Qualitative models of equipment units and their use in automatic HAZOP analysis

Abstract The use of qualitative models in a support system for HAZOP analyses, in connection with an algorithm for finding the causes and the consequences of variable deviations, is described. The models use several representation structures among which mini-trees constitute the most important from the logical-functional point of view. The models are conceived both for continuous and batch plants. For the latter procedures, regulating the use of equipment units are also modelled using similar structures while equipment units are considered in various phases of their functioning. A brief description of the prototype support system, in which the models are implemented, is also given.

Background Acute disease outbreaks such as the COVID-19 pandemic cause a high burden of psychological distress in people worldwide. Interventions to enable people to better cope with such distress should be based on the best available evidence. A multi-objective approach to solid waste management

The issue addressed in this paper consists in the localization and dimensioning of transfer stations, which constitute a necessary intermediate level in the logistic chain of the solid waste stream, from municipalities to the incinerator. Contextually, the determination of the number and type of vehicles involved is carried out in an integrated optimization approach. Abstract We consider multi-criteria group decision-making problems, where the decision makers (DMs) want to identify their most preferred alternative(s) based on uncertain or inaccurate criteria measurements. In many real-life problems the uncertainties may be dependent. Evaluation of the Effects of a Bullying at Work Intervention for Middle Managers.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the effects of a workplace bullying intervention based on the training of middle managers regarding bullying awareness, the consequences of bullying, strategies in conflict resolution and mediation/negotiation abilities. Overall, 142 randomly selected middle managers participated in the study. First, participants completed an information record and two scales assessing bullying strategies, role conflict and role ambiguity. The last two scales were completed again in a second phase three months after the intervention had finished.
