Improving the Long‐Term Stability of Doped Spiro‐Type Hole‐Transporting Materials in Planar Perovskite Solar Cells
2021
The improvement of the long-term stability of perovskite-based solar cells (PSCs) toward commercialization is closely linked to the development of cutting-edge charge-transporting materials. The progress on the design and the synthesis of new hole-transporting materials (HTMs) is synergistically attaining both top efficiencies and promising stability. Herein, the synthesis and characterization of two doped-HTMs based on electron-rich spiranic cores, namely, 9H-quinolinophenoxazine (spiro-POZ) and 9H-quinolinophenothiazine (spiro-PTZ), are presented. The novel HTMs exhibit excellent solubility, optimal highest occupied molecular orbital energy, and excellent thermal stability with glass tran…
High-Temperature Stable Gold Nanoparticle Catalysts for Application under Severe Conditions: The Role of TiO2 Nanodomains in Structure and Activity
2015
Metal nanoparticles with precisely controlled size are highly attractive for heterogeneous catalysis. However, their poor thermal stability remains a major concern in their application at realistic operating conditions. This paper demonstrates the possibility of synthesizing gold nanoparticles with exceptional thermal stability. This has been achieved by using a simple conventional deposition–precipitation technique. The material employed as catalyst consists of gold supported on a TiO2-impregnated SiO2 bimodal mesoporous support. The resulting material shows gold nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution around 3.0 nm, homogeneously dispersed over the TiO2/SiO2 material. Most interesti…
Safely Dissolvable and Healable Active Packaging Films Based on Alginate and Pectin
2019
Extensive usage of long-lasting petroleum based plastics for short-lived application such as packaging has raised concerns regarding their role in environmental pollution. In this research, we have developed active, healable, and safely dissolvable alginate-pectin based biocomposites that have potential applications in food packaging. The morphological study revealed the rough surface of these biocomposite films. Tensile properties indicated that the fabricated samples have mechanical properties in the range of commercially available packaging films while possessing excellent healing efficiency. Biocomposite films exhibited higher hydrophobicity properties compared to neat alginate films. T…
Impact of hydrothermal ageing on the thermal stability, morphology and viscoelastic performance of PLA/sisal biocomposites
2016
The influence of the combined exposure to water and temperature on the behaviour of polylactide/sisal biocomposites coupled with maleic acid anhydride was assessed through accelerated hydrothermal ageing. The biocomposites were immersed in water at temperatures from 65 to 85 °C, between the glass transition and cold crystallisation of the PLA matrix. The results showed that the most influent factor for water absorption was the percentage of fibres, followed by the presence of coupling agent, whereas the effect of the temperature was not significant. Deep assessment was devoted to biocomposites subjected to hydrothermal ageing at 85 °C, since it represents the extreme degrading condition. Th…
Morphology, interfacial interaction, and thermal degradation of polycarbonate/MCM-41 (nano)composites
2017
ABSTRACTThis article reports on the morphology, interfacial interaction, thermal stability, and thermal degradation kinetics of polycarbonate (PC)/mesoporous silica (MCM-41) composites with various MCM-41 contents, prepared by melt compounding. The composites with low filler loadings (<0.3 wt%) maintained their transparency because of the well dispersed MCM-41 particles, but at higher filler loadings the composites lost their transparency due to the presence of agglomerates. The presence of agglomerates decreased the thermal stability of PC due to the reduced effectiveness of the particles to immobilize the polymer chains, free radicals, and volatile degradation products.
Ultralow thermal conductivity in 1D and 2D imidazolium-based lead halide perovskites
2021
Low-dimensional hybrid organic–inorganic metal halide perovskites are rapidly emerging as a fascinating sub-class of the three-dimensional parent structures, thanks to their appealing charge and thermal transport properties, paired to better chemical and thermal stabilities. Extensive investigations of the thermal behavior in these systems are of paramount relevance to understand their optoelectronic and thermoelectric applications. Herein, we present a complete thermophysical characterization of imidazolium lead iodide, (IMI)PbI3, a 1D pseudo-perovskite with chains of face-sharing octahedra, and histammonium lead iodide, (HIST)PbI4, a 2D layered perovskite with corner-sharing octahedra. Gelation behavior of 5-chloro-8-hydroxyquinoline, an antituberculosis agent, in aqueous alcohol solutions
2012
It was shown that 5-chloro-8-hydroxyquinoline, an antituberculosis agent, gels aqueous alcohol solutions efficiently. Thermal stability and gel-to-sol transition temperature of 1% gel in CD3OD/D2O (2:1) was studied by 1H-NMR. Fibrous structures of four xerogels have been characterized by scanning electron microscope. peerReviewed
Structural characterization of original 3D gallium structures grown by LP‐MOCVD
2004
This study is concerned with the growth and characterization of metallic gallium 3D structures, obtained with a single growth step, by the LP-MOCVD technique on various substrates. Commercial organo-metallic is used as gallium precursor and nitrogen as carrier gas. The growth temperature and the reactor pressure are ranking between 500 and 700 °C, and between 150 and 700 torr, respectively. Depending on the elaboration conditions, different 3D structures are obtained such as droplets, cauliflowers, aggregates or thin stems, with micrometer sizes. The morphology, substrate surface density and thermal stability are studied by optical and scanning electron microscopy. At last, X-ray microanaly…
Antibiotic as Ligand. Coordinating Behavior of the Cephalexin Towards Zn(II) and Cd(II) Ions
1987
The complex formation equilibria of Zn(II) and Cd(II) with cephalexin have been studied through potentiometric titrations. Experimental data were analyzed using the least squares computer program SUPERQUAD. The stability constants were 1g beta ZnCEX+ = 2.40, 1g beta Zn(CEX)(OH) = -4.54, 1g beta CdCEX+ = 2.18, and 1g beta Cd(CEX)(OH) = -5.18 (I = 0.1 M NaNO3), CEX complexes of formulae Zn(CEX)2(3)H2O and Cd(CEX)(OH)H2O have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, conductivity measurements, and electronic and NMR spectra. The thermal behavior of the synthesized compounds were studied by TGA and DTA. We conclude that the metal ion interacts with the amido group of…
Chicken Avidin-related Protein 4/5 Shows Superior Thermal Stability when Compared with Avidin while Retaining High Affinity to Biotin
2003
The protein chicken avidin is a commonly used tool in various applications. The avidin gene belongs to a gene family that also includes seven other members known as the avidin-related genes (AVR). We report here on the extremely high thermal stability and functional characteristics of avidin-related protein AVR4/5, a member of the avidin protein family. The thermal stability characteristics of AVR4/5 were examined using a differential scanning calorimeter, microparticle analysis, and a microplate assay. Its biotin-binding properties were studied using an isothermal calorimeter and IAsys optical biosensor. According to these analyses, in the absence of biotin AVR4/5 is clearly more stable (T…
