Intralipotherapy, the State of the Art.

2016

Background: Reconstruction intralipotherapy is a term commonly used in the field of aesthetic medicine, above all in Europe, which defines a specific injection technique developed for the treatment of localized fat with substances that provoke the lysis of adipocytes by means of an injection directly into the adipose tissue with a long needle. The aim of this study is to define the technique in detail and everything that is associated with it, on the basis of years of multicenter experience by doctors who perform it. Materials and Methods: From January 2010 to December 2014, 3,080 European physicians were trained in intralipotherapy technique, and approximately 152,500 patients were treated…

Omalizumab as alternative to chronic use of oral corticosteroids in severe asthma.

2019

Systemic/oral corticosteroids (OCS) have been used for decades in the management of acute asthma exacerbations and chronically in patients with uncontrolled severe asthma. However, while OCS are effective at treating acute exacerbations, there is only empirical evidence regarding the efficacy of OCS at reducing the rate of exacerbations. Evidence, although scarce, is suggestive of high exacerbation rates in severe asthma patients even when receiving maintenance treatment with OCS. In addition, use of OCS is associated with undesirable effects. Despite all this, physicians have continued to use OCS for managing severe asthma and acute exacerbation due to the lack of availability of effective…

Spontaneous pneumomediastinum and subcutaneous emphysema as a complication of asthma in children: case report and literature review

2016

Background:Spontaneous pneumomediastinum (SPM) is an uncommon disorder. It is rarely reported in paediatric patients and may be accompanied by subcutaneous emphysema. It is usually benign and self-limiting, with only supportive therapy being needed, but severe cases may require invasive measures. Asthma exacerbations have classically been described as a cause of SPM. However, detailed descriptions in asthmatic children are scarce. We aimed at improving the current understanding of the features of SPM and subcutaneous emphysema, and outcomes, by means of a case report and a systematic review. Methods:For the systematic review a literature search was performed in PubMed to identify reported ca…

The foot fillet flap for ischial pressure sore reconstruction: A new indication

2018

Abstract Introduction The main cause of ischial pressure sores in paraplegic patients is prolonged sitting without pressure relief. These wounds are subject to recurrence and may need repeated reconstruction with local flaps. When all options are exhausted, the total thigh flap is the last resort. Disarticulation of the hip joint impairs stability even when sitting and causes subsequently very high discomfort. In this manuscript, we describe an alternative to the total thigh flap to avoid hip disarticulation: the foot fillet flap. Materials & Methods This study was performed on four patients at the department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery of the Ghent University Hospital, Belgium. Inc…

A primary subcutaneous hydatid cyst in the thigh. A case report

2016

Hydatid disease is a parasitic disease considered endemic in many parts of the world such as South America, Middle East, Africa, Australia and the Mediterranean regions. Liver and lung hydatid disease accounts for 90% of all echinococcal cysts. Primary hydatid disease of subcutaneous sites is rare and the subcutaneous localization of a solitary hydatid cyst accounts for 1.6%. Not enough data exist for this localization, and only many heterogeneous data are described in order to define this rare condition. We present the case of a 68-year-old-woman affected by a mass in upper-medial side of her right thigh with a 12-year-growing history. Anamnestic data were accurately collected. Many differe…

Neue Therapieoption für akute hepatische Porphyrien

2021

Was ist neu?

A 15-Year-Old Boy with Anterior Chest Pain, Progressive Dyspnea, and Subcutaneous Emphysema of the Neck

2009

We describe the case of an adolescent who was admitted to the hospital because of sudden occurrence of chest pain, dyspnea and subcutaneous emphysema. On admission, physical examination revealed subcutaneous crepitations in the superior part of the rib cage, and auscultation of the chest showed widespread wheezing. The radiological assessment confirmed the diagnosis of pneumomediastinum and pneumothorax. A follow-up CT scan performed one week after the admission showed almost complete resolution of the radiological alterations. At the following visits, the patient was asymptomatic, but reported to have suffered from frequent episodes of rhinorrea, sneezing, nasal blockage, and sometimes, ch…

Ex Vivo Tracking of Endogenous CO with a Ruthenium(II) Complex.

2017

[EN] A two-photon fluorescent probe based on a ruthenium(II) vinyl complex is capable of selectively detecting carbon monoxide in cells and ex vivo using mice with a subcutaneous air pouch as a model for inflammation. This probe combines highly selective and sensitive ex vivo detection of endogenous CO in a realistic model with facile, inexpensive synthesis, and displays many advantages over the widely used palladium-based systems.

Safety of sublingual immunotherapy started during the pollen season

2009

Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is safer than subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) and this has lead to the reconsideration of the use of ultra-rush schedules for SLIT. The aim of this study was to assess the safety of ultra-rush SLIT in pollen-allergic children according to different timing of administration in relation to the pollen season. In total, 34 children with pollen-induced rhinitis and 36 with pollen-induced asthma and rhinitis, were enrolled and assigned to three study groups: group 1 (n = 17 patients): conventional pre-seasonal-SLIT treatment; group 2 (n = 23 patients), seasonal SLIT ended before the pollen seasonal peak; group 3 (n = 30 patients), SLIT began after the pollen seaso…

Enfisema subcutáneo durante tratamiento restaurador: caso clínico

2006

Subcutaneous emphysema is a relatively rare complication of dental treatment, although increasingly due to the us…
