Background Nitroglycerine (GTN) is an organic nitrate that has been used for more than 100 years. Despite its widespread clinical use, several aspects of the pharmacology of GTN remain elusive. Reiterative transcription initiation from galP2 promoter of Escherichia coli

The expression of gal operon in Escherichia coli is driven by two promoters, P1 and P2 separated by 5 bp. The transcription initiated from the P2 generates a large amount of abortive transcripts to produce a comparable amount of full-length transcript as P1 in vitro. Canonical azimuthal rotations and flanking residues constrain the orientation of transmembrane helices.

AbstractIn biological membranes the alignment of embedded proteins provides crucial structural information. The transmembrane (TM) parts have well-defined secondary structures, in most cases α-helices and their orientation is given by a tilt angle and an azimuthal rotation angle around the main axis. The tilt angle is readily visualized and has been found to be functionally relevant. However, there exist no general concepts on the corresponding azimuthal rotation. Entropy–enthalpy compensation at the single protein level: pH sensing in the bacterial channel OmpF

The pH sensing mechanism of the OmpF channel operates via ligand modification: increasing acidity induces the replacement of cations with protons in critical binding sites decreasing the channel conductance. Aside from the change in enthalpy associated with the binding, there is also a change in the microscopic arrangements of ligands, receptors and the surrounding solvent. We show that the pH-modulation of the single channel conduction involves small free energy changes because large enthalpic and entropic contributions change in opposite ways, demonstrating an approximate enthalpy–entropy compensation for different salts and concentrations. Comparative trial between the use of amoxicillin and amoxicillin clavulanate in the removal of third molars

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the use of amoxicillin (1g) vs amoxicillin and clavulanate (875/125mg) after extraction of retained third molars for prevention of infectious complications. Study Design: The study involved 546 patients attending for removal a retained third molar and divided in to two groups: Group 1 - amoxicillin and clavunate (875/125mg) group (n=257) and Group 2 - amoxicillin (1g) group (n=289). The syndrome of benign familial neonatal convulsions (BFNC) is characterized by seizures starting within the first days of life and disappearing within weeks to months. Abstract The different intracellular cation-contents present in the right and left ventricle depend on varying Ca2+-concentrations. The effect of extracellular Ca2+-concentrations varied within the physiological range has been studied on an isolated guinea pig heart preparation, showing excellent stable experimental conditions. By increasing the extracellular Ca2+-concentration from 0.45 m m to 3.6 m m the tissue contents of calcium and potassium were increased dependent on [Ca]e whereas that of Na was reduced. Relaxant effects of flavonoids on the mouse isolated stomach: structure-activity relationships.

Flavonoids are a large heterogeneous group of benzo-gamma-pyrone derivatives, which are abundantly present in our diet. In this study we investigated the effects of six flavonoids (apigenin, genistein, quercetin, rutin, naringenin and catechin) on the gastric tone in mouse isolated stomach. The mechanical activity was recorded as changes of intraluminal pressure. All flavonoids tested produced a concentration-dependent relaxation, which was reversible after washout.
