VERTICAL MOTION CHANGES RELATED TO NORTH-EAST BRAZIL RAINFALL VARIABILITY: A GCM SIMULATION

1996

The atmospheric structure over north-east Brazil during anomalous rainfall years is studied in the 11 levels of the outputs of the Laboratoire de Meteorologie Dynamique atmospheric general circulation model (LMD AGCM). Seven 19-year simulations were performed using observed sea-surface temperature (SST) corresponding to the period 1970– 1988. The ensemble mean is calculated for each month of the period, leading to an ensemble-averaged simulation. The simulated March-April rainfall is in good agreement with observations. Correlations of simulated rainfall and three SST indices relative to the equatorial Pacific and northern and southern parts of the Atlantic Ocean exhibit stronger relationsh…

Using the single-ring infiltrometer method to detect temporal changes in surface soil field-saturated hydraulic conductivity

2004

Abstract Determining temporal changes in field-saturated hydraulic conductivity ( K fs ) is important for understanding and modelling hydrological phenomena at the field scale. Little is known about the sensitivity of temporal change estimates to the method used for measuring K fs . The objective of this study was to compare temporal changes in K fs obtained in the surface layer of a clayey soil using two application procedures of the single-ring infiltrometer method. Rings installed permanently at the beginning of a 1.5-year study period (permanent sites, PSs, sample size N =16) and rings installed immediately before conducting the infiltrometer measurement (non-permanent sites, NPSs, N =1…

The Use of Atomic Force Microscopy in Determining the Stiffness and Adhesion Force of Human Dentin After Exposure to Bleaching Agents

2009

Introduction: Oxidant bleaching agents may induce several alterations on mineralized teeth tissues. Our aim is to study,at the ultrastructurallevel, mechanicalmodifications induced on dentin after exposure to different bleaching agents. Methods: Nanoindentation performed with atomic force microscopy was used to measure changes in dentin stiffness as well as the adhesion force between the tip and the tissue both in intertubular and peritubulardentin.Foreachspecimen, dentinlocalization, and bleaching agent, 100 independent nanoindentations were performed. Carbamide peroxide (30%) and hydrogenperoxide(35%) wereusedasbleaching agents. Results: A significant reduction of both stiffness and adhesion…

Endothelialization of chitosan porous conduits via immobilization of a recombinant fibronectin fragment (rhFNIII7–10)

2013

Abstract The present study aimed to develop a pre-endothelialized chitosan (CH) porous hollowed scaffold for application in spinal cord regenerative therapies. CH conduits with different degrees of acetylation (DA; 4% and 15%) were prepared, characterized (microstructure, porosity and water uptake) and functionalized with a recombinant fragment of human fibronectin (rhFNIII 7–10 ). Immobilized rhFNIII 7–10 was characterized in terms of amount ( 125 I-radiolabelling), exposure of cell-binding domains (immunofluorescence) and ability to mediate endothelial cell (EC) adhesion and cytoskeletal rearrangement. Functionalized conduits revealed a linear increase in immobilized rhFNIII 7–10 with rhF…

Ab initio conformational study of 2,2′:5′,2″-terthiophene

1996

Abstract The conformers of 2,2′:5′,2″-terthiophene were determined through ab initio MO full geometry optimization with a 6-31G * basis set. Different minima were found corresponding to twisted anti, anti, syn, anti and syn, syn structures. An estimate of the interconversion rate between conformers was performed.

Measuring hospital service quality: a methodological study

1999

Quality in the service sector has been extensively researched during the last years. The publication of a sequence of measurement tools has allowed homogenizing the study of this issue. The object of the present work is to develop a methodological analysis for the use of the SERVQUAL measure scale in the Spanish public health sector. We analyse the reliability of this measure scale, its dimensionality, using comparison with other studies. Finally we consider the main criticism frequently made in the literature.

A part…

Phylogeography and demographic inference in Nacella (Patinigera) concinna (Strebel, 1908) in the western Antarctic Peninsula

2011

10 pages; International audience; Endemic to Antarctic ecosystems, the limpet Nacella (Patinigera) concinna (Strebel, 1908) is an abundant and dominant marine benthic invertebrate of the intertidal and shallow subtidal zone. In order to examine the phylogeographic pattern and historical demography of the species along the western Antarctic Peninsula, we amplified 663 bp of the mitochondrial DNA cytochrome oxidase subunit I of 161 N. concinna specimens from five localities, as well as two specimens from South Georgia and Sub-Antarctic Marion Island. As two different morphotypes, one characterized by an elevated shell in the intertidal and the other by a flat one in the subtidal, have been re…
