Tutkimus käsittelee Suomen ja Neuvostoliiton välistä turistimatkailua. Suomi oli neuvostoliittolaisille tärkein turistikohde kapitalististen maiden joukossa ja neuvostoliittolaiset olivat yksi suurimmista matkustajaryhmistä Suomeen kylmän sodan ajanjaksolla. Suomalaiset turistit taas olivat merkittävä matkustajaryhmä Neuvostoliitolle ja varsinkin Itämeren kaupungeille Tallinnalle ja Leningradille. In the mid-19th century, a significant number of persons among the Finnish-speaking rural populace learned to read fluently and write for the first time. One of the first purposes to which Finnish-speakers could put their writing was letters to the press. This paper first provides a brief overview of how rural Finnish-speaking commoners acquired functional literacy. First synthesis of single-“strapped cyclam-porphyrins”

The first synthesis of strapped cyclam porphyrins is described ; these will be studied as dioxygen carriers as well as cytochrome C oxidase models. The original derivatives are characterized by mass spectrometry and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The cofacial conformation of the two different macrocycles is confirmed by 1H NMR data.
Physico-chemical investigation of the state of cyanamide confined in AOT and lecithin reversed micelles

Sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT) and lecithin reversed micelles containing cyanamide have been investigated by small-angle X-ray scattering, FT-IR, and 1H NMR spectroscopy at various cyanamide-to-surfactant molar ratio (X) and at fixed surfactant concentration (0.1 mol kg-1). Experimental data are consistent with a model of cyanamide molecules confined in reversed micelles, quite uniformly distributed among them and mainly located among surfactant headgroups. SAXS data analysis leads also to hypothesize a unidimensional growth of the reversed micelles with increasing the X value. Synthesis and anti-HIV activity of 2,3-diaryl-1,3-thiazolidin-4-(thi)one derivatives.

Several 2,3-diaryl-1,3-thiazolidine-4-thione derivatives and 2,3-diaryl-1,3-thiazolidin-4-ones bearing a methyl group at C-5 position have been synthesized and tested as anti-HIV agents. The results of the in vitro tests showed that some of them proved to be effective inhibitors of HIV-1 replication.

Fusarium head blight (FHB) is one of the most important cereal diseases worldwide, causing yield losses and contamination of harvested products with mycotoxins. Fusarium graminearum is one of the most common FHB-causing species in wheat and barley cropping systems. We assessed the ability of different botanical extracts to suppress essential stages of the fungal life cycle using three strains of F. graminearum (FG0410, FG2113, and FG1145). The botanicals included aqueous extracts from white mustard (Sinapis alba) seed flour (Pure Yellow Mustard [PYM] and Tillecur [Ti]) as well as milled Chinese galls (CG).
