A Shape-based Statistical Method to Retrieve 2D TRUS-MR Slice Correspondence for Prostate Biopsy
2012
International audience; This paper presents a method based on shape-context and statistical measures to match interventional 2D Trans Rectal Ultrasound (TRUS) slice during prostate biopsy to a 2D Magnetic Resonance (MR) slice of a pre-acquired prostate volume. Accurate biopsy tissue sampling requires translation of the MR slice information on the TRUS guided biopsy slice. However, this translation or fusion requires the knowledge of the spatial position of the TRUS slice and this is only possible with the use of an electro-magnetic (EM) tracker attached to the TRUS probe. Since, the use of EM tracker is not common in clinical practice and 3D TRUS is not used during biopsy, we propose to per…
Evaluation and Self-Evaluation in Simultaneous Translation: Assessments Methods
2012
Abstract The nature of evaluation and self-evaluation in simultaneous interpretation is based on the close connection between the main text (the version proposed by the speaker) and the interpreter's version. Between these two elements a number of variables emerge, that can damage the efficiency and the accuracy of simultaneous interpretation. The intention of our study is to propose a set of scientific methods and tools in order to offer to the interpreter the possibility of a self-assessment and the benefit of an appropriate evaluation of his work. In order to achieve these goals we used several methods, including experiments, case studies, questionnaires, evaluation scales. Research subj…

Translating Legal Texts. When language meets law.
2012
The image of translation as a process of mere linguistic transposition with the sole purpose of preserving the meaning of the original message, began to be challenged at the beginning of the second half of the 20th century. With an increasing number of scholars raising doubts about the methodologies and theoretical approaches which have traditionally characterized this field of study, the 1980s and 1990s witnessed the emancipation of translation activity together with the recognition of the rights of translator. Signs of this new approach have been recognized even in the specialized field of legal communication that, notwithstanding its own peculiarities, is among the specialized languages …
The Translation of Chinese Medical Terms into English. Linguistic Considerations on the Language of TCM
2009
The growing diffusion of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) in the Western world on the one hand, and the major role of English as the language of scientific communication and international exchange on the other, have led to the need for accuracy and standardization in the English terminology of Chinese medical concepts. The complexity of Chinese medical language, not only due to the innumerable quantity of ideograms1, but above all to their correct interpretation and to the philosophical foundations which TCM is based upon, has raised several debates among linguists, translators and physicians. One of the main issues concerns the approach to be adopted in the translation of Chinese terms i…
Inflammatory response elements, glycan, and proteome profiles as salivary biomarkers for the early diagnosis of OSCC
2021

2020
Because of the dynamic history of Silesia and the related heterogeneity of its population, the problem of national identity in this region was and still is a very sensitive issue. Based on Szczepan Twardoch’s novels Morfina and Drach, the article’s author reconstructs the selected literary identity construction scenarios in the multinational region of Upper Silesia, thus attempting to identify the factors depending on the relevant historical context that affect the development of the sense of national and cultural identity, such as the political climate, individual benefits and interests, continuation of family traditions or the will to dissociate oneself from the past and ancestors. Furthe…
Itālijas Republikas Konstitūcijas tulkojuma angļu valodā analīze un izmantotās tulkošanas stratēģijas
2019
Irish-Italian Studies-New Perspectives on Cultural Mobility and Permeability

The legacy of the past is intersecting with the present. Traditions are questioned and future outcomes are thrown into doubt. Furthermore, physical and social mo…
