Dehydrogenative Anodic C−C Coupling of Phenols Bearing Electron‐Withdrawing Groups

2019

Abstract We herein present a metal‐free, electrosynthetic method that enables the direct dehydrogenative coupling reactions of phenols carrying electron‐withdrawing groups for the first time. The reactions are easy to conduct and scalable, as they are carried out in undivided cells and obviate the necessity for additional supporting electrolyte. As such, this conversion is efficient, practical, and thereby environmentally friendly, as production of waste is minimized. The method features a broad substrate scope, and a variety of functional groups are tolerated, providing easy access to precursors for novel polydentate ligands and even heterocycles such as dibenzofurans.

A reliable and environmentally-friendly liquid-chromatographic method for multi-class determination of fat-soluble UV filters in cosmetic products.

2013

An environmentally-friendly analytical method for the simultaneous determination of 15 fat-soluble ultraviolet (UV) filters currently authorized by the European Union regulation on cosmetic products has been developed. The determination was performed by liquid chromatography with UV spectrophotometric detection. Different parameters, such as type of column, oven temperature, mobile phase composition and flow rate were studied. The best chromatographic separation was obtained under the following conditions: C18 column set at 60°C and gradient ethanol:water (containing 1% formic acid and 20mM of 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin) as mobile phase pumped at 1mL min(-1). 2-Hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodext…

Validated, non-destructive and environmentally friendly determination of cocaine in euro bank notes.

2005

A non-destructive, fast and environmentally friendly procedure has been developed for cocaine determination in euro bank notes. Cocaine was extracted with 15 ml methanol by vortex agitation during 5 min. The extract was evaporated and reconstituted in 0.5 ml methanol. GC-MS-MS analysis was performed using as precursor ion m/z 182.2, with an excitation energy voltage of 1.60 eV, being the product ions measured m/z 150.2 and 82.0. A limit of detection of 0.15 ng per note and a repeatability of 6%, established from the relative standard deviation, of a 1 ng ml(-1) level, were achieved. Recoveries of 101+/-2 and 98+/-3% were obtained for samples spiked with 100 and 10 microg respectively. Resul…

Environmentally friendly analytical chemistry through automation: comparative study of strategies for carbaryl determination with p-aminophenol

1999

Abstract A flow system, based on multicommutation and binary sampling, has been developed for improving the automated spectrophotometric determination of carbaryl with p -aminophenol (PAP) in order to reduce the waste volume and to preserve the maximum analytical performance. The procedure, which was implemented employing a flow network obtained by nesting five, three-way solenoid valves controlled by means of a 386 microcomputer equipped with an electronic interface running software written in quick basic 4.5, provides a limit of detection of 26 μg l −1 , comparable to that obtained using a conventional flow injection (FIA) manifold and lower than that found by sequential injection analysi…

Multicommutation as an environmentally friendly analytical tool in the hydride generation atomic fluorescence determination of tellurium in milk.

2003

The aim of this study is to show the advantages of the emerging multicommutation methodology based on the use of solenoid valves for Te determination in milk by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HG-AFS). The delivery of a series of alternating sequential insertions of small volumes of samples and reagents gives rise to new hydrodynamic processes and exciting analytical potentials by controlling the time of flow through the on/off-switched solenoid valves. This drastically reduces the reagent consumption by a factor of 4 and the generation of effluents (590 mL h(-1) instead of 750 mL h(-1) generated by the continuous-mode measurement) and also provides an improvement in th…

Holomorphic Mappings of Bounded Type on (DF)-Spaces

1992

We study the holomorphic functions of bounded type defined on (DF)-spaces. We prove that they are of uniformly bounded type. The space of all these functions is a Frechet space with its natural topology. Some consequences and related results are obtained.

A Structural Theorem for Metric Space Valued Mappings of Φ-bounded Variation

2009

In this paper we introduce the notion of $\Phi$-bounded variation for metric space valued mappings defined on a subset of the real line. Such a notion generalizes the one for real functions introduced by M. Schramm, and many previous generalized variations. We prove a structural theorem for mappings of $\Phi$-bounded variation. As an application we show that each mapping of $\Phi$-bounded variation defined on a subset of $\mathbb{R}$ possesses a $\Phi$-variation preserving extension to the whole real line.

Berinde mappings in orbitally complete metric spaces

2011

Abstract We give a fixed point theorem for a self-mapping satisfying a general contractive condition of integral type in orbitally complete metric spaces. Some examples are given to illustrate our obtained result.

Voicing the child? A case study in Finnish early childhood education

2013

Contemporary Nordic early childhood education and care takes as its starting point the individual and ‘competent’ child and emphasizes the aim to take account of children’s views. It is also common in educational settings that the child’s views are documented and thus transformed into contexts in which they are discussed between the adults. In light of a case study of 22 parent–teacher meetings in Finnish early childhood education and care the article discusses the position of the child’s voice in this context. The theoretical framework is based on a relational view of childhood and the child’s voice, on theories of face-to-face and institutional interaction and on discursive psychology. T…

Life cycle assessment of low temperature asphalt mixtures for road pavement surfaces: A comparative analysis

2018

The increasing fuel consumption demand, the accelerated pressure imposed by the depletion of 5 scarce raw materials and the urgent environmental protection requirements are forcing the change of 6 pavement industry and academia community’s research endeavors towards the development of low 7 emissions road paving technologies able to significantly reduce mixing and compaction temperature as 8 well as the consumption of virgin raw materials. One set of relatively recent technologies in the field of 9 pavement materials that aims at addressing those concerns are the warm mix asphalt (WMA). In fact, 10 they have the potential to allow the reduction of energy consumption and airborne emissions d…
