The roles for a Lewis base and MgCl2 in third-generation Ziegler-Natta catalysts
1998
Activity of a titanium catalyst supported on a bimetallic magnesium-aluminium system, involving a Lewis base [MgCl2(THF) 2 /Al(C 2 H 5 ) 2 Cl], was studied in ethylene polymerization, and the effect of the catalyst composition on the properties of the final polymer produced was investigated. Analysis and discussion of the findings covering also some part of the kinetic study, resulted in defining the roles for MgCl 2 and a Lewis base in the third-generation Ziegler-Natta catalysts. MgCl 2 forms a bimetallic complex with an organoaluminium compound, which involves also a Lewis base. Its reaction with TiCl 4 yields a very active catalyst wherein the Mg: Ti molar ratio is close to 1. This mean…
Diffusion in concentrated colloidal suspensions and glasses
1998
The well established analogy between colloidal suspensions and atomic fluids has been extended to the glass transition problem in the past few years. Colloids have become the ideal test case for checking glass transition theories; this was due to the possibility of modeling hard spheres with colloidal dispersions. Significant progress has also been made in instrumentation, especially in the development of light-scattering techniques allowing moderately turbid and nonergodic samples to be analyzed. Mode coupling theory has become a paradigm not only for the glass transition, but also for the understanding of dynamics in highly concentrated colloidal dispersions where crystallization is suppr…
Determination of the oxygen transmissibility and permeability of hydrogel contact lenses
1999
To test the validity of the method of stacked hydrogel contact lenses to obtain the oxygen permeability and transmissibility coefficients of the lenses, the coefficients of one low hydration (38% water) and two high hydration (55 and 58% water) hydrogel contact lenses stacked one to five on an oxygen electrode were deter- mined. From the oxygen diffusion through the lenses, the current intensity in the stationary state was determined, and from this the "instrument" the oxygen transmis- sibility was obtained. The permeability coefficients of the lenses, corrected for edge effects, were obtained from the slope of the plot of the reciprocal of the transmissibility coefficients versus the lens …
NO2-controlled cargo delivery from gated silica mesoporous nanoparticles
2017
[EN] Cargo delivery from mesoporous silica nanoparticles loaded with sulforhodamine B and capped with a difluoroboron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY) derivative was triggered by a NO2-induced oxidative process.
Peculiar mechanism of solubilization of a sparingly water soluble drug into polymeric micelles. Kinetic and equilibrium studies.
2012
Complementary kinetic and equilibrium studies on the solubilization process of the sparingly water soluble tamoxifen (TAM) drug in polymeric aqueous solutions have been performed by using the spectrophotometric method. In particular, the amphiphilic copolymers obtained by derivatization of polymeric chain of poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-dl-aspartamide, PHEA, with poly(ethylene glycol)s, PEG (2000 or 5000 Da), and/or hexadecylamine chain, C16, namely PHEA-PEG2000-C16, PHEA-PEG5000-C16, PHEA-C16, have been employed. Preliminary to the kinetic and equilibrium data quantitative treatment, the molar absorption coefficient of TAM in polymeric micelle aqueous solution has been determined. By these studi…
Langmuir−Blodgett Films of Fluorinated Glycolipids and Polymerizable Lipids and Their Phase Separating Behavior
2010
This paper describes the phase separating behavior of Langmuir monolayers from mixtures of different lipids that (i) either carry already a glycopeptide recognition site or can be easily modified to carry one and (ii) polymerizable lipids. To ensure demixing during compression, we used fluorinated lipids for the biological headgroups and hydrocarbon based lipids as polymerizable lipids. As a representative for a lipid monomer, which can be polymerized in the hydrophilic headgroup, a methacrylic monomer was used. As a monomer, which can be polymerized in the hydrophobic tail, a lipid with a diacetylene unit was used (pentacosadiynoic acid, PDA). The fluorinated lipids were on the one hand a …
Polymeric matrix hydrophobicity governs saponin packing-density on nanoparticle surface and the subsequent biological interactions.
2020
Abstract This study investigated the loading behavior of Quillaja saponin as a model surface-active cargo on (NP) nanoparticles prepared with various hydrophobic polymers and using different organic solvents through emulsification/solvent evaporation, and the impact of NP surface hydrophobicity upon the cytotoxic and hemolytic properties of the loaded entity. A superficial monolayered arrangement of saponins on NP was established (R2 > 0.9) for all NP, as the saponin loading values complied with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm over the entire concentration range. Next, based on the measurement of interfacial tension between formulation phases, and the subsequent use of Gibb’s adsorption is…
Coordination polymers undergoing spin crossover and reversible ligand exchange in the solid
2006
Here we report the synthesis and characterisation of a polymer made up of a system of parallel 2-D grids of Fe(II) ions linked by [Au(CN)2]– bridges and its transformation into a new system of three interpenetrated 3-D coordination open frameworks with the NbO topology. Reversibility of this crystal-to-crystal transformation is evidenced by X-ray crystallographic data and from their spin crossover properties. Real Cabezos, Jose Antonio, Jose.A.Real@uv.es
Heptanuclear hydroxo-bridged copper cluster of the dicubane-like type: structural and magnetic characterisations of [Cu7(OH)6Cl2(pn)6(H2O)2](C(CN)3)4…
2002
A new polynuclear copper(II) complex [Cu7(OH)6Cl2- (pn)6(H2O)2](C(CN)3)4Cl2 with hydroxo-bridging ligands has been prepared; the centrosymmetric cluster cation can be described as two Cu4O3Cl distorted cubane units sharing one copper cation. Olive mill wastewaters decontamination based on organo-nano-clay composites
2019
Abstract Green composites for environmental applications were successfully prepared by intercalation of the biosurfactant Quillaja saponin onto montmorillonite mineral clay on varying pH and surfactant/clay ratio. Equilibrium adsorption isotherms were constructed and the system was characterized by performing TGA and XRD analyses. The efficiency of the surfactant-modified clay in the removal of the organic content present in olive mill wastewaters (OMW) was evaluated by means of spectrophotometric measurements. The interest for this cogent issue comes from the consideration that, despite their high pollutant content, OMW can be considered as a potential resource of several organic compounds…
