Bottle microresonator with actively stabilized evanescent coupling

2011

The evanescent coupling of light between a whispering-gallery-mode bottle microresonator and a sub-wavelength-diameter coupling fiber is actively stabilized by means of a Pound-Drever-Hall technique. We demonstrate the stabilization of a critically coupled resonator with a control bandwidth of 0.1 Hz, yielding a residual transmission of (9 \pm 3) \times 10^-3 for more than an hour. Simultaneously, the frequency of the resonator mode is actively stabilized.

A novel traffic splitting policy for performance improvement in wireless mesh networks

2009

Wireless mesh networks are expected to play an important role in the next-generation wireless communication systems as it can provide wide coverage and scalable broadband Internet access services. However, as more traffic is injected into the network it may lead to throughput degradation, packet loss and longer transmission delay. In this paper, we argue that network performance can be improved by cross-layer design over multiple layers and load balancing based on service types. Correspondingly, a novel traffic splitting policy which can potentially utilize diverse paths for transmitting traffic flows of different service types from the same router has been proposed and investigated. Such a…

Data from: Temporal dynamics of Puumala hantavirus infection in cyclic populations of bank voles

2017

Understanding the dynamics of zoonotic pathogens in their reservoir host populations is a prerequisite for predicting and preventing human disease epidemics. The human infection risk of Puumala hantavirus (PUUV) is highest in northern Europe, where populations of the rodent host (bank vole, Myodes glareolus) undergo cyclic fluctuations. We conducted a 7-year capture-mark-recapture study to monitor seasonal and multiannual patterns of the PUUV infection rate in bank vole populations exhibiting a 3-year density cycle. Infected bank voles were most abundant in mid-winter months during years of increasing or peak host density. Prevalence of PUUV infection in bank voles exhibited a regular, seas…

Religion as space of enunciation

2014

The principle of communication, which has been present since the origins of religion, can also be seen as its “vanishing point” in the artistic sense: the necessity of relaying, broadcasting, spreading the divine word is such that it is almost as if religion only really exists insofar as it is transmitted, exposed, expressed in some way to a receiver or audience. While this subject has received increased academic interest within the field of communication over recent years, this paper aims to depict certain possible lines of analysis and certain epistemological challenges which are encountered when studying religion. More specifically, it will approach the catholic Church from a socio-semio…

Wireless ATM : handover issues

1998

Basic aspects of cellular systems and the ATM transmission technology are introduced. Wireless ATM is presented as a combination of radio ATM and mobile ATM. Radio ATM is a wireless extension of an ATM connection while mobile ATM contains the necessary extensions to ATM to support mobility. Because the current ATM technology does not support mobility, handover becomes one of the most important research issues for wireless ATM. Wireless ATM handover requirements are thus analysed. A handover solution relying on two inter-related handover protocols is presented and evaluated. Future research is needed to compare this solution with options presented by earlier research and possibly combine the…

In situ transmission electron microscopy study of electron beam-induced transformations in colloidal cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals

2017

An increasing number of studies have recently reported the rapid degradation of hybrid and all-inorganic lead halide perovskite nanocrystals under electron beam irradiation in the transmission electron microscope, with the formation of nanometer size, high contrast particles. The nature of these nanoparticles and the involved transformations in the perovskite nanocrystals are still a matter of debate. Herein, we have studied the effects of high energy (80/200 keV) electron irradiation on colloidal cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr3) nanocrystals with different shapes and sizes, especially 3 nm thick nanosheets, a morphology that facilitated the analysis of the various ongoing processes. Our resul…

Phylogeny, epidemiology and microhabitat preferences of lungworms (Pseudaliidae) in cetaceans from teh Western Mediterranean

2023

Free-Standing Mono layer Two-Dimensional Supramolecular Organic Framework with Good Internal Order

2015

Utilizing dynamic self-assembly and self-sorting to obtain large-area, molecularly precise monolayered structures represents a promising approach toward two-dimensional supramolecular organic frameworks (2D SOF) or 2D supramolecular polymers. So far, related approaches suffer from small domain sizes, fragility and weak long-range internal order. Here we report on the self-assembly of a host-guest enhanced donor-acceptor interaction, consisting of a tris(methoxynaphthyl)-substituted truxene spacer, and a naphthalene diimide substituted with N-methyl viologenyl moieties as donor and acceptor monomers, respectively, in combination with cucurbit[8]uril as host monomer toward monolayers of an un…

Controlled UV-C light-induced fusion of thiol-passivated gold nanoparticles.

2011

Thiol-passivated gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) of a relatively small size, either decorated with chromophoric groups, such as a phthalimide (Au@PH) and benzophenone (Au@BP), or capped with octadecanethiol (Au@ODCN) have been synthesized and characterized by NMR and UV-vis spectroscopy as well as transmission electron microscopy (TEM). These NPs were irradiated in chloroform at different UV-wavelengths using either a nanosecond laser (266 and 355 nm, ca. 12 mJ/pulse, 10 ns pulse) or conventional lamps (300 nmλ400 nm and ca. 240 nmλ280 nm) and the new AuNPs were characterized by X-ray and UV-vis spectroscopy, as well as by TEM. Laser irradiation at 355 nm led to NP aggregation and precipitation,…
