Metallothionein genes in the sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus

2014

Metallothioneins (MTs) constitute a heterogeneous superfamily of cysteine rich proteins, which coordinate divalent (Zn2+, Cd2+) or monovalent (Cu+) metal ions. Several functions have been proposed for these peptides, ranging from toxic metal protection to physiological metal homeostasis, free radical scavenging, oxidative stress protection, antiapoptotic defense, control of the redox status of the cell and also a role during development. Regarding the MT system in vertebrates’ nearest kin, little information is available at present. Recently MTs were also characterized in cephalochordates. Hence in order to shed some light on MT origin and functional differentiation through evolution, we st…

Afterword

2023

It is well known that the disciplines of representation contain many souls, from visual communication to the history of representation, from relief drawing to project drawing, from descriptive geometry to digital transitions; and then there are two great strands, the architectural and the engineering, one more humanistic, the other more technical.

The use of phonemic transcriptions as a teaching method and its effects on language learning outcomes

2009

Lopuksi esi…

Implementation of Computer Assisted Experimental Work in Analytical Chemistry Laboratory Teaching

2019

[EN] Computer-Assisted Experimental Work (CAEW) consists in the incorporation of computer-connected apparatus in the laboratory. This is a new insight into teaching of Classical Analytical Chemistry, wherein the experiments are usually manually conducted. However, it does not represent a complete break with traditional methodology, as the design and goal of the experiment are essentially the same. In this work, we present the implementation of CAEW to a practical included in the Laboratory part of “Analytical Chemistry IV”, taught at the fourth academic year of the Degree in Chemistry: “Potentiometric titration of a mixture of iodure and chlorure with silver”. Three couples of students used…

Extracellular Vesicle microRNAs Contribute to the Osteogenic Inhibition of Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Multiple Myeloma

2020

Osteolytic bone disease is the major complication associated with the progression of multiple myeloma (MM). Recently, extracellular vesicles (EVs) have emerged as mediators of MM-associated bone disease by inhibiting the osteogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs). Here, we investigated a correlation between the EV-mediated osteogenic inhibition and MM vesicle content, focusing on miRNAs. By the use of a MicroRNA Card, we identified a pool of miRNAs, highly expressed in EVs, from MM cell line (MM1.S EVs), expression of which was confirmed in EVs from bone marrow (BM) plasma of patients affected by smoldering myeloma (SMM) and MM. Notably,we found that miR-129-5p, whic…

The LuxR Regulators PcoR and RfiA Co-regulate Antimicrobial Peptide and Alginate Production in

2017

Cyclic lipopeptides (CLPs) are considered as some of the most important secondary metabolites in different plant-associated bacteria, thanks to their antimicrobial, cytotoxic, and surfactant properties. In this study, our aim was to investigate the role of the Quorum Sensing (QS) system, PcoI/PcoR, and the LuxR-type transcriptional regulator RfiA in CLP production in the phytopatogenic bacterium, Pseudomonas corrugata based on our previous work where we reported that the pcoR and rfiA mutants were devoid of the CLPs cormycin and corpeptin production. Due to the close genetic link between the QS system and the RfiA (rfiA is co-transcribed with pcoI), it was difficult to ascertain the specifi…

Słownik Jana Józefa Baranowskiego w świetle jego korespondencji: między teorią a praktyką

2018

This paper looks at the rich, and largely unexplored, correspondence of Jan Józef Baranowski, an insurgent in the November Uprising, a refugee in France and England, an accomplished inventor and the author of a two-volume bilingual dictionary (Anglo-Polish lexicon, 1883; Słownik polsko-angielski, 1884). Baranowski’s letters, primarily those addressed to Leonard Niedźwiedzki, allow one to investigate both his lexicographic conceptions and working methods. As it has turned out, the design of his dictionary was innovative, but Baranowski had experience neither in lexicography nor foreign language teaching. It is thus unsurprising that, despite his efforts to promote the endeavour in the immigr…

Problema fonetyčnoji transkrypciji napivpomjakšenych pryholosych u pidručnykach z ukrajins'koji movy jak inozemnoji

2020

Regulation of type 1 fimbriae synthesis and biofilm formation by the transcriptional regulator LrhA of Escherichia coli

2005

Type 1 fimbriae ofEscherichia colifacilitate attachment to the host mucosa and promote biofilm formation on abiotic surfaces. The transcriptional regulator LrhA, which is known as a repressor of flagellar, motility and chemotaxis genes, regulates biofilm formation and expression of type 1 fimbriae. Whole-genome expression profiling revealed that inactivation oflrhAresults in an increased expression of structural components of type 1 fimbriae. In vitro, LrhA bound to the promoter regions of the twofimrecombinases (FimB and FimE) that catalyse the inversion of thefimApromoter, and to the invertible element itself. CYGD: the Comprehensive Yeast Genome Database.

2005

The comprehensive resource is available under http://mips.gsf.de/genre/proj/yeast/.; International audience; The Comprehensive Yeast Genome Database (CYGD) compiles a comprehensive data resource for information on the cellular functions of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and related species, chosen as the best understood model organism for eukaryotes. The database serves as a common resource generated by a European consortium, going beyond the provision of sequence information and functional annotations on individual genes and proteins. In addition, it provides information on the physical and functional interactions among proteins as well as other genetic elements. These cellular network…
