Acoustical properties of air-saturated porous material with periodically distributed dead-end pores
2015
International audience; A theoretical and numerical study of the sound propagation in air-saturated porous media with straight main pores bearing lateral cavities (dead-ends) is presented. The lateral cavities are located at " nodes " periodically spaced along each main pore. The effect of periodicity in the distribution of the lateral cavities is studied, and the low frequency limit valid for the closely spaced dead-ends is considered separately. It is shown that the absorption coefficient and transmission loss are influenced by the viscous and thermal losses in the main pores as well as their perforation rate. The presence of long or short dead-ends significantly alters the acoustical pro…
Nanovector formation by functionalization of TRAIL ligand on single-walled carbon nanotube: Experimental and theoretical evidences
2015
Équipe 104 : Nanomatériaux; International audience; The synthesis and the characterization of a novel nanovector based on oxidized single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) functionalized with tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) via noncovalent 1-pyrenebutanoic acid N-hydrosuccinimid ester (PSE) is described. Experimental noncovalent functionalized SWCNT by PSE are compared to full DFT theoretical predictions. For this, several experimental techniques are gathered to prove the well functionalization of oxidized SWCNT by pi-pi stacking such as micro Raman and XPS spectroscopy analysis coupled to full-DFT calculations. Scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) …
Acoustic Topological Circuitry in Square and Rectangular Phononic Crystals
2021
International audience; We systematically engineer a series of square and rectangular phononic crystals to create experimental realizations of complex topological phononic circuits. The exotic topological transport observed is wholly reliant upon the underlying structure which must belong to either a square or rectangular lattice system and not to any hexagonal-based structure. The phononic system chosen consists of a periodic array of square steel bars which partitions acoustic waves in water over a broadband range of frequencies (∼0.5MHz). An ultrasonic transducer launches an acoustic pulse which propagates along a domain wall, before encountering a nodal point, from which the acoustic si…
Noise Analysis and Comparison of Phase-and Frequency-Detecting Readout Systems: Application to SAW Delay Line Magnetic Field Sensor
2019
International audience; Transmission surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors are widely used in various fields of application. In order to improve the limit of detection (LOD) of such sensor systems, it is essential to understand and quantify the relevant noise sources. Only then, strategies for noise reduction can be developed. In this paper, low noise readout systems for the application with SAW sensors in an open-loop and a closed-loop configuration are presented and experimentally investigated with regard to their phase noise on the example of a SAW delay line magnetic field sensor. Besides a comprehensive analysis of the phaseand frequency modulated signals, respectively, previously derive…
Ibuprofen degradation using a Co-doped carbon matrix derived from peat as a peroxymonosulphate activator
2021
The wider presence of pharmaceuticals and personal care products in nature is a major cause for concern in society. Among pharmaceuticals, the anti-inflammatory drug ibuprofen has commonly been found in aquatic and soil environments. We produced a Co-doped carbon matrix (Co-P 850) through the carbonization of Co2+ saturated peat and used it as a peroxymonosulphate activator to aid ibuprofen degradation. The properties of Co-P 850 were analysed using field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy filtered transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The characterization results showed that Co/Fe oxides were generated and tightly embedded into the carbon matrix …
Alkylated Aromatic Thioethers with Aggregation‐Induced Emission Properties—Assembly and Photophysics
2019
In this contribution, we present the synthesis and self-assembly of alkylated thioethers with interesting photophysical properties. To this end, the emission, absorption and excitation spectra in organic solvents and as aggregates in water were measured as well as the corresponding photoluminescence quantum yields and lifetimes. The aggregates in aqueous media were visualized and measured using transmission electron microscopy. Besides that, crystal structures of selected compounds allowed a detailed discussion of the structure–property relationship. Furthermore, the mesomorphic behavior was investigated using polarized optical microscopy (POM) as well as differential scanning calorimetry (…
Hippocampal responses to electrical stimulation of the major input pathways are modulated by dentate spikes
2022
Dentate gyrus (DG) is important for pattern separation and spatial memory, and it is thought to gate information flow to the downstream hippocampal subregions. Dentate spikes (DSs) are high-amplitude, fast, positive local-field potential events taking place in the DG during immobility and sleep, and they have been connected to memory consolidation in rodents. DSs are a result of signaling from the entorhinal cortex (EC) to the DG, and they suppress firing of pyramidal cells in the CA3 and CA1. To study the effects of DSs to signaling in the hippocampal tri-synaptic loop, we electrically stimulated the afferent fibers of the DG, CA3, and CA1 in adult male Sprague–Dawley rats at different del…
Energy efficient optimisation for large-scale multiple-antenna system with WPT
2018
In this study, an energy-efficient optimisation scheme for a large-scale multiple-antenna system with wireless power transfer (WPT) is presented. In the considered system, the user is charged by a base station with a large number of antennas via downlink WPT and then utilises the received power to carry out uplink data transmission. Novel antenna selection, time allocation and power allocation schemes are presented to optimise the energy efficiency of the overall system. In addition, the authors also consider channel state information cannot be perfectly obtained when designing the resource allocation schemes. The non-linear fractional programming-based algorithm is utilised to address the …
