Blue-emitting pyrene-based aggregates.

2015

The self-assembling features and gel formation of two pyrene imidazoles are presented. The supramolecular aggregation of these synthesised molecules results in an unusual blue-monomeric emission, which is rationalized by a combined experimental and theoretical investigation.

Unexpected photochemistry and charge-transfer complexes of [CB(11)H(12)](-) carborane.

2008

Although the [CB(11)H(12)](-) carborane does not exhibit an absorption band in UV, its triplet excited state can be generated upon 308 nm laser excitation; also unexpectedly carborane acts as electron donor forming a charge transfer complex with methylviologen that upon illumination gives rise to viologen radical cation.

Multielectron transfer in a dicopper(II) anthraquinophane.

2013

The new dinuclear copper(II) metallacyclophane with the non-innocent N,N'-1,4-bis(oxamate)-9,10-anthraquinone bridging ligand possesses a dual multielectron redox behavior featuring stepwise one-electron oxidation of the antiferromagnetically coupled Cu(II) ions and two-electron reduction of the anthraquinone spacers in a π-stacked anti conformation.

57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy predicts superstructure for K0.08[Cu(II)(N,N'app)Cl]2[Fe(III)(CN)6].0.92H3O.3H2O.

2007

The compound [Cu(N,N'app)Cl](2)[Fe(CN)(6)].xH(2)O, with N,N'app being bis(N,N'-3-aminopropylpiperazine), was prepared and its structure determined by single crystal X-ray analysis, confirming a ratio of two copper complexes to one iron complex; (57)Fe Mössbauer spectra showed three quadrupole doublets typical of iron(iii) low spin species which call for the presence of a superstructure.

The first metamagnetic one-dimensional molecular material with nickel(ii) and end-to-end azido bridges

2001

A novel single azido bridged one-dimensional Ni(II) chain, which represents the first metamagnetic one-dimensional metal–azido system with only end-to-end azido bridges, has been synthesised and characterised by a low temperature magnetic study. Lloret Pastor, Francisco, Francisco.Lloret@uv.es

Use of ATP bioluminescence for assessing the cleanliness of hospital surfaces: A review of the published literature (1990–2012)

2014

Summary: Hospital cleanliness tends to be considered by patients and the public as an important indicator of the general quality of healthcare. Tests for detecting the presence of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) as a proxy of microbial contamination are increasing in popularity, and several studies have been conducted on this topic in the last few decades. The aim of the present study was to review the published literature on this topic and summarize and discuss the available results. The review focused on relevant English-language articles that were identified through searches of two databases [PubMed and Scopus (1990–2012)] by using the keywords “ATP”, “bioluminescence”, “hospital”, and “sur…

Impervious Surfaces Alter Soil Bacterial Communities in Urban Areas: A Case Study in Beijing, China

2018

The rapid expansion of urbanization has caused land cover change, especially the increasing area of impervious surfaces. Such alterations have significant effects on the soil ecosystem by impeding the exchange of gasses, water, and materials between soil and the atmosphere. It is unclear whether impervious surfaces have any effects on soil bacterial diversity and community composition. In the present study, we conducted an investigation of bacterial communities across five typical land cover types, including impervious surfaces (concrete), permeable pavement (bricks with round holes), shrub coverage (Buxus megistophylla Levl.), lawns (Festuca elata Keng ex E. Alexeev), and roadside trees (S…

Recess photomask contact lithography and the fabrication of coupled silicon photonic and plasmonic waveguide switches

2015

Display Omitted A lithography technique capable of printing submicron-sized features inside deep cavities is presented.A so-called recess photomask adapted to the wafer's topography is employed.Based on a standard mask aligner, Recess Photomask Contact Lithography has moderate cost. Its efficiency for a photonic/plasmonic switch application was demonstrated experimentally. The technique is extensible to any design and to wafers with multiple level recesses. A novel lithographic method is presented, based on the use of a mask aligner in the contact mode with a modified photomask, the so-called recess photomask; its goal is the printing of submicron-sized patterns into deep cavities of a chip, …

Evidence of Magnetoresistance in the Prussian Blue Lattice during a Voltammetric Scan

2008

This manuscript reports evidence of magnetoresistance effects in the Prussian Blue lattice during a voltammetric scan at room temperature. Accordingly, the PB is a well-known semiconductor that becomes surprisingly an almost metallic conductor in the presence of an internal magnetic field induced during the voltammetric scan. This offers appealing perspectives for the control of this interesting phenomenon from electrochemical techniques that could be used for the fabrication of the recent phase-change computational memories, which are electronically configurable. Herein, the PB magnetic properties have been monitored in situ by means of resonating magnetic microsensors based on the shift i…
