Phosphine oxide functionalized pyrenes as efficient blue light emitting multifunctional materials for organic light emitting diodes
2015
In a search for blue light emitting multifunctional materials, the electron transport enhancing diphenyl phosphine–oxide (Ph2PO) group has been appended to blue light emitting pyrene derivatives. This design, we observe, leads to highly efficient electron transporting blue-emitters for non-doped organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) with good film formation characteristics. The superior performance is attributed to enhanced charge transport and formation of pyrene excimers assisted by thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) in the device. We report the synthesis and characterization using experimental and computational methods of six such pyrene derivatives. Although three of these…
Epitaxial Thin-Film vs Single Crystal Growth of 2D Hofmann-Type Iron(II) Materials: A Comparative Assessment of their Bi-Stable Spin Crossover Proper…
2020
Integration of the ON-OFF cooperative spin crossover (SCO) properties of FeII coordination polymers as components of electronic and/or spintronic devices is currently an area of great interest for potential applications. This requires the selection and growth of thin films of the appropriate material onto selected substrates. In this context, two new series of cooperative SCO two-dimensional FeII coordination polymers of the Hofmann-type formulated {FeII(Pym)2[MII(CN)4]·xH2O}n and {FeII(Isoq)2[MII(CN)4]}n (Pym = pyrimidine, Isoq = isoquinoline; MII = Ni, Pd, Pt) have been synthesized, characterized, and the corresponding Pt derivatives selected for fabrication of thin films by liquid-phase …
Raman-assisted parametric frequency conversion in a normally dispersive single-mode fiber
1999
International audience; We demonstrate efficient frequency conversion with large frequency shifts of an anti-Stokes signal into a parametrically seeded Stokes idler, which is generated by a highly mismatched three-wave mixing interaction and subsequent Raman amplification in a normally dispersive single-mode fiber. The use of non-phase-matched waves in Raman-assisted three-wave mixing interactions overcomes the strict spectral limitations imposed by phase-matching conditions in parametric frequency-conversion processes.
Electrochemical Tantalum Oxide for Resistive Switching Memories
2017
Redox-based resistive switching memories (ReRAMs) are strongest candidates for the next-generation nonvolatile memories fulfilling the criteria for fast, energy efficient, and scalable green IT. These types of devices can also be used for selector elements, alternative logic circuits and computing, and memristive and neuromorphic operations. ReRAMs are composed of metal/solid electrolyte/metal junctions in which the solid electrolyte is typically a metal oxide or multilayer oxides structures. Here, this study offers an effective and cheap electrochemical approach to fabricate Ta/Ta2O5-based devices by anodizing. This method allows to grow high-quality and dense oxide thin films onto a metal…
Liquid phase exfoliation of antimonene: systematic optimization, characterization and electrocatalytic properties
2019
Antimonene, a novel group 15 two-dimensional material, is attracting great attention due to its outstanding physical and chemical properties. Despite its thermodynamic stability, the pronounced covalent character of the interlayer interactions imposes severe limitations on its exfoliation into mono- and few-layer. Here, we develop a systematic study of liquid phase exfoliation (LPE) with the aim to optimize antimonene production in terms of concentration and dimensional anisotropy, investigating the most relevant experimental factors affecting the exfoliation: pre-processing of pristine antimony, solvent selection based on Hansen solubility parameters and ultrasound conditions. Moreover, ex…
Nano-composite thermochromic thin films and their application in Energy-efficient glazing
2010
A hybrid atmospheric pressure and aerosol-assisted chemical vapour deposition strategy is presented as a facile route for the production of vanadium dioxide nano-composite thin films. The effect of the inclusion of gold nanoparticles and the use of a surfactant molecule, tetraoctylammonium bromide, is discussed. The films were fully characterised using a wide variety of techniques, including scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and UV/vis/NIR spectroscopy. It is shown that micro-structural changes brought about by careful control of film growth conditions, and/or the use of surfactant, lead to an enhancement of thermochromic properties. Gold nano…
Electronic Properties of Thermal Oxides on Ti and Their Influence on Impedance and Photoelectrochemical Behavior of TiO2 Nanotubes
2017
Thermal oxidation of titaniumwas carried out at 350◦C, 450◦C, and 550◦C for 2 h or 12 h.X-rayDiffraction and Raman Spectroscopy suggest that the thermal oxides are scarcely crystallinewhen the annealing temperature is low, while both anatase and rutile are present for high annealing temperature and time. Photoelectrochemical measurements allowed estimation of a bandgap decreasing from 3.35 eV to 3.15 eV with increasing annealing temperature. The impedance spectra confirmed the formation of n-type semiconductors, with an impedance strongly decreasing on going from a reverse bias toward a forward bias regime. TiO2 nanotubes grown by anodizing Ti in NH4F and water containing ethylene glycol so…
Vacuum Deposited Triple-Cation Mixed-Halide Perovskite Solar Cells
2018
Hybrid lead halide perovskites are promising materials for future photovoltaics applications. Their spectral response can be readily tuned by controlling the halide composition, while their stability is strongly dependent on the film morphology and on the type of organic cation used. Mixed cation and mixed halide systems have led to the most efficient and stable perovskite solar cells reported, so far they are prepared exclusively by solution-processing. This might be due to the technical difficulties associated with the vacuum deposition from multiple thermal sources, requiring a high level of control over the deposition rate of each precursor during the film formation. In this report, the…
Growth and Characterization of Anodic Films on Scandium
2013
The anodic behavior of Sc in a slightly alkaline aqueous solution is studied. Electrochemical and capacitance measurements suggest that passive films can be formed on the scandium surface under a high electric field. The formation of these layers occurs at low faradaic efficiency due to oxygen evolution. Photoelectrochemical experiments suggest the formation of a barrier layer with a thickness high enough to hinder external electron photoemission processes and allow the estimation of the bandgap of the films as a function of their formation voltage. The estimated bandgap values were lower than that reported for Sc2O3, suggesting the formation of hydrated phases and/or of a strongly oxygen d…
Impact of Ir modification on the durability of FeNC catalysts under start-up and shutdown cycle conditions
2022
A common problem associated with FeNC catalysts is their poor stability dominated by the carbon oxidation reaction (COR). In this work, the feasibility of stabilizing FeNC catalysts with small quantities of Ir was explored. With iridium being present, instead of COR the oxygen evolution reaction should be favored. The impact on structure and morphology was investigated by 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The catalytic activity and durability for the oxygen reduction reaction was evaluated by rotating ring disc electrode experiments and accelerated stress tests mimicking the start-up and shutdown cycle (SS…
