NZB mice develop an autoimmune disease of unknown etiology. Since the detection of immunoregulatory T-cells it has been speculated that disbalances of these cells may be important in the course of the NZB disease. By utilization of monoclonal antibody defining immunoregulatory Lyt subsets and a FACS IV system we investigated whether differences in the number and/or marker densities of given subsets exist between NZB and the normal reference strain BALB/c. Newborn animals and animals up to 60 weeks of age were tested. The present experiments were designed to extend previous work showing that acute intermittent (-)nicotine treatment upregulates the level of fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF2) mRNA in several rat brain regions, by the use of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) agonist ABT-594 with preferential selectivity for the alpha4beta2 nAChR subtype. ABT594 treatment led to a well-defined temporal and regional upregulation of FGF-2 mRNA. A double labelling analysis showed that the up-regulation of FGF-2 mRNA involves both neuronal and non-neuronal cells. Mothers' and fathers' personality and parenting: the mediating role of sense of competence.

This prospective longitudinal study addressed 3 key questions regarding the processes of parenting in a large community sample of mothers (n = 589) and fathers (n = 518). First, the collective impact of parental Big Five personality dimensions on overreactive and warm parenting, assessed 6 years later by adolescents, was examined. Second, mediation of these associations by sense of competence in the parenting role was addressed. Third, it was explored to what extent associations were similar for mothers and fathers. We present a study of the polarization of European agriculture at NUTS2 regional level. The analysis of selected indicators focuses on spatial and dynamic features of distributions. We make use of the non parametric technique of stochastic kernel which allows to explore the features of a whole distribution and to point out the clustering of statistical units.

Legionella pneumophila and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are common colonizers of water environments, particularly dental unit waterlines. The aim of this study was to assess whether the technical, functional and structural characteristics of dental units can influence the presence and the levels of opportunistic pathogens. Overall, 42 water samples were collected from dental units in a teaching hospital in Palermo, Italy, including 21 samples from the 21 taps supplied by the municipal water distribution system and 21 samples from oral rinsing cups at 21 dental units. Controlling the location of acid sites in zeolites can have a great effect on catalysis. In this work we face the objective of directing the location of Al into the 10R channels of ZSM-5 by taking advantage of the structural preference of B to occupy certain positions at the channel intersections, as suggested by theoretical calculations. The synthesis of B-Al-ZSM-5 zeolites with variable Si/Al and Si/B ratios, followed by B removal in a postsynthesis treatment, produces ZSM-5 samples enriched in Al occupying positions at 10R channels. AbstractLet LF be the lattice of all subgroups of the group $$SF(\omega )$$SF(ω) of all finitary permutations of the set of natural numbers. We consider subgroups of $$SF(\omega )$$SF(ω) of the form $$C\cap SF(\omega )$$C∩SF(ω), where C is a compact subgroup of the group of all permutations. In particular, we study their distribution among elements of LF. We measure this using natural relations of orthogonality and almost containedness. We also study complexity of the corresponding families of compact subgroups of $$S(\omega )$$S(ω).
