Viral diseases causing the greatest economic losses to the tomato crop. II. The Tomato yellow leaf curl virus — a review

1996

Abstract Tomato yellow leaf curl geminivirus (TYLCV), transmitted by the whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) is one of the most devastating diseases of cultivated tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.). TYLCV causes economic losses up to 100% in tomato crop in many tropical and subtropical regions, and is spreading towards new areas. The increasing economic importance of TYLCV has resulted in the need for accurate detection and identification procedures, stimulating intensive research efforts focused on virus biology, diversity, and epidemiology to develop successful control strategies. Breeding for resistance appears to be the best approach to control this disease, but to date only partial…

East meets west in the 6th millennium: Mesolithic osseous tools and art from Sise on the Latvian seaboard

2021

A collection of 141 bone and antler tools and debitage pieces recovered from the River Užava at the village of Sise constitutes the largest Mesolithic osseous assemblage in western Latvia. Radiocarbon dating of 12 pieces suggests that most of this collection dates from the 6th millennium calBC. We present a general analysis, highlighting typical and unique tool forms, ornamented and sculpted pieces, and assess the corpus in a wider geographical context. Predominant in this rich and diverse collection are heavy duty antler tools: various forms of adzes, axes and hammers as well as sleeves, made either from shed antler or antler of hunted animals. They include two pieces classifiable as T-axe…

Ceremoniał za panowania dwóch pierwszych królów elekcyjnych doby pojagiellońskiej w świetle relacji rodzimych i cudzoziemskich

2020

Zestawienie rodzimych refleksji z wnioskami płynącymi z cudzoziemskich podróży do Polski w drugiej połowie XVI w. wzbogaca naszą wiedzę na temat wizerunku Rzeczypospolitej w czasach jej świetności. Jak zauważył Mirosław Sadowski, okres panowania pierw…

Protective coloration of European vipers throughout the predation sequence

2020

Antipredator adaptations in the form of animal coloration are common and often multifunctional. European vipers (genus Vipera) have a characteristic dorsal zigzag pattern, which has been shown to serve as a warning signal to potential predators. At the same time, it has been suggested to decrease detection risk, and to cause a motion dazzle or flicker-fusion effect during movement. We tested these hypotheses by asking whether (1) the zigzag pattern decreases detection risk and (2) the detection is dependent on the base coloration (grey or brown) or the snake's posture (coiled, basking form or S-shaped, active form). Additionally, (3) we measured the fleeing speed of adders, Vipera berus, an…

The castle's Hermitage of Yecla (Region of Murcia) constituted during the 13th to 16th centuries the first parish of the population, hosting a triptych-shaped altarpiece presided over by a tempera painting on wood of Our Lady of Humility or "Virgo Lactans", dated around 1370 and attributed to the painter Barnaba da Modena, which was the titular image of the mentioned temple under the title of Our Lady of the Incarnation, until at the end of the 18th century it changed ownership for the Conception of Our Lady. Klases kultūras transformācijas Latvijā fotogrāfiju un atmiņu avotos (1964–2004)

2015

To wielki program odnowy Kościoła i narodu. Dotyczyło wszystkich dziedzin życia kościelnego i społecznego…

The Genre System Lens on E-Democracy

2008

Published version of an article published in Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems, 20 (2), 51-82. Also available from the publisher at: http://aisel.aisnet.org/sjis/vol20/iss2/3 E-Democracy aims at enhancing citizen involvement in societal communication and decision making. However, the very ideals of democracy vary while reports of e-democracy in use have often left them undiscussed. Moreover, theoretical works on the potential of information technology (IT) for democratization have often viewed IT as a “black box”, and assumed that technology should create an impact as such. Hence, there is a dearth of research on the interplay between models of e-democracy and actual IT artefacts …
