Intraperitoneal Application of Fibrinogen Gluing in the Rat for Adhesions Prophylaxis

The suitability of fibrinogen gluing for prophylaxis of intraperitoneal adhesions was investigated experimentally. Small bowel slings, traumatized previously, were covered by a layer of fibrinogen 2–3 mm thick to see whether formation of adhesions could be prevented. In the experiments 50 rats of both sexes were observed over 21 days. Following mechanical traumatization of the terminal ileum the visceral peritoneum was coated with fibronogen, whereas animals of the control group did not receive fibrinogen coating.

A New Aromatic Compound from the Stem Bark of Terminalia catappa

A new aromatic compound 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl-1- O-(4-sulfo)-β-D-glucopyranoside (1), in addition to two triterpenoid saponins (chebuloside II, arjunoglucoside II), two triterpenes (arjunolic acid and 3-betulinic acid) and sitosterol-3- O-β-D-glucopyranoside have been isolated from the barks of Terminalia catappa. Their structures have been established on the basis of spectroscopic techniques (1D/2D NMR) and MS. Their cytotoxicity and anti-inflammatory activity, together with the antioxidant capacity of compound 1 were also evaluated.

Bone metabolism in children with asthma treated with nebulized flunisolide: a multicenter italian study

Abstract This multicenter, parallel-group, open-label, randomized study was conducted in prepubertal children with mild asthma to investigate the efficacy and influence on bone and collagen turnover of a daily regimen of flunisolide 1200 μg alone (group A, n=14), flunisolide 600 μg in combination with sodium cromoglycate (SCG) 60 mg (group B, n=15), or SCG 60 mg alone (group C, n=15) for 4 months. Functional consequences of prejunctional receptor activation or blockade in the iris.

The iris is innervated by nerves of the sympathetic, parasympathetic, and sensory nervous systems. The terminal nerve fibres are endowed with prejunctional receptors which modulate neurotransmitter release. Activation or blockade of prejunctional receptors by drugs may have an influence on iris smooth muscle tone. Nonlocal Fractional Dynamics for Different Terminal Densities

We study the effect of confining potentials, generated by different equilibrium (long-time asymptotic or terminal) probability densities, on nonGaussian stochastic processes, described by Lévy–Schrödinger semigroup dynamics. The former densities belong to the family of so-called M-Wright functions of index ν. Using analytical and numerical arguments, we demonstrate that properly tailored confining potentials can generate the Gaussian distribution (which is also a member of M-Wright family at ν = 1/2) at final stages of time evolution. Presynaptic CB1 Receptors Regulate Synaptic Plasticity at Cerebellar Parallel Fiber Synapses

Endocannabinoids are potent regulators of synaptic strength. They are generally thought to modify neurotransmitter release through retrograde activation of presynaptic type 1 cannabinoid receptors (CB1Rs). In the cerebellar cortex, CB1Rs regulate several forms of synaptic plasticity at synapses onto Purkinje cells, including presynaptically expressed short-term plasticity and, somewhat paradoxically, a postsynaptic form of long-term depression (LTD). Here we have generated mice in which CB1Rs were selectively eliminated from cerebellar granule cells, whose axons form parallel fibers. Developing MLS Location-Based Service Pilot System

Development of mobile networks and terminals provides basis for advanced mobile services and applications. One of the new features is support for locating the mobile user by her/his terminal. The Location-Based Services (LBS), utilising this feature, are expected to form an important class of the new services. At the Information Technology Research Institute, University of Jyvaskyla, LBSs have been studied in MultiMeetMobile research project. The project developed an LBS pilot system, called MLS. This paper presents the experiences collected during the development of the LBS pilot and describes the MLS system.

Background: Ensuring adequate end-of-life care for prisoners is a critical issue. In France, data investigating the impact of laws allowing release of seriously ill prisoners are lacking. Aim: To assess the number and characteristics of prisoners requiring palliative care in French prisons. Design: A prospective, national survey collecting data over a 3-month period. Interaction of 68–kDa TAR RNA-binding protein and other cellular proteins with rpion protein-RNA stem-loop

The RNA stem-loop structure of the trans-activating region TAR sequence of human immunodeficiency virus-1 mRNA is the binding site for a number of host cell proteins. A virtually identical set of proteins from HeLa nuclear extracts was found to bind to the predicted RNA hairpin element of prion protein (PrP) mRNA, as demonstrated in UV cross-linking/RNase protection and Northwestern assays. We show that the cellular TAR loop-binding protein, p68, is among those proteins which associate with PrP RNA.
