The aim of the present study was to examine the associations between self-reported childhood difficulties, weight status, and lifestyle behaviors among a representative sample of Norwegian adults. This cross-sectional study included 28,047 adults (>18 years old) living in southern Norway. A self-report questionnaire was used to assess information about the overall quality of the respondents’ childhood retrospectively in addition to current weight status and current lifestyle behaviors. Monitoring programme on cadmium, lead and mercury in fish and seafood from Valencia, Spain: levels and estimated weekly intake.

The study was carried out to determine the current levels of mercury, cadmium, and lead in fish and seafood from the market of Comunitat Valenciana, Spain. Levels of total mercury ranged from 0.02 to 3.15 mg kg⁻¹ w.w. (average = 0.073 mg kg⁻¹ w.w.). Cadmium concentrations ranged from 0.003 to 0.66 mg kg⁻¹ w.w. (average = 0.27 mg kg⁻¹ w.w.) for seafood, and between 0.003 and 0.71 mg kg⁻¹ w.w. (average = 0.01 mg kg⁻¹ w.w.) for marine fish. Concerning lead, concentrations from 0.02 to 0.36 mg kg⁻¹ w.w (average = 0.04 mg kg⁻¹ w.w.) were found in fish, and from 0.02 to 1.02 mg kg⁻¹ w.w. in seafood (average = 0.147 mg kg⁻¹ w.w.). Interferon-Beta Therapy of Multiple Sclerosis Patients Improves the Responsiveness of T Cells for Immune Suppression by Regulatory T Cells

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory autoimmune disease characterized by imbalanced immune regulatory networks, and MS patient-derived T effector cells are inefficiently suppressed through regulatory T cells (Treg), a phenomenon known as Treg resistance. In the current study we investigated T cell function in MS patients before and after interferon-beta therapy. We compared cytokine profile, responsiveness for Treg-mediated suppression ex vivo and evaluated reactivity of T cells in vivo using a humanized mouse model. The T cell branch of the immune system has been extensively studied in the elderly and it is known that the elderly have impaired immune function, mainly due to the chronic antigenic load that ultimately causes shrinkage of the T cell repertoire and filling of the immunologic space with memory T cells. Immunological events are involved in the pathophysiology of chronic active hepatitis as indicated from the accumulation of T lymphocytes at the site of tissue damage. We generated T cell clones from liver biopsies of 3 patients with chronic active hepatitis B and 2 patients with primary biliary cirrhosis. These T cell clones (n = 84) were analyzed by means of T cell receptor (TcR) beta gene rearrangements to determine whether the infiltrate consists of a polyclonal or oligoclonal T cell population. CXCR5 identifies a subset of Vγ9Vδ2 T cells which secrete IL-4 and IL-10 and help B cells for antibody production

Abstract Vγ9Vδ2 T lymphocytes recognize nonpeptidic Ags and mount effector functions in cellular immune responses against microorganisms and tumors, but little is known about their role in Ab-mediated immune responses. We show here that expression of CXCR5 identifies a unique subset of Vγ9Vδ2 T cells which express the costimulatory molecules ICOS and CD40L, secrete IL-2, IL-4, and IL-10 and help B cells for Ab production. These properties portray CXCR5+Vγ9Vδ2 T cells as a distinct memory T cell subset with B cell helper function.

Fifty-five consecutive patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) (n = 57) were treated with a combination of levofolinic acid (I-FA) 100 mg/m2 plus 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) 340 mg/m2 i.v. on day 1-3, cyclophosphamide (CTX) 600 mg/m2 i.v. on day 1 and mitoxantrone (DHAD) 12 mg/m2 i.v. on day 1. DHAD dose was progressively escalated by 2 mg/m2/cycle up to 18 mg/m2 in the absence of dose-limiting toxicities. Granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) was given s.c. in order to prevent neutropenia. DHAD dosage could be increased to 18 mg/m2 in 66 out of 317 cycles of chemotherapy (21%).
