed the design guidelines produced inside the E-SLP project and was based on the Digital Compe…

This study explores music teachers’ beliefs of student agency in whole-class playing and investigates what characterises student agency through teachers’ values, actions and observations within this unique multimodal and -dimensional learning environment. This study provides insights into student agency through the eyes and actions of teachers within the context of whole-class playing and suggests that the enactment of different aspects of student agency is an essential feature necessary for whole-class playing to succeed. peerReviewed
Intra‐individual dynamics of lesson‐specific engagement: Lagged and cross‐lagged effects from one lesson to the next
2020
Background Student engagement denotes active participation in academic work through commitment and involvement in learning tasks (Appleton et al., 2006, Journal of School Psychology, 44, 427). This study looks at questions such as whether engagement experiences in one lesson have an effect on the next lesson. In the present study, process‐oriented analyses were conducted to examine lower secondary school students’ engagement experiences and the stability of those experiences from one lesson to the next. Aims (1) To what extent are students’ engagement experiences, in terms of behavioural and cognitive engagement, emotional engagement, and disaffection, stable from one lesson to the next (au…

2020
Positive thinking constitutes one of the great traditions that lead to the idea of the subject as an entrepreneur of himself and is perhaps one of the best that has successfully condensed cultural, political, social and pedagogical processes linked to reflection on well-being in this historical time. The teaching work is especially moved by the pregnancy of these perspectives that challenge the pedagogical field and the education workers as ?agents of change, or at least one more school available to give the discussion on well-being and happiness (yours and the students?) is celebrated and encouraged. In this article, I intend to understand what is being built as pedagogical discourses abou…
Beliefs about oral corrective feedback in an Argentinean EFL university classroom : their impact on a teacher’s classroom actions
2019
Beliefs about oral corrective feedback (OCF) are essential components in the EFL classroom, especially when learning the speaking skill since teachers have to strike a delicate balance between the provision of OCF without negatively affecting students’ emotions. During the last years, many scholars have devoted great attention to the influence of affective factors in the learning of foreign languages. Among these factors, beliefs held by teachers and students have proved to impact significantly on the processes of teaching and learning a foreign language. The aims of this paper are: to describe the beliefs held by an Argentinian EFL teacher about OCF and to describe how her beliefs might sh…

Finnish upper secondary school students in the vortex of the new syllabus : students’ views about English oral skills teaching and the inclusion of a…
2017
Suullisen kielitaidon testaaminen on ollut monien vuosien ajan tapetilla Suomen lukio-opetuksen parissa. Keskusteluja eri tahojen välillä on käyty tiheään ja varsinkin viime vuosina suullisen kokeen lisääminen osaksi ylioppilastutkintoa on noussut keskeiseksi keskustelunaiheeksi. Tätä prosessia on kiihdyttänyt erityisesti elokuussa 2016 käyttöönotettu uusi opetussuunnitelma, joka vahvasti painottaa tavoitteissaan suullisen kommunikaation taitoja elämän eri osa-alueilla. Suulliselle kielitaidolle on suuri kysyntä työelämässä ja täten kirjallisten taitojen on tehtävä tilaa suulliselle kielitaidolle. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää oppilaiden näkökulmasta, miten englannin kielen …
To feed back or to feed forward? : Students' experiences of and responses to feedback in a Finnish EFL classroom
2017
Good feedback is a powerful element in learning. Ultimately, however, the impact feedback has on learning depends on how the learner responds to that feedback. So far, foreign or second language studies on feedback have mainly concentrated on different methods of error correction, not on students’ responses to feedback in general. This study aims to find out what students thought of the feedback they had received in their EFL studies. Furthermore, the study seeks to discover students’ different responses to that feedback. The data was gathered using a web-based questionnaire filled out by 140 students. The students, aged 17–19, were all from a single Finnish upper secondary school. The data…
Satysfakcja ze współdziałania szkoły podstawowej z rodziną ucznia ze specjalnymi potrzebami edukacyjnymi w kształceniu inkluzyjnym
2022
Student employment in France: Hindrance rather than help for higher educational success?
2021
International audience; In this study, we examine how student employment impacts higher educational trajectories in France. Focussing on undergraduates’ educational outcomes, we show the consequences of different intensities and levels of recurrence of student employment on perseverance in higher education. We use data from a nationally representative four-year longitudinal survey, descriptive analysis and logistic regression are performed to control for student characteristics. Our results suggest that student employment, especially when intensive and during periods of exams, increases exam failure. When it is recurrent over time, student employment often leads to university dropout. Furth…
