Force control and powder dispersibility of spray dried particles for inhalation

2009

This study aims towards a deeper understanding of the correlation between particle morphology, cohesion forces, and aerosol performance of spray dried powders for inhalation. Therefore, forces affecting cohesion and dispersion are consid- ered and some novel contact models are introduced to explain the improved powder dispersibility of corrugated particles. Particles with different degrees of corrugation are prepared by spray drying and characterized. Powder dispersibility is measured by positioning a dry powder inhaler in front of the laser diffraction device. The particle sizes of all powders are in the range of x50 ¼ 2.11 0.15 mm. The ratio of mass specific surface area Sm to volume sp…

Enhanced Role of Transition Metal Ion Catalysis During In-Cloud Oxidation of SO2

2013

Global sulfate production plays a key role in aerosol radiative forcing; more than half of this production occurs in clouds. We found that sulfur dioxide oxidation catalyzed by natural transition metal ions is the dominant in-cloud oxidation pathway. The pathway was observed to occur primarily on coarse mineral dust, so the sulfate produced will have a short lifetime and little direct or indirect climatic effect. Taking this into account will lead to large changes in estimates of the magnitude and spatial distribution of aerosol forcing. Therefore, this oxidation pathway-which is currently included in only one of the 12 major global climate models-will have a significant impact on assessmen…

Jeunesse(s) et transitions vers l'âge adulte : quelles permanences, quelles évolutions depuis 30 ans ? XXIVèmes journées du Longitudinal, Marseille, …

2018

Beyond Biodegradability of Poly(lactic acid): Physical and Chemical Stability in Humid Environments

2017

International audience; Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is the most traded biodegradable and biobased material. It is largely used as ecofriendly substitute of conventional plastics. Nevertheless, one of the main limiting factors is its water sensitivity. PLA reacts with water and is hydrolyzed during time, which determines its performance. Limited information related to the hydrolysis mechanism driven by water in vapor state is available in scientific literature. Literature is mainly focused on the effects of water in liquid state. This lack of information is of significant importance, since PLA interacts with water in both phases. This work was aimed to give a full depiction of the chemical and p…

Shock control bump design optimization on natural laminar aerofoil

2011

The chapter investigates Shock Control Bumps (SCB) on a Natural Laminar Flow (NLF) aerofoil; RAE 5243 for Active Flow Control (AFC). A SCB approach is used to decelerate supersonic flow on the suction/pressure sides of transonic aerofoil that leads delaying shock occurrence or weakening of shock strength. Such an AFC technique reduces significantly the total drag at transonic speeds. This chapter considers the SCB shape design optimisation at two boundary layer transition positions (0 and 45%) using an Euler software coupled with viscous boundary layer effects and robust Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs). The optimisation method is based on a canonical Evolution Strategy (ES) algorithm and inco…

Theozyme for antibody aldolases. Characterization of the transition-state analogueElectronic supplementary information (ESI) available: MP2/6-31G** e…

2003

A theozyme for antibody aldolases has been studied at the MP2/6-31G** computational level. Formation of two cooperative hydrogen-bonds between the acidic hydrogen atoms of the enamine and of a methanol molecule with the oxygen atom of the aldol acceptor markedly favors the C–C bond-formation associated with the aldol reaction. A comparative analysis of the geometry, the charge distribution and the shape of the molecular electrostatic potential of the transition structure (TS) with the covalent adduct, resulting from the reaction of methylamine and the β-diketone used as a hapten allows us to characterize the transition-state analogue (TSA) generated at immunization. This finding allows us t…

Elementary Action Systems

2015

This chapter expounds basic notions. An elementary action system is a triple consisting of the set of states, the transition relation between states, and a family of binary relations defined on the set of states. The elements of this family are called atomic actions. Each pair of states belonging to an atomic action is a possible performance of this action. This purely extensional understanding of atomic actions is close to dynamic logic. Compound actions are defined as sets of finite sequences of atomic actions. Thus compound actions are regarded as languages over the alphabet whose elements are atomic actions. This chapter is concerned with the problem of performability of actions and the…
