Investigation of fungicidal activity of 3-piperazine-bis(benzoxaborole) and its boronic acid analogue

3-Piperazine-bis(benzoxaborole) and its bis(phenylboronic acid) analogue were investigated in terms of their fungicidal activity. The study was carried out against five filamentous fungi: Aspergillus terreus, Fusarium dimerum, Fusarium solani, Penicillium ochrochloron and Aspergillus niger. 3-Piperazine-bis(benzoxaborole) revealed higher inhibitory activity towards the examined strains than standard antibiotic (amphotericin B), whereas bis(phenylboronic acid) proved to be inactive. The study unequivocally showed that the presence of the heterocyclic benzoxaborole system is essential for antifungal action of the examined compounds. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

In the Southern Hemisphere, Southern Africa and the south-west Indian Ocean are one of the three preferred regions where interactions between the tropics and midlatitudes develop. This is the South Indian Convergence Zone (SICZ), where northwest-southeast oriented cloud bands form at the synoptic scale (between 3 and 5 days). These bands are mainly found during the austral summer and are commonly referred to as tropical temperate troughs (TTTs). L’objectif visé à travers cette étude est de parvenir à dimensionner de manière optimale les épaisseurs des murs en blocs de terre stabilisée (BTS), pour obtenir un confort thermique satisfaisant à l’intérieur des constructions avec ce matériau. Pour ce faire, une méthode analytique des admittances basée sur le complexe de Fourier est utilisée. Denitrifying microbial communities along a boreal stream with varying land-use

Streams have an important role in regulating nitrogen (N) transportation from terrestrial ecosystems to downstream waters. Here, we examined how catchment land-use affects potential denitrification rates and the function and composition of denitrifier communities in boreal stream sediments, using stable isotope incubations and qPCR and 454-pyrosequencing targeted on nirS, nirK and nosZ genes.
