Dogs have been under strong artificial selection as a consequence of their relationship with man. Differences between breeds are evident that could be reflected in seminal characteristics. The present study was to evaluate differences in sperm head morphometry between seven well-defined breeds of dog: the British Bulldog, Chihuahua, German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, Spanish Mastiff, Staffordshire Terrier, and Valencian Rat Hunting dog. [1] We explored the influence of biomass burning in Amazonia and northeastern Latin America on N, C, P, S, K, Ca, Mg, Al, Mn, and Zn cycles of an Andean montane forest in south Ecuador exposed to the Amazon basin between May 1998 and April 2003. We assessed the response of the element budget of three microcatchments (8–13 ha) to the variations in atmospheric deposition between the intensive burning season and outside the burning season in Amazonia. There were significantly elevated H, N, and Mn depositions during biomass burning. Carbazole (1a) and 4-methoxycarbazole (1b) can be regioselectively functionalized by reaction with triethyl orthoformate. Whereas the reaction of 1a with the ortho ester furnishes the amide acetal 2, the new carbazole derivatives 4–10 are formed, depending on the reaction conditions, in the electrophilic substitution of 1b. The products of this reaction sequence provide a contribution to studies on the mechanism of the transformation of 1b to tris-carbazolylmethane 5. Compound 5 represents a new, three-bladed propeller in the triheteroarylmethane series.

Abstract Study aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate if young female skiers meet their energy and macronutrient requirements, and how energy availability (EA) and macronutrient intake affects their performance during an intensive training camp. Material and methods: 19 female cross-country skiers (age 16.7 ± 0.7) filled in 48-hour food and training logs during a 5-day training camp.
