Unique direct synthesis of cyanide-bridged Fe2Cu2 molecular squares by destruction of sodium nitroprusside

2009

Abstract The one-pot reaction of copper powder, sodium nitroprusside, ammonium thiocyanate and 2,2′-bipyridine (bpy) in acetonitrile solution at ambient conditions of air and water yields the novel heterometallic [Fe2Cu2(bpy)6(μ-CN)4(NCS)2]2[Fe(CN)5(NO)](NCS)2·5H2O complex 1, which has been structurally and magnetically characterized. The most prominent feature of this complex is the unique tetranuclear Fe 2 II Cu 2 II squares comprised [Cu(bpy)NCS]+ and [Fe(bpy)2]2+ corners with CN edges. The Cu⋯Cu and Fe⋯Fe separations are ∼6.72 and ∼7.73 A, respectively. The variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility study revealed that a very weak antiferromagnetic coupling is active between Cu(II) ce…

Eight-membered heterocycles with two heteroatoms in a 1,3-relationship of interest in medicinal chemistry

2022

This chapter deals with 1,3-diheterocines, eight-membered heterocyclic systems with two heteroatoms, N, O and S, in a 1,3 relationship, exhibiting biological properties and exhaustively covers the literature from 2007 to the end of November 2019. The biological results of 1,3-diazocines, 1,3-oxazocines, 1,3-dioxocins and 1,3-thiazocines, that are the largest class of 1,3-diheterocines, were collected together with the few results available for 1,3-oxathiocin and 1,3-dithiocin derivatives at that time.

Separation of chelating agents as copper complexes by capillary zone electrophoresis using quaternary ammonium bromides as additives in N-methylforma…

2006

This study presents the use of quaternary ammonium bromides as additives in N-methylformamide (NMF) for the separation and quantification of chelating agents as copper complexes by capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE). The new quaternary ammonium bromides were synthesized in our laboratory and used for the first time for CZE applications performed in NMF media. The methods were developed and optimized for determination of six chelating agents (trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid (CDTA), diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), N-(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine-N,N',N'-triacetic acid (HEDTA), nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) and trieth…

Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Magneto‐Structural Correlation of an Unusual Thiocyanato‐Bridged Nickel( II ) Compound, [Ni(μ‐NCS)(dpt)(NCS)] 2 [Ni(…

2003

Reaction of Ni(ClO4)2·6H2O with bis(3-aminopropyl)amine (dpt) and ammonium thiocyanate produces the novel thiocyanato-bridged nickel(II) compound [Ni(μ-NCS)(dpt)(NCS)]2[Ni(μ-NCS)(dpt)(NCS)]4, which has been structurally characterised. The structure determination reveals that there are two different molecules in the crystal lattice; one is dinuclear and other is tetranuclear. Low-temperature magnetic measurements show that there are ferro- as well as antiferromagnetic interactions. The ferromagnetic interaction arises from the dinuclear part and the doubly bridged part of the tetranuclear unit; the antiferromagnetic interaction occurs between singly bridged nickel centres in the tetranuclear…

Combination of phenolic acids and essential oils against Listeria monocytogenes

2015

Abstract Listeria monocytogenes is a psychrotrophic pathogen widely distributed in meat processing plants. Listeriosis presents very low morbidity, but very high mortality rates. Several outbreaks involving this bacterium have been reported due to the consumption of refrigerated meat and dairy products. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the in vitro antimicrobial activity of 10 phenolic acids (PAs) and 4 essential oil compounds (EOCs) as natural alternatives to control L. monocytogenes growth. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of all natural compounds was determined at pH 5, 6 and 7. The 4 most potent PAs (ρ-hydroxybenzoic acid, ferulic acid, o-coumaric acid and sy…

Epidemiologie von Hirntumoren im Kindesalter

2000

The German Childhood Cancer Registry (GCCR) was established in 1980. From 1980 to 1997 4,447 CNS tumours in children below 15 years of age have been reported to the registry. From 1988 to 1997 the average annual incidence was 2.5/100,000 children. This corresponds to 19.2% of the registered diseases. Compared with incidence rates reported from other developed countries one can estimate that there is about 25% underreporting of CNS tumours in the GCCR. This is in contrast to the relatively complete ascertainment of other childhood malignancies (above 95%). Based on 3012 incident cases from 1988 to 1997 the Kaplan-Meier-estimate of 5-year-survival probability is 65% for all CNS tumours and 54…

Marine Isonitriles and Their Related Compounds.

2016

Marine isonitriles represent the largest group of natural products carrying the remarkable isocyanide moiety. Together with marine isothiocyanates and formamides, which originate from the same biosynthetic pathways, they offer diverse biological activities and in spite of their exotic nature they may constitute potential lead structures for pharmaceutical development. Among other biological activities, several marine isonitriles show antimalarial, antitubercular, antifouling and antiplasmodial effects. In contrast to terrestrial isonitriles, which are mostly derived from α-amino acids, the vast majority of marine representatives are of terpenoid origin. An overview of all known marine isoni…

Volatile constituents of the aerial parts of white salsify (Tragopogon porrifolius L., Asteraceae).

2010

Tragopogon porrifolius L. grows as a vegetable in southern Italy and all parts of it are edible. In the present study the volatile components of the aerial part are described. Gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis showed the presence of 38 components in all. On the whole, the volatile fraction was constituted mainly by carbonylic compounds (24.6%), phenols (21.5%) and fatty acids and esters (19.7%). The most abundant compounds were 4-vinyl guaiacol (19.0%), hexadecanoic acid (17.9%), hexahydrofarnesylacetone (15.8%) and hentriacontane (10.7%).
