This paper analyses current trends in the terminography field and translators’ needs regarding terminology resources. In this context, the Trandix tool is presented as a novel software application that pursues efficiency in terminological searches conducted by translators. This tool is based on Tarp’s Function Theory of Lexicography (2008a) and Spohr’s proposal concerning electronic multifunctional dictionaries (2009). Retrospection in interpreting and translation: explaining the process?

Retrospection is one of the few research methods equally suitable for studying the processes involved in both translation and interpreting. At the first workshop on research methods in process-oriented research (Graz 2009), we presented the results of a pilot study of retrospection as a research method, published as Englund Dimitrova & Tiselius (2009). The study involved data from two groups (15 years of professional experience vs. no professional experience), each with 3+3 subjects (interpreter subjects vs. translator subjects, all with Swedish as their L1). La traducción de textos no-contemporáneos, ‘diacrónicos’, se puede plantear desde la lealtad romántica al original hasta la absoluta domesticación. En primer lugar se pasa revista a los escasos estudios que se han ocupado de la recepción de Aretino en la literatura española. Tras ello, se analizan otras posibles vías de penetración de la obra de Aretino en España, como por ejemplo el contenido de los prólogos de algu- nas de las traducciones al castellano y al catalán hechas entre 1547 y 2000, o bien la selec- ción de textos traducidos. En tercer y último lugar, se estudia la calidad de todas las versiones localizadas. Learning the structure of HMM's through grammatical inference techniques

A technique is described in which all the components of a hidden Markov model are learnt from training speech data. The structure or topology of the model (i.e. the number of states and the actual transitions) is obtained by means of an error-correcting grammatical inference algorithm (ECGI). This structure is then reduced by using an appropriate state pruning criterion. The statistical parameters that are associated with the obtained topology are estimated from the same training data by means of the standard Baum-Welch algorithm. Experimental results showing the applicability of this technique to speech recognition are presented. >

A sequence of amyloid precursor protein (APP) cleavages culminates in the sequential release of the APP intracellular domain (AICD) and the amyloid beta peptide (Abeta) and/or p3 fragment. One of the environmental factors favouring the accumulation of AICD appears to be a rise in intracellular pH. Here we further identified the metabolism and subcellular localization of artificially expressed constructs under such conditions. We also co-examined the mechanistic lead up to the AICD accumulation and explored possible significances for its increased expression. espanolThis paper explores the most significant challenges of translating the memory of the Holocaust, focusing on the difficulties of transferring a survivor’s testimonial account to a different linguistic and cultural system. Because the concentration camp experience is inherently multicultural, and survivors have chosen to pen their ordeal in several languages, translation epitomizes a discipline that intertwines directly with the construction of universal collective memory. Consequently, translating Holocaust memoirs poses challenging questions on hermeneutics and deontology.
