The paper deals with the calculation of the optimal working point of a distribution system, equipped with several distributed generators, able to operate also autonomously, i.e. disconnected from the main grid. When connected to the main grid, it appears in general convenient to assign the slack bus role to the bus that represents such a connection. The problem becomes more complex when maximum power transfer constraints through the connection must be taken into account. Due the fact that the required therapy to treat Ventricular Fibrillation (V F) is aggressive (electric shock), the lack of a proper detection and recovering therapy could cause serious injuries to the patient or trigger a ventricular fibrillation, or even death. This work describes the development of an automatic diagnostic system for the detection of the occurrence of V F in real time by means of the time-frequency representation (T F R) image of the ECG. Current research in prosthetic device design aims to mimic natural movements using a feedback system that connects to the patient's own nerves to control the device. The first step in using neurons to control motion is to make and maintain contact between neurons and the feedback sensors. Therefore, the goal of this project was to determine if changes in electrode resistance could be detected when a neuron extended a neurite to contact a sensor. An analog microelectronics design course at the post-graduate level is described in this paper. In 30 h, students with different engineering background receive a basic but solid formation by implementing a complete microelectronics design flow, following current industry standards. The course deals with fundamental design blocks as well as specific computer aided design tools.
