Magnetic properties of quasi-2D antiferromagnet {N(n-C5H11)4[MnIIFeIII(ox)3]}∞ below Néel temperature: revisited

2004

Abstract Magnetic measurements of {N(n-C 5 H 11 ) 4 [Mn II Fe III (ox) 3 ]} ∞ were carried out in the 5–300 K temperature range under different applied magnetic fields up to 50 kOe with zero-field-cooled (ZFC) and field-cooled (FC) modes. The FC and ZFC χ ( T ) plots exhibited a significantly large bifurcation below the transition temperature, which was traceable even at 50 kOe of applied magnetic field. The bifurcation temperature was found to be magnetic field dependent for the lower range of magnetic fields, which can be represented by a polynomial of magnetic field. The observed magnetic transition temperature of this compound was in good agreement with the earlier reported results. The…

Donor and acceptor substituted triphenylamines exhibiting bipolar charge-transporting and NLO properties

2017

Donor-acceptor type triphenylamine-based malonodinitriles were synthesized and their thermal, optical, photophysical, electrochemical and nonlinear optical properties were studied. The synthesized compounds formed glasses with the glass transition temperatures ranging from 38 to 107 °C. The ionization potentials of the samples of the compounds established by cyclic voltammetry were found to be in the range of 5.50–5.57 eV, while those estimated by photoelectron emission spectrometry ranged from 5.36 to 5.74 eV. The electron affinity values of the compounds were found to be in the range of −3.41–−3.05 eV. The ambipolar charge-transporting properties were observed for the layers of triphenyla…

Magnetic field dependent thermal conductance in La0.67Ca0.33MnO3

2015

Abstract Using the differential 3 ω technique we measured the low-temperature out-of-plane thermal conductance of heteroepitaxial thin film La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 (LCMO). The magnetic field dependence of the thermal conductance reached values of up to 23%. The effect was observed to be largest in the vicinity of the metal–insulator transition, since the enhancement in thermal conductance is triggered by the colossal magnetoresistance effect increasing the electronic contribution to the thermal conductance. The point of the maximal change was adjusted by post-annealing the samples in an oxygen atmosphere. Samples with a higher transition temperature and lower epitaxial strain displayed a lower mag…

Hysteresis and change of transition temperature in thin films of Fe{[Me2Pyrz]3BH}2, a new sublimable spin-crossover molecule.

2015

Thin films of the spin-crossover (SCO) molecule Fe{[Me(2)Pyrz](3)BH}(2) (Fe-pyrz) were sublimed on Si/SiO2 and quartz substrates, and their properties investigated by X-ray absorption and photo-emission spectroscopies, optical absorption, atomic force microscopy, and superconducting quantum interference device. Contrary to the previously studied Fe(phen)(2)(NCS)(2), the films are not smooth but granular. The thin films qualitatively retain the typical SCO properties of the powder sample (SCO, thermal hysteresis, soft X-ray induced excited spin-state trapping, and light induced excited spin-state trapping) but present intriguing variations even in micrometer-thick films: the transition tempe…

Simulation of Models for the Glass Transition: Is There Progress?

2002

The glass transition of supercooled fluids is a particular challenge for computer simulation, because the (longest) relaxation times increase by about 15 decades upon approaching the transition temperature T g. Brute-force molecular dynamics simulations, as presented here for molten SiO2 and coarse-grained bead-spring models of polymer chains, can yield very useful insight about the first few decades of this slowing down. Hence this allows to access the temperature range around T c of the so-called mode coupling theory, whereas the dynamics around the experimental glass transition is completely out of reach. While methods such as “parallel tempering” improve the situation somewhat, a method…

Charge-carrier density collapse in and epitaxial thin films

2000

We measured the temperature dependence of the linear high field pH of La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 Tc = 232K) and La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 Tc = 345K) thin films in the temperature range from 4 K up to 360 K in magnetic fields up to 20 T. At low temperatures we find a charge-carrier density of 1.3 and 1.4 holes per unit cell for the Ca- and Sr-doped compound, respectively. In this temperature range electron-magnon scattering contributes to the longitudinal resistivity. At the ferromagnetic transition temperature Tc a dramatic drop in the number of charge-carriers n down to 0.6 holes per unit cell, accompanied by an increase in unit cell volume, is observed. Corrections of the Hall data due to a non saturated ma…

Surface magnetic structure investigation of a nanolaminated Mn$_2$GaC thin film using a magnetic field microscope based on Nitrogen-Vacancy centers

2021

This work presents a magnetic field imaging method based on color centers in diamond crystal applied to a thin film of a nanolaminated Mn$_2$GaC MAX phase. Magnetic properties of the surface related structures have been described around the first order transition at 214 K by performing measurements in the temperature range between 200 K and 235 K with the surface features fading out by increasing temperature above the transition temperature. The results presented here demonstrate how Nitrogen-Vacancy center based magnetic microscopy can supplement the traditionally used set of experimental techniques, giving additional information of microscopic scale magnetic field features, and allowing t…

Superconducting tantalum nitride-based normal metal-insulator-superconductor tunnel junctions

2014

We report the development of superconducting tantalum nitride (TaN$_{x} $) normal metal-insulator-superconductor (NIS) tunnel junctions. For the insulating barrier, we used both AlO$_{x}$ and TaO$_{x}$ (Cu-AlO$_{x}$-Al-TaN$_{x} $ and Cu-TaO$_{x}$-TaN$_{x} $), with both devices exhibiting temperature dependent current-voltage characteristics which follow the simple one-particle tunneling model. The superconducting gap follows a BCS type temperature dependence, rendering these devices suitable for sensitive thermometry and bolometry from the superconducting transition temperature $T_{\text{C}}$ of the TaN$_{x} $ film at $\sim 5$ K down to $\sim$ 0.5 K. Numerical simulations were also performe…

Bond strength dependent superionic phase transformation in the solid solution series Cu2ZnGeSe4−xSx

2014

Recently, copper selenides have shown to be promising thermoelectric materials due to their possible superionic character resulting from mobile copper cations. Inspired by this recent development in the class of quaternary copper selenides we have focused on the structure-to-property relationships in the solid solution series Cu2ZnGeSe4−xSx. The material exhibits an insulator-to-metal transition at higher temperatures, with a transition temperature dependent on the sulfur content. However, the lattice parameters show linear thermal expansion at elevated temperatures only and therefore no indication of a structural phase transformation. 63Cu nuclear magnetic resonance shows clear indications…
