In Situ Ammonium Profiling Using Solid-Contact Ion-Selective Electrodes in Eutrophic Lakes

A promising profiling setup for in situ measurements in lakes with potentiometric solid-contact ion-selective electrodes (SC-ISEs) and a data processing method for sensor calibration and drift correction are presented. The profiling setup consists of a logging system, which is equipped with a syringe sampler and sensors for the measurement of standard parameters including temperature, conductivity, oxygen and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). The setup was expanded with SC-ISEs in galvanically separated amplifiers. Abstract A novel polyoxovanadate structural type, with an average nuclearity of V16, formed by a mixture of two different polyoxovananadates: {V15O36(Cl)} and{V17O40(Cl)} has been synthesized and characterized. The title compound, formulated as [Ni(phen)3]2{[V15O36(Cl)]0.5[V17O40(Cl)]0.5} · H2O (1) (phen = 1,10′-phenanthroline), presents two different polyoxovanadate architectures: {V15O36(Cl)} and {V17O40(Cl)}, with the last one representing a new framework type in polyoxovanadate chemistry. Proton and metal binding by cyclen-based highly rigid cryptands.

The basicity properties of the two cryptands L1 and L2, featuring, respectively, a dibenzofuran or a diphenyl ether moiety bridging the 1,7 positions of a 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane macrocycle (cyclen) have been studied by means of potentiometric, UV-vis and fluorescence emission measurements. Both ligands show a high basicity in the first protonation step, the first basicity constant of L1 being too high to be measured in aqueous solution. The crystal structure of {[HL1]L1}(+) shows that the NH(2)(+) group is involved in an intramolecular hydrogen bonding network, which justifies the observed high basicity in solution. Abstract A potentiometric study on the interaction at 25 °C and 0.15 mol dm −3 between large polyazacycloalkanes of the series [3 k ]aneN k and Zn(II) and Cd(II) ions in dmso:H 2 O (80:20 vol./vol.) is reported. The protonation behavior of the free macrocycles and coordination trends are compared with those previously observed in aqueous solution. The main features observed in the mixed solvent are: similar protonation behavior of the free polyamines, greater tendency to form binuclear and protonated complexes and a lower tendency to bear hydrolytic reactions.

A polyazamacrocycle formed from two tris(2-aminoethyl)amine units connected by 1H-pyrazole units shows unique hexanuclear Cu(ii) complexes by combination of two binuclear Cu(ii) cryptand complexes through pyrazolate moieties belonging to both cryptands. The hydrolysis of (C 2 H 5 ) 2 Sn 2+ , (C 2 H 5 ) 3 Sn + and (n-C 3 H 7 ) 3 Sn + has been studied, by potentiometric measurements ([H + ]-glass electrode), in NaNO 3 , NaCl, NaCl/Na 2 SO 4 mixtures and in a synthetic seawater (SSWE), as an ionic medium simulating the major composition of natural seawater, at different ionic strengths (0 ≤ I ≤ 5 mol dm -3 ) and salinities (15 ≤ S ≤ 45), and at t = 25 °C. An aza-terpyridinophane receptor containing the polyamine 4,7,10,13-tetraazahexadecane-1,16-diamine linked through methylene groups to the 5,5″ positions of a terpyridine unit has been prepared and characterized (L). The model polynucleotide poly(dG-dC).poly(dG-dC) (polyGC) was titrated with a strong acid (HCl) in aqueous unbuffered solutions and in the quaternary w/o microemulsion CTAB/n-pentanol/n-hexane/water. The titrations, performed at several concentrations of NaCl in the range 0.005 to 0.600 M, were followed by recording the modifications of the electronic absorption and of the CD spectra (210or = lambdaor =350 nm) upon addition of the acid. In solution, the polynucleotide undergoes two acid-induced transitions, neither of which corresponds to denaturation of the duplex to single coil. Surface complexation modeling of arsenate adsorption by akagenéite (β-FeOOH)-dominant granular ferric hydroxide

Abstract A surface complexation model has been set up for the first time with akaganeite (β-FeOOH), a major compound of granular ferric hydroxide (GFH) used in groundwater purification units worldwide for arsenic and other toxic pollutant removal. Unlike the situation for the α-FeOOH polymorph goethite, there is yet no published surface complexation model to predict competing oxyanion effects. This is due to a linked bulk-surface reactivity by which excess protons released in an unknown amount from tunnel sites hamper quantification of surface protonation by acid titration.
