Establishment size and task-specific wages: Evidence from historical contract data
2014
This study examines whether task-specific jobs are rewarded differently across establishments of different sizes and whether these rewards vary across distinct technologies. We found that the aggregate premium estimates on the impact of size on wages conceal significant differences between tasks and technologies and that these differences reflect unobserved individual heterogeneity. The role of self-selection of more productive workers into larger establishments is particularly substantial in the case of abstract tasks. peerReviewed
Analysing moral issues in stakeholder relations
2001
The purpose of this paper is to develop a framework for analysing managers’ attitudes toward moral issues in stakeholder relations, and to operationalise the developed framework by defining statements to be used as empirical measures in survey research. The research question, how can moral issues in business be examined with the stakeholder approach, is answered by paying attention to both theoretical and empirical viewpoints. The paper reveals that by analysing a company’s stakeholder relations, we can discover the important moral issues in business. To validate the framework developed and the empirical measures which result, the development process is described in detail. The argument is …
Operation management in reconfigurable manufacturing systems: Reconfiguration for error handling
2006
Abstract Reconfigurable manufacturing systems offer quick adjustment of production capacity and functionality in response to unpredictable market changes as being systems designed at the outset for rapid change in system configuration, its machines and controls. During the production process, out-of-ordinary events occur dynamically and unpredictably both at the system (machine breakdowns, change in job's priorities, etc.) and at the cell level (tool failures, robot collisions, etc.). Such exceptions interrupt the production process by causing errors in the schedule plan (system level) or in the task plan (cell level). Error handling is the policy meant for reacting to errors caused by the …
Social and solidarity economy and the need for its entrepreneuring ecosystem: Current challenges in Brazil
2020
Made available in DSpace on 2020-12-12T02:05:08Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-01-01 This articles purpose is to discuss the state of the art of the constitution of the entrepreneurial ecosystem for SSE and its application in Brazil. One of the major challenges for the creation, continuity and strengthening of Solidarity Economy Enterprises (SEE) is the effective establishment of an entrepreneurial ecosystem for Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE). The construction of the solidary entrepreneurial ecosystem is a complex task, full of challenges, especially when this construction is associated to structural weaknesses inherent to its modus operandi. Case studies of sev…
An intercultural approach to music education: Intercultural proposals for primary education
2011
Mathematical Modeling in SecondaryEducation: A User's Manual
2019
[EN] One of the main problems that arise when implementing a mathematical modeling task to the secondary classroom is the lack of a detailed description, from the didactic perspective, that helps and guides the in-service teachers in the implementation of this type of activity and that allows them to identify which are the learning objectives being pursued; if this kind of activities t within the oficial curriculum; the type of tasks that allow these objectives to be achieved; how to carry out their evaluation or what methodology to use. In this article we will address all these aspects from the perspective of a classroom experience, detailing each of the phases involved in the implementati…

Analysis of the resolution processes of threemodeling tasks
2017
[EN] n this paper we present a comparative analysis of the resolution process of three modeling tasks per-formed by secondary education students (13-14 years), designed from three di erent points of view: TheModelling-eliciting Activities, the LEMA project, and the Realistic Mathematical Problems. The purposeof this analysis is to obtain a methodological characterization of them in order to provide to secondaryeducation teachers a proper selection and sequencing of tasks for their implementation in the classroom.
Reconsidering off-task: a comparative study of PDA-mediated activities in four classrooms
2010
Mobile technology is ubiquitous and diverse and permeates many aspects of daily life at home, during leisure activities, and in public spaces. The study presented here is of two sixth grade classes in Michigan, USA and two seventh grade classes in Norway. The students and the teachers in these four classrooms were equipped with mobile technologies (PDAs). We found that the students’ PDA-mediated actions in the classroom were not exclusively used for the tasks and activities set by the teacher, but that the students also used the PDAs on their own initiative – so-called ‘off-task’ activities. We analyze the findings by reconsidering off-task activities from a sociocultural perspective.

There is an active debate regarding whether the ego depletion effect is real. A recent preregistered experiment with the Stroop task as the depleting task and the antisaccade task as the outcome task found a medium-level effect size. In the current research, we conducted a preregistered multilab replication of that experiment. Data from 12 labs across the globe ( N = 1,775) revealed a small and significant ego depletion effect, d = 0.10. After excluding participants who might have responded randomly during the outcome task, the effect size increased to d = 0.16. By adding an informative, unbiased data point to the literature, our findings contribute to clarifying the existence, size, and g…
