A Pragmatic Classification of LSP Texts in Science and Technology1
1995
Abstract: Theoretical approaches towards a classification of texts and empirical analyses of individual text types have been pursued more or less independently of each other. Without reference to a common theoretical framework, the results obtained when analysing individual texts cannot be compared — making it impossible to relate the individual text types to each other, and thus determine the scope of validity of the features which turn out to be characteristic of a group of texts. For this reason, an approach towards a pragmatic text typology is presented which can serve as a framework for the analysis of various LSP text types. In the last part of the paper some implications of this typo…
NMR structure of a non-conjugatable, ADP-ribosylation associated, ubiquitin-like domain from Tetrahymena thermophila polyubiquitin locus.
2019
Abstract Background Ubiquitin-like domains (UbLs), in addition to being post-translationally conjugated to the target through the E1-E2-E3 enzymatic cascade, can be translated as a part of the protein they ought to regulate. As integral UbLs coexist with the rest of the protein, their structural properties can differ from canonical ubiquitin, depending on the protein context and how they interact with it. In this work, we investigate T.th-ubl5, a UbL present in a polyubiquitin locus of Tetrahymena thermophila, which is integral to an ADP-ribosyl transferase protein. Only one other co-occurrence of these two domains within the same protein has been reported. Methods NMR, multiple sequence al…
A contribution towards the historiographical study of translation. A proposal for a translation historiography reader
2013
This article is the English version of “Contribución al estudio historiográfico de la traducción. Propuesta de un manual de lecturas guiadas y sus aplicaciones” by Pilar Ordóñez López & José Antonio Sabio Pinilla. It was not published on the print version of MonTI for reasons of space. The online version of MonTI does not suffer from these limitations, and this is our way of promoting plurilingualism. Following an increase in the publication of anthologies focusing on the diachronic dimension of translation discourse in recent years, it seems timely to consider the historical research that has been carried out in this area in the last decades. The present article argues that there is a need…
Una instantánea movida de la investigación en procesos de traducción
2014
This article offers an overview of some advances in cognitive and psycholinguistic approaches to translation and interpreting process research between 2006 and 2013, in order to provide context to the contributions to this volume. It provides some figures on publications and initiatives and then focuses on competence and expertise; writing; mental load and linguistic complexity; advances in research methods; revision and metacognition; cognition beyond conscious, rational thought; and recontextualized empirical research. The article closes with some notes on the overall tendencies in the area, in the sample of contributions, and in publishing.
(Re-)examining horizons in feminist translation studies: towards a third wave
2009
This article is an English version of "(Re)examinando horizontes en los estudios feministas de traducción: ¿hacia una tercera ola?" by Olga Castro, which was first published in MonTI 1 (2009), pp. 59-86. It was not included on the print version of MonTI for reasons of space. The online version of MonTI does not suffer from these limitations, and this is our way of promoting plurilingualism and internationalism. Feminisms are one of those framework theories that have contributed powerfully to all areas of society, including Translation Studies. The most evident outcome of this interplay is the emergence, in the 1980s, of a Feminist Translation school in Canada, which placed gender in the spo…
Propuesta de didactización de contenidos de historia de la traducción para la formación del traductor
2013
History of Translation should be considered a fundamental issue and one of the founding areas in the formative years of a translator. Within the teaching–learning process, the prospective translator has the opportunity to expand his/her worldview and learn how to handle the tapestry of encyclopedic knowledge which will allow weaving the texts with artistic skills and real craftsmanship. This constitutes the main objective of my proposal. The approach I take here extends beyond the introduction of chronological distribution divided into major historical periods. In each of them, I analyze the historical, sociological and political contexts based on texts and biographies which enable highligh…

2018
The study of archival collections from medieval religious orders has made it possible to locate a second fragment of a medieval Spanish Bible, from the Hieronymian monastery of Santa Maria de la Sisla (Toledo). It is a bifolia from the book of Psalms that belonged to the same codex as the recently identified Ezekiel fragment (=S1). In this article the finding is reported, the liber tradens is described, specifying its meaning and value to ensure monastery rents, the fragments that it transmits are given: part of a bifolia in parchment of the s. Tècniques i mètodes de traducció de Francesc Alegre a La primera guerra púnica (1472)
2017
