A class of quasi-Newton generalized Steffensen methods on Banach spaces

AbstractWe consider a class of generalized Steffensen iterations procedure for solving nonlinear equations on Banach spaces without any derivative. We establish the convergence under the Kantarovich–Ostrowski's conditions. The majorizing sequence will be a Newton's type sequence, thus the convergence can have better properties. Finally, a numerical comparation with the classical methods is presented.

Study on the parasitoid complex of Prays oleae (Bernard) and parasitism levels in an organic olive orchard in western Sicily (Italy). Prays oleae is a serious pest of the olive tree in the Mediterranean basin. This phytophagous infests fruits (carpophagous generation) and leaves (phyllophagous generation). In cases of high population densities crop losses, caused mainly by fruit drop, may be heavy. In the organic farming the control of Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) is problematic for late ripening peach cultivars. In 2007 and 2008 we tested a protective net, rotenone and spinosad in a biodynamic peach orchard in Castrofilippo (AG). Traps baited with Trimedlure were placed in July and observed weekly. In 2007 there were 3 plots: rotenone, net cover and untreated. In 2008 a thesis with spinosad was added. Since the beginning of August four rotenone and spinosad treatments were done weekly. The paper deals with the reasons that led Emperor Philip the Arab to introduce the gift revocation, due to the ingratitude of the Freedman. According to the Author, the reform depended on the desire to remedy the iniquity that could come from the revocatio in servitutem due to the ingratitude of the Freedman, arranged by the reform of Commodus, known through a Modestinus fragment (Mod. lib. sing. de manum. 25.3.6.1).
