Soil Fungal Community in Grazed Inner Mongolian Grassland Adjacent to Coal-Mining Activity.
2021
Coal mining results in reduced soil quality and makes environments less stable. Soil fungi are suitable indicators of soil quality for monitoring purposes. Here, the objective was therefore to investigate the effects of grazing and mining on the composition of the soil fungal community at the periphery of an opencast coal-mine dump in the Shengli mining area, Xilingol League, Inner Mongolia. A total of 2110 fungal operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were identified and subdivided into 81 orders and nine categories, based on trophic modes. The sensitivity of soil factors to coal-mining and grazing was differently. The sensitive factor to mining was soil pH, and that to grazing were soil nitra…
Joint LMMSE equalizer for HSDPA in full-rate space time transmit diversity schemes
2005
This contribution presents a joint linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) equalizer for full-rate space-time transmit diversity multi-code schemes based on W-CDMA, featuring two and four transmit antennas. Specifically, high-rate, high load systems are targeted, in order to analyze the high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) of 3GPP Release 6. We derive an equivalent transmission scheme to equalize the received sufficient statistic in a single stage. To reduce the effects of multipath and multiuser interference, and to provide spatial and frequency diversity at the receiver, an LMMSE equalizer is employed. Computer simulations confirm that the proposed schemes achieve robust performance…
Morphological and genome-wide evidence for natural hybridisation within the genus Stipa (Poaceae)
2020
AbstractHybridisation in the wild between closely related species is a common mechanism of speciation in the plant kingdom and, in particular, in the grass family. Here we explore the potential for natural hybridisation in Stipa (one of the largest genera in Poaceae) between genetically distant species at their distribution edges in Mountains of Central Asia using integrative taxonomy. Our research highlights the applicability of classical morphological and genome reduction approaches in studies on wild plant species. The obtained results revealed a new nothospecies, Stipa × lazkovii, which exhibits intermediate characters to S. krylovii and S. bungeana. A high-density DArTseq assay disclos…
High-resolution solution NMR structure of the Z domain of staphylococcal protein A
1997
Staphylococcal protein A (SpA) is a cell-wall-bound pathogenicity factor from the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. Because of their small size and immunoglobulin (IgG)-binding activities, domains of protein A are targets for protein engineering efforts and for the development of computational approaches for de novo protein folding. The NMR solution structure of an engineered IgG-binding domain of SpA, the Z domain (an analog of the B domain of SpA), has been determined by simulated annealing with restrained molecular dynamics on the basis of 671 conformational constraints. The Z domain contains three well-defined alpha-helices corresponding to polypeptide segments Lys7 to Leu17 (helix 1), G…
Conformational and structural analysis of the equilibrium between single- and double-strand ?-helix of aD,L-alternating oligonorleucine
2004
Alternating sequences of D and L residues in peptides are directly related to the formation of several kinds of regular helical conformations usually called beta-helices. The major feature of these structures is that they can be associated with the transmembrane ion-conducting channel activity in some natural antibacterial peptides. The study of alternating D,L synthetic peptides is critical to understand how factors such as surrounding media, main chain length, type of side chain and terminal groups, among others, can determine the adoption of a specific kind of beta-helix. Early studies pointed out that the peptides Boc-(D-NLeu-L-NLeu)(6)-D-MeNLe-L-Nl-D-Nl-L-Nl-OMe (Boc: tert-butyloxycarb…
In vitro and in silico studies of polycondensed diazine systems as anti-parasitic agents
2012
Abstract Parasitic diseases caused by protozoarian agents are still relevant today more than ever. Recently, we synthesized several polycondensed diazine derivatives by means 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions. A broad selection of these compounds were submitted to in vitro biological screening against Plasmodium falciparum , Leishmania infantum , Trypanosoma brucei , and Trypanosoma cruzi , resulting active at micromolar level. Induced Fit Docking/MM-GBSA studies were performed giving interesting indications about the probable mechanism of action of the most active compounds
Solution structure of aD,L-alternating oligonorleucine as a model of double-stranded antiparallel ?-helix
2002
Conformational characteristics of alternating D,L linear peptides are of particular interest because of their capacity to form transmembrane channels with different transport properties, as some natural antibiotics do. Single- and double-stranded beta-helical structures are common for alternating D,L peptides. The stability of the beta-helix depends on several structural factors, such as the backbone peptide length, type and position of side chains, and nature of terminal groups. The NMR and molecular dynamics solution conformation of a synthetic alternating D,L-oligopeptide with 15 norleucines (XVMe) has been used as a model to get insight in to the conformational features of double-strand…
Death in the substantia nigra: a motor tragedy
2007
It is well known that the death of dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) is the pathological hallmark of Parkinson's disease (PD), the second most common and disabling condition in the expanding elderly population. Nevertheless, the intracellular cascade of events leading to dopamine cell death is still unknown and, consequently, treatment is largely symptomatic rather than preventive. Moreover, the mechanisms whereby nigral dopaminergic neurons may degenerate still remain controversial. Hitherto, several data have shown that the earlier cellular disturbances occurring in dopaminergic neurons include oxidative stress, excitotoxicity, inflammation, mitochondrial dy…
Experimental Study of the Multipactor Effect in a Partially Dielectric-Loaded Rectangular Waveguide
2019
This letter presents the experimental study of the multipactor threshold in a partially dielectric-loaded rectangular waveguide, whose results validate a multipactor model recently developed by the authors, which includes the charge distribution appearing on the dielectric surface during the multipactor discharge. First, the variation of the multipactor RF voltage threshold has been theoretically analyzed in different waveguide configurations: in an empty waveguide, and also in the cases of a one-sided and two-sided dielectric-loaded waveguides. To reach this aim, an in-house Monte Carlo simulation tool has been developed. The Secondary Electron Yield (SEY) of the metallic and dielectric ma…
