Insensitivity of Hawking radiation to an invariant Planck-scale cutoff

2009

A disturbing aspect of Hawking's derivation of black hole radiance is the need to invoke extreme conditions for the quantum field that originates the emitted quanta. It is widely argued that the derivation requires the validity of the conventional relativistic field theory to arbitrarily high, trans-Planckian scales. We stress in this note that this is not necessarily the case if the question is presented in a covariant way. We point out that Hawking radiation is immediately robust against an invariant Planck-scale cutoff. This important feature of Hawking radiation is relevant for a quantum gravity theory that preserves, in some way, the Lorentz symmetry.

Limit on Lorentz andCPTviolation of the bound neutron using a free precessionHe3/Xe129comagnetometer

2010

We report on the search for Lorentz-violating sidereal variations of the frequency difference of colocated spin species while the Earth and hence the laboratory reference frame rotates with respect to a relic background field. The comagnetometer used is based on the detection of freely precessing nuclear spins from polarized 3 He and 129 Xe gas samples using SQUIDs as low-noise magnetic flux detectors. As result we can determine the limit for the equatorial component of the background field interacting with the spin of the bound neutron to be b n ⊥ < 3.7 · 10- 32 GeV (95% C.L.).

Invarianzgruppen von Bewegungsgleichungen mit Kommutatorring

1967

An attempt to describe particles by hermitian operators obeying commutator relations leads to a ring of sixteen elements to be represented by matrices of infinite rank. Equations of motion containing elements of the ring are shown to be invariant under charge-conjugation, time-reversal and inhomogeneous Lorentz transformations. Analogs to Pauli- and Gursey-transformations can also be defined and may be used to introduce isospin and helicity.

An exact soliton solution for an averaged dispersion-managed fibre system equation

2001

We consider the nonlinear wave propagation in an averaged dispersion-managed (DM) fibre system. We present the explicit Lax pair with a variable spectral parameter and derive the exact soliton solution using the Backlund transformation. A similar study is also carried out for simultaneous propagation of N nonlinear pulses in the averaged DM fibre system.

Search forCPTand Lorentz Violation inB0−B¯0Oscillations with Dilepton Events

2008

We report results of a search for CPT and Lorentz violation in B{sup 0}-{bar B}{sup 0} oscillations using inclusive dilepton events from 232 million {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} decays recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B Factory at SLAC. We find 2.8{sigma} significance, compatible with no signal, for variations in the complex CPT violation parameter z at the Earth's sidereal frequency and extract values for the quantities {Delta}a{sub {mu}} in the general Lorentz-violating standard-model extension. The spectral powers for variations in z over the frequency range 0.26 year{sup -1} to 2.1 day{sup -1} are also compatible with no signal.

Testing generalized CP symmetries with precision studies at DUNE

2019

We examine the capabilities of the DUNE experiment in probing leptonic CP violation within the framework of theories with generalized CP symmetries characterized by the texture zeros of the corresponding CP transformation matrices. We investigate DUNE's potential to probe the two least known oscillation parameters, the atmospheric mixing angle $\theta_{23}$ and the Dirac CP-phase $\delta_{\rm CP}$. We fix theory-motivated benchmarks for ($ \sin^2\theta_{23}, \delta_{\rm CP} $) and take them as true values in our simulations. Assuming 3.5 years of neutrino running plus 3.5 years in the antineutrino mode, we show that in all cases DUNE can significantly constrain and in certain cases rule out…

Dissipation and Elliptic Flow at Relativistic Energies

2004

We compare elliptic flow evolution from ideal hydrodynamics and covariant parton transport theory, and show that, for conditions expected at RHIC, dissipation significantly reduces elliptic flow even for extreme parton cross sections and/or densities ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{gg}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}dN/d\ensuremath{\eta}(b=0)\ensuremath{\sim}45\text{ }\mathrm{m}\mathrm{b}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}1000$. The difference between transport and hydrodynamic elliptic flow is established rather early during the evolution of the system, but the buildup of elliptic flow is insensitive to the choice of the initial (formation or thermalization) time in both models.

Comparison of different boost transformations for the calculation of form factors in relativistic quantum mechanics

2002

The effect of different boost expressions, pertinent to the instant, front and point forms of relativistic quantum mechanics, is considered for the calculation of the ground-state form factor of a two-body system in simple scalar models. Results with a Galilean boost as well as an explicitly covariant calculation based on the Bethe-Salpeter approach are given for comparison. It is found that the present so-called point-form calculations of form factors strongly deviate from all the other ones. This suggests that the formalism which underlies them requires further elaboration. A proposition in this sense is made.

THE NUCLEON MASS AND PION-NUCLEON SIGMA TERM FROM A CHIRAL ANALYSIS OF Nf = 2 + 1 LATTICE QCD WORLD DATA

2014

Fits of the p4 covariant SU(2) baryon chiral perturbation theory to lattice QCD nucleon mass data from several collaborations for 2 and 2+1 flavors are presented. We consider contributions from explicit Δ(1232) degrees of freedom, finite volume and finite spacing corrections. We emphasize here on our Nf = 2 + 1 study. We obtain low-energy constants of natural size that are compatible with the rather linear pion-mass dependence of the nucleon mass observed in lattice QCD. We report a value of σπN = 41(5)(4) MeV in the 2 flavor case and σπN = 52(3)(8) MeV for 2+1 flavors.

Pion photoproduction off nucleons in covariant chiral perturbation theory

2019

Pion photoproduction off the nucleon close to threshold is studied in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory at O($p^3$) in the extended-on-mass-shell scheme, with the explicit inclusion of the $\Delta(1232)$ resonance using the $\delta$ counting. The theory is compared to the available data of cross sections and polarization observables for all the charge channels. Most of the necessary low energy constants are well known from the analysis of other processes and the comparison with data strongly constrains some of the still unknown ones. The $\Delta(1232)$ contribution is significant in improving the agreement with data, even at the low energies considered.
