The effect of detergents on the basement membrane complex of a biologic scaffold material

The basement membrane complex (BMC) is a critical component of the extracellular matrix (ECM) that supports and facilitates the growth of cells. This study investigates four detergents commonly used in the process of tissue decellularization and their effect upon the BMC. The BMC of porcine urinary bladder was subjected to 3% Triton-X 100, 8 mM 3-[(3-cholamidopropyl) dimethylammonio]-1-propanesulfonate (CHAPS), 4% sodium deoxycholate or 1% sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) for 24 h. Carbon monoxide improves cardiac energetics and safeguards the heart during reperfusion after cardiopulmonary bypass in pigs

Ischemia-reperfusion injury, a clinical problem during cardiac surgery, involves worsened adenosine trisphosphate (ATP) generation and damage to the heart. We studied carbon monoxide ( CO) pretreatment, proven valuable in rodents but not previously tested in large animals, for its effects on pig hearts subjected to cardiopulmonary bypass with cardioplegic arrest. Hearts of CO-treated pigs showed significantly higher ATP and phosphocreatine levels, less interstitial edema, and apoptosis of cardiomyocytes and required fewer defibrillations after bypass. Darba mērķis ir noskaidrot, kādas sugas, cik bieži un daudz dabiskos apstākļos barojas ar meža cūku līķiem. Dzīvniekus fiksēja ar divām Spypoint 8MP Game Camera with Wireless Photo Trans up to 250 Feet un sešām Ltl Acorn 6210 MC automātiskajām dzīvnieku fotokamerām divos parauglaukumos – mežā ar kokiem aizklātā vietā un atklātā vietā meža ielokā. Pētījums veikts sadarbībā ar Vides risinājumu institūtu Cēsu novada Vaives pagastā. Darbā dati analizēti laika posmā no 2016. gada augusta līdz 2017. gada martam. The primary aims of the present study are to establish the occurrence of A. alata mesocercariae in naturally infected wild boar in Latvia and to assess the risk for humans to acquire A. alata infection via consumption of wild boar meat. Teschoviruses and sapeloviruses in faecal samples from wild boar in Spain

Teschovirus and Sapelovirus are two genera of the Picornaviridae family, comprising highly variable and heterogeneous enteric viruses, commonly found in faecal samples from domestic pigs. Although both of them are also known to infect wild boar, studies on their presence in these wild suids are scarce. Termiski nepietiekoši apstrādātas meža cūkas gaļas lietošana uzturā ir potenciāls Toxoplasma gondii invāzijas avots cilvēkiem. Zināšanas par T. gondii izplatību un sastopamību meža cūkās, dod iespēju apzināt riskus cilvēku veselībai un izstrādāt profilakses pasākumus stratēģijas. Pētījuma mērķis bija noteikt T. gondii sastopamību meža cūkās Latvijā un sakarības ciešumu starp T. gondii DNS un specifisko pret-T. gondii IgG antivielu klātbūtni meža cūkās. Latvijā dabisko zālāju izplatība ir vērtējama kā ļoti maza, jo tie veido aptuveni 0,7% no valsts kopējās teritorijas. Mūsdienās meža cūku rakumu sastopamība apsaimniekotos un neapsaimniekotos dabiskos zālājos ir viens no aktuāliem jautājumiem dabisko zālāju aizsardzības stāvokļa novērtēšanā, jo meža cūku rakumi ietekmē vairākas zemnieku saimniecības, apgrūtinot apsaimniekotājiem zāles novākšanu un samazinot kvalitāti lopbarībai lauksaimniecības teritorijās.
