Kata Containers: An Emerging Architecture for Enabling MEC Services in Fast and Secure Way
2019
New coming applications will be only possible through Mobile Edge Servers deployed in proximity of the mobile users. Due to the user's mobility and server's workload, service migration will be an integral part of the services. For this reason, a standardized architecture should be designed to accomplish a workload migration in a secure and timely manner. Most research done to date has focused on the use of either virtual machine (VM) or container or a mix of both recently. A final solution might be an architecture only having the advantages of both technologies as the security of the VM and the speed of the containers. Custom solutions, actually, by using both technologies, need continuous …
Breaking layer 2: A new architecture for programmable wireless interfaces
2012
This paper introduces a new architecture for programmable wireless interfaces, aiming at responding to the emerging request of wireless access flexibility and adaptability. Instead of implementing a specific MAC protocol stack, the proposed architecture supports a set of programmable services, devised to customize the wireless access operations according to specific network and application scenarios. The services are composed by means of simpler functions, which in turns work on system primitives (i.e. elementary non-programmable functionalities, natively provided by the system) dealing with the physical transmission and reception of the frames. Our approach significantly differs from softw…
Software-as-a-Service in the Telecommunication Industry: Problems and Opportunities
2010
This paper examines the telecommunication software market and the adoption of topical Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model in this vertical market. The aim of this paper is to estimate which telecommunication software products are likely to be provided as a Service, and to examine the potential factors disallowing SaaS adoption. The set aim is pursued by studying both the supplying software vendors and the communication service providers (CSP) as customers. A set of thematic interviews, software industry statistics and information disclosed by the software vendors are used in the analysis. The results of the analysis reveal challenges in adopting SaaS for telecommunication software as well as…
GUI Usability in Medical Imaging
2009
The diffusion of computer technologies in everyday life has involved the birth of standard methodologies to control their development. Indeed, the purpose of standardization procedures consists of providing rules aimed to control technologies leaving no space for empirical improvisations. In general, medical software manufacturers provide their applications with Graphic User Interfaces (GUI) that are not compliant with any clear and standard usability criterion. The only guideline is the creation of GUIs inherited from the ones adopted on medical consoles because physicians use them routinely. This paper addresses this issue: medical software interfaces should be designed trying to overcome…
Visualization of EDI messages
2003
Multi-organizational EDI message networks are complicated communication environments with various standards and technologies. The role of third party message exchange hubs has become more important and their tasks more difficult. Current development activities for supporting the utilization of XML in electronic commerce focuses on message standardization and specification of common business architectures, processes, and web practices. A need to visualize EDI messages in different contexts to human readers has received insufficient attention in ongoing activities. In this paper we discuss problems and approaches related to the visualization of EDI messages in XML format. An idea of a standar…
Context-aware vehicular cyber-physical systems with cloud support: architecture, challenges, and solutions
2014
[EN] The advances in wireless communication techniques, mobile cloud computing, and context-aware technologies boost a growing interest in the design, development, and deployment of vehicular networks for emerging applications. This leads to an increasing evolutionary tendency to change from vehicular networks toward cloud-assisted context-aware vehicular cyber-physical systems. In this article, we first propose a multi-layered context-aware architecture and introduce two crucial service components, vehicular social networks and context-aware vehicular security. Then we propose an application scenario regarding the context-aware dynamic parking services by illuminating the cloud-assisted ar…
User-Centered Design of a National Medical Registry for Tick-Borne Diseases
2018
Tick-borne diseases are increasing in a global perspective, with Lyme disease and tick-borne encephalitis as the most frequent. The Norwegian National Advisory Unit on Tick-borne Diseases is preparing the development of a national medical registry for clinical follow-up of patients with tick-borne diseases based on the best practice guidelines and for research purposes. This paper presents the methodological approach of a user-centered design process applied in the initial phase of the registry development. A user workshop identified user needs, requirements and proposed a service workflow for the registry operation. As the next step, a simulation of the proposed service workflow was perfor…
Employee-driven digitalization in healthcare: codesigning services that deliver
2020
Abstract The purpose of this article is to explore and conceptualize how Nordic principles of employee participation combined with enterprise social media/web 2.0 could enable co-creation as an input to digital transformation of healthcare services. The question of how to enable effective co-creation is both under-researched and stated as an important enabler of digitalization and service improvements. The article starts by introducing The Nordic Model for employee participation that is proven successful for enhancing working life effectiveness and innovation. We then discuss how these principles of participation can be further enhanced by state-of-the-art web 2.0 technologies for Enterpris…
Integrating Variability Management in Data Center Networks
2017
International audience; Data centers have an important role in supporting cloud computing services (i.e. checking social media, sending emails, video conferencing,..). Hence, data centers topologies design became more important and must be able to respond to ever changing service requirements and application demands. An ultimate challenge in this research is the design of data center network that interconnects the massive number of servers, and provides efficient and fault-tolerant routing algorithm. Several topologies such as DCell, FlatNet and ScalNet have been proposed. However, these topologies generally seek to improve the scalability without taking into consideration the energy usage …
Influence Assessment in Twitter Multi-relational Network
2015
International audience; Influence in Twitter has become recently a hot research topic since this micro-blogging service is widely used to share and disseminate information. Some users are more able than others to influence and persuade peers. Thus, studying most influential users leads to reach a large-scale information diffusion area, something very useful in marketing or political campaigns. In this paper, we propose a new approach for influence assessment on Twitter network, it is based on a modified version of the conjunctive combination rule in belief functions theory in order to combine different influence markers such as retweets, mentions and replies. We experiment the proposed meth…
