l'obiettivo della presenti tesi è stato quello di verificare il ruolo della corteccia motoria primaria in un test cognitivo di memorizzazione e riconoscimento di immagini di movimento suddivisi in sequenza. Sono stati utilizzati strumenti di modulazione dell'attività cerebrale quali la TMS ( stimolazione magnetica transcranica) e per la registrazione dei MEP (potenziali evocati motori) e la tDCS (stimolazione cerebrale a corrente diretta) e per la modulazione dell'attività cerebrale durante lo svolgimento del compito cognitivo. Converging evidence from functional imaging and lesion studies suggested that a distributed neural network comprising the hippocampal formation, medial and lateral parietal regions as well as the prefrontal cortex is involved in episodic memory. Some findings suggested that successful memory formation requires the coordinated modulation of neural activity among these different cortical areas. It appears particularly important to understand the functional interactions between these regions during memory processes. Neuroimaging and lesion studies have documented the involvement of the frontal lobes in recognition memory. However, the precise nature of prefrontal contributions to verbal and non verbal memory and to familiarity and recollection processes remains unclear. The aim of the current rTMS study was to investigate for the first time the role of the DLPFC in encoding and retrieval of non verbal and verbal memoranda and its contribution to recollection and familiarity processes. Background: Brief 5Hz repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) trains at 120% of the resting- motorthreshold (RMT) intensity determine in healthy subjects a potentiation of motor evoked potentials (MEPs), likely due to short-term presynaptic plasticity facilitation. We recently showed paradoxical intensity-dependent MEP changes to 5Hz rTMS in migraine with MEP facilitation at 110% and inhibition at 130% RMT.
