Tumor formation in the neonatal mouse bioassay indicates that the potent carcinogen dibenzo[def,p]chrysene (dibenzo[a,l]pyrene) is activated in vivo …
2004
The hexacyclic aromatic hydrocarbon dibenzo[def,p]chrysene, better known as dibenzo[a,l]pyrene (DBP) in the field of chemical carcinogenesis, is present in the environment as a combustion product of organic matter. This compound is probably the strongest chemical carcinogen ever tested. As ultimate genotoxic metabolites of DBP two electrophilically reactive species are discussed: (i) radical cations generated by one-electron oxidation, and (ii) fjord region dihydrodiol epoxides formed via the trans-11,12-dihydroxy 11,12-dihydro derivative of DBP (11,12-dihydrodiol). In order to delineate the metabolic pathway(s) involved in tumor formation by DBP, newborn Crl:CD-1(ICR)BR mice were intraperi…
Science and gender: researchers in training at the end of Francoism
2017
Identification of the conceptual, procedural and attitudinaldimensions of scientific activity by trainee teachers
2021
Effects of eight weeks of physical training on physical performance and heart rate variability in children
2017
Kraama, Liisa. 2013. Effects of eight weeks physical training on physical performance and heart rate variability in children. University of Jyvaskyla, Department of Biology of Physical Activity. Master’s Thesis in Exercise Physiology. 52 pp. Physical activity and aerobic capacity have decreased among children and adolescents during the last decades. Physically active adults have been shown to have higher heart rate variability (HRV) than less active adults. In adults training-induced changes in physical performance have been shown to be related to increase in HRV, especially in high frequency component (HF), which is a marker of parasympathetic activity. The purpose of this study was to exa…
Tra.C.I.E. project: Training Citizenship and Intercultural Education in Europe
2009
The paper is a report about the project “Training Citizenship and Intercultural Education: methods and resources for adult learning (Tra.C.I.E.)”, that is funded by EC (LLP – Grundtvig, Multilateral projects). It involves organizations of 5 European countries (Italy, Bulgaria, Portugal, Romania, and Spain) and it is aimed at developing a set of curricula for the training of the educators in the field of Intercultural and Citizenship Education. During the first stages of the project, an analysis of the main needs of the target groups in the countries of the consortium was performed. At the same time, through the exchange of best practices a set of training resources was selected. Then, on th…
2012
Organic farming is increasing its share of total world food output and receiving grow-ing support from policymakers concerned with agricultural sustainability issues. This paper studies the characteristics of citrus farmers in the Spanish region of Valencia that affect their probability of becoming organic farmers. A fair understanding of these characteristics may help policymakers improve the design of agricultural policies aimed at supporting organic citrus practices. As regards the methodology, a probit model is estimated with information from a sample of conventional and organic citrus farmers obtained from a survey designed for a larger research project aimed at analysing Valencian cit…
P-T path development derived from shearband boudin microstructure
2016
This work focuses on the development of a regional P-T-path from the Malpica-Lamego Ductile Shear Zone, NW Portugal, based on the microstructures of shearband boudins evolved during progressive simple shear. The combination of microstructural analysis, fluid inclusion studies, crystallographic pre- ffered orientation and fractal geometry analyses, allows to link several stages in the internal evolution of the boudin to regional P-T conditions. The boudinage process is initiated under differential stress after the original layer achieved sufficient viscosity contrast relative to the surrounding matrix. Two main transformations occur simultaneously: i) change in the external shape with contin…
Relaxation for a Class of Control Systems with Unilateral Constraints
2019
We consider a nonlinear control system involving a maximal monotone map and with a priori feedback. We assume that the control constraint multifunction $U(t,x)$ is nonconvex valued and only lsc in the $x \in \mathbb{R}^{N}$ variable. Using the Q-regularization (in the sense of Cesari) of $U(t,\cdot )$, we introduce a relaxed system. We show that this relaxation process is admissible.
A new paradigm for pattern classification: Nearest Border Techniques
2013
Published version of a chapter in the book: AI 2013: Advances in Artificial Intelligence. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-03680-9_44 There are many paradigms for pattern classification. As opposed to these, this paper introduces a paradigm that has not been reported in the literature earlier, which we shall refer to as the Nearest Border (NB) paradigm. The philosophy for developing such a NB strategy is as follows: Given the training data set for each class, we shall first attempt to create borders for each individual class. After that, we advocate that testing is accomplished by assigning the test sample to the class whose border it lies closest to…
