Questo saggio storiografico esamina la storiografia più innovativa sulle letture gendered della costruzione sociale dello spazio urbano nella storia moderna e contemporanea e l’uso della città come risorsa con particolare attenzione alla dimensione sovranazionale, di storia comparata e di connected history e al ruolo attivo dei protagonisti degli insediamenti e degli spostamenti che hanno ridisegnato i concetti di spazio e di confine.

Gli atti del seminario tenutosi nell’aula magna della Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia nell’ormai lontano novembre 2000, che oggi si pubblicano, forse sarebbero scarsamente comprensibili senza l’ampia e articolata introduzione di Fabrizio D’Avenia, il quale, con una analisi paziente e molto ben documentata, è riuscito a ricostruire felicemente il contesto politico e storiografico in cui il dibattito di allora deve necessariamente collocarsi. Questo volumetto raccoglie gli atti di un dibattito svoltosi presso la Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia di Palermo il 29 novembre 2000. Il tema della discussione, “la storia, gli storici”, riguardava i manuali di storia in uso nelle scuole superiori, con l’intervento non solo di professori universitari di storia, ma anche di docenti di alcuni licei palermitani, in un confronto – tanto interessante quanto raro – tra mondo universitario e mondo scolastico. Crossing Boundaries: Bodily Paradigms in Jeanette Winterson’s Fiction 1985-2000

Since the publication of her first novel, Jeanette Winterson has been acclaimed as one of the most promising writers on the English postmodern literary scene. This study takes into consideration seven works, from Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit (1985) to The PowerBook (2000) in which Winterson codifies bodies as culturally constructed signs which can be re-signified and transformed. The strategies she adopts to remodel the body reveal a narrative itinerary that goes from the assertion of the lesbian body of the protagonist in Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit to the virtual bodies of the interactive world in The PowerBook. On the occasion of EDRA50 Brooklyn, held at NYU Tandon School of Engineering and devoted to the topic of “Sustainable Urban Environments: Research, Design and Planning for the Next 50 Years”, it was decided that a collateral program of sustainable art activities could widely enrich the conference impact and scope. Furthermore, it provided an interesting opportunity for conference attendees, mostly involved in the fields of research, education and planning, to discover projects or ideas that spring from creative practice and evaluate emerging trends such as the visual arts devoted to sustainability.
The Graffiti Storyline and Urban Planning : Key Narratives in the Planning, Marketing, and News Texts of Santalahti and Hiedanranta

This article regards urban planning as a form of storytelling and argues that there is significance in whose stories and which storylines are acknowledged to belong to the narrative fabric of a place and how the stories of future districts are communicated to the public through narratives during a planning project. My focus is on the storyline that follows the activity of graffiti culture in the two case areas of Santalahti and Hiedanranta (located in the city of Tampere in Finland) during these areas’ phases of transition created during the redevelopment of former industrial areas into residential districts. This work seeks to alert medical and odontological staff to understanding and using interdisciplinary handling for detecting different pathologies’ common otic symptoms. It offers better tools for this shared symptomatology during therapy’s conservative phase. Tensor tympani muscle physiology and function in the middle ear have been veiled, even when their dysfunction and anatomical relationships may explain a group of confused otic symptoms during conventional clinical evaluation. Middle ear muscles share a common embryological and functional origin with chewing and facial muscles.
